Histological animal studies evaluating thermal effects on bone necrosis were selected via electronic and hand searches in English and German language journals until 1 November 2019. The outcome measures were temperature-exposure intervals and laser settings effecting bone damage. Furthermore, investigated parameters were the bone-to-implant contact ratios (BIC) and infrabony pockets around dental implants after thermal treatment. For quality assessment of studies, the CAMARADES study quality checklist was applied.
A total of 455 animals in 25 animal studies were included for data extraction after screening of 45 titles from 957 selected titles of the MEDLINE (PubMed), The Cochrane Library, Embase and Web of Science search. The threshold values for bone necrosis ranged between 47 °C and 55 °C for 1 min. A threshold value for cryoinsult and laser treatment has not yet been defined. However, temperatures in the vicinity of 3.5 °C produce a histologically proven effect on the bone and in the surrounding tissue. At 50 °C for 1 min, BIC values significantly decreased and infrabony pockets increased. Bone quality had an influence on the outcome, as cancellous bone suffered higher bone damage from thermal treatment compared to cortical bone.

In 236 surgically-resected SIACs, we counted TB (single cells or clusters ≤4 tumor cells) and PDC (clusters ≥5 tumor cells) at the peritumoral-invasive front (p) and in the intratumoral area (i) independently to classify as grade-1 (≤4), grade-2 (5-9), or grade-3 (≥10). Consequently, grades-2 and -3 were considered high-grade. High-pTB, -iTB, -pPDC, and -iPDC were observed in 174 (73.7%), 129 (54.7%), 118 (50.0%), and 85 (36.0%) cases, respectively. High-TB/PDCs were more frequently observed in tumors with high-grade, higher T- and N-categories and stage grouping, and perineural or lymphovascular invasion. Patients with high-TB/PDC had a shorter survival than those with low-TB/PDC. In a multivariate analysis, high-pTB, nonintestinal type, high N-category, retroperitoneal seeding, and microsatellite-stable were worse independent-prognostic predictors. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that patients with high-pTB showed worse survival (median 42.5 months) than those with low-pTB (133.7 months; p = 0.007) in the lower stage (stages I-II) group. High-TB/PDC, both in peritumoral and intratumoral localizations, were associated with aggressive behaviors in SIACs. The incidence and prevalence of NTM infections are rising globally, especially in developed countries with declining incidence rates of M. tuberculosis infection. Mycobacterium avium, a slow-growing mycobacterium, is associated with Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections that can cause chronic pulmonary disease, disseminated disease, as well as lymphadenitis. M. abscessus infections are considered one of the most antibiotic-resistant mycobacteria and are associated with pulmonary disease, especially cystic fibrosis, as well as contaminated traumatic skin wounds, postsurgical soft tissue infections, and healthcare-associated infections (HAI). Clinical manifestations of diseases depend on the interaction of the host's immune response and the specific mycobacterial species. The average F of the whole PRE population (328,706 animals) has decreased from 8.45% to 7.51% in the least 20 years. The Fij was estimated for the whole PRE population, resulting in a database of 58,772,533 records containing one record for each Fij that each animal receives from a certain common ancestor (CA). A total of 10,244 CAs contributed to the Fij with an average of 5370 descendants, with each descendant having an average of 170 CAs. Over the generations, the number of CAs has increased, while the proportion of Fij by each one has decreased. In addition, the contributions of the more influential ancestors have changed. The increased census, the limited use of artificial insemination and our increased knowledge about inbreeding depression and the animals' breeding values allow breeders to select horses more for their functionality and conformation than for their pedigree reputation, which is the cause of all these changes.
