African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious and deadly viral disease affecting swine of all ages. ASF was first reported in Vietnam in February 2019, and it is now considered endemic in Vietnam. In this study, 122 ASF-positive samples collected from domestic pigs in 28 different provinces of northern, central, and southern Vietnam during outbreaks in 2019-2021 were genetically characterized. The findings confirmed that all ASF virus (ASFV) strains circulating in Vietnam belonged to p72 genotype II, p54 genotype II, CD2v serogroup 8, and CVR gene variant type I. However, further analysis based on the tandem repeat sequences located between I73R and I329L genes revealed that there were three different variants of ASFV, IGR I, II, and III, circulating in the domestic pig population in Vietnam. The IGR II variants were the most prevalent (117/122 strains) and were detected in pigs in all of the provinces tested, followed by IGR III (4/122 strains) and IGR I (1/122 strains). This study confirms for the first time the presence of IGR III variants in Vietnam.
We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis (TSA) to answer whether early closure of defunctioning ileostomy may be suitable after low anterior resection.
MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched, up to October 2021, for RCTs comparing early closure (EC ≤ 30days) and delayed closure (DC ≥ 60days) of defunctioning ileostomy. The risk ratio (RR) with 95% CI was calculated for dichotomous variables and the mean difference (MD) with 95% CI for continuous variables. The GRADE methodology was implemented for assessing Quality of Evidence (QoE). TSA was implemented to address the risk of random error associated with sparse data and/or multiple testing.
Seven RCTs were included for quantitative synthesis. 599 patients were allocated to either EC (n = 306) or DC (n = 293). EC was associated with a higher rate of wound complications compared to DC (RR 2.56; 95% CI 1.33 to 4.93; P = 0.005; I
= 0%, QoE High), a lower incidence of postoperative small bowel obstruction (RR 0.46; 95% CI 0.24 to 0.89; P = 0.02; I
= 0%, QoE moderate), and a lower rate of stoma-related complications (RR 0.26; 95% CI 0.16 to 0.42; P < 0.00001; I
= 0%, QoE moderate). The rate of minor low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) (RR 1.13; 95% CI 0.55 to 2.33; P = 0.74; I
= 0%, QoE low) and major LARS (RR 0.80; 95% CI 0.59 to 1.09; P = 0.16; I
= 0%, QoE low) did not differ between the two groups. TSA demonstrated inconclusive evidence with insufficient sample sizes to detect the observed effects.
EC may confer some advantages compared with a DC. However, TSA advocated a cautious interpretation of the results.

To evaluate the remineralization of artificial interproximal enamel caries (AIEC) adjacent to alkasite, high viscous glass ionomer cement (HVGIC), and resin composite in class II restorations.
Human enamel specimens were randomly assigned to 3 groups (n = 22) Filtek™ Z350, EQUIA Forte
, and Cention N
. The baseline hardness was determined using a Knoop microhardness assay. AIEC was formed in the specimens, and they were placed in contact with the proximal restorative materials then subjected to a 7-day pH cycling. Microhardness was determined post-artificial caries formation and post-pH cycling. The differences in the percentage of surface hardness recovery (%SHR) between the groups were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The Dunn's test was used for between-group comparisons (p < 0.05).Specimen surface morphology was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the calcium, phosphorus, and fluoride contents were analyzed by energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). ANOVA with the post hojacent surfaces, especially in high-risk caries patients.
After cryopreservation, the Ca
content increased, which affected the intracellular ROS content, then participated in the occurrence of programmed cell death in pollen. Programmed cell death (PCD) is one of the reasons for the decline in pollen viability after cryopreservation. However, the role of calcium ions (Ca
) in PCD during pollen cryopreservation has not been revealed in the existing studies. In this study, Paeonia lactiflora 'Fen Yu Nu' pollen was used as the research material for investigating the effects of Ca
changes on PCD indices and reactive oxygen species (ROS) during pollen cryopreservation. The results showed that after cryopreservation, with the decrease of pollen viability, the Ca
content significantly increased. The regulation of Ca
content had a significant effect on PCD indices, which showed that the Ca
carrier A23187 accelerated the decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential level and increased the activity of caspase-3-like and caspase-9-like proteases and the apoptosis ffect, and Ca2+ regulators also had significant effects on the contents of ROS production and clearance-related substances. Ca2+ affected intracellular ROS content by acting on the ROS production and clearance system during the cryopreservation of pollen and is thus involved in the occurrence of PCD.
Neuromuscular training (NMT) is effective at reducing football injuries. The purpose of this study was to document the use of NMT to prevent anterior cruciate ligament injuries and lateral ankle sprains in adult amateur football and to identify barriers for using NMT.
A preseason and in-season online survey was completed by players and coaches of 164 football teams. The survey contained questions concerning injury history, type and frequency of NMT, and barriers when NMT was not used.
A total of 2013 players (40% female) and 180 coaches (10% female) completed the preseason survey, whereas 1253 players and 140 coaches completed the in-season survey. Thirty-four percent (preseason) to 21% (in-season) of players used NMT, but only 8% (preseason) to 5% (in-season) performed adequate NMT (i.e. both balance and plyometric exercises, at least twice per week). In the subpopulation of players with an injury history, 12% (preseason) and 7% (in-season) performed adequate NMT. With respect to the coaches, only 5% (preseason) and 2% (in-season) implemented adequate NMT. Most important barriers for using NMT for both players and coaches were a lack of belief in its effectiveness, a lack of knowledge, the belief that stretching is sufficient, and not feeling the need for it.
Most amateur football teams do not implement essential components of NMT. The results highlight the urgent need for developing strategies to enhance the adequateuse of NMT in amateur football.

II.Clinical evaluation of neurodevelopmental impairments before 6 months of age is needed in congenital heart disease (CHD) to promote early referral to developmental interventions. The objective was to identify the risk of cerebral palsy (CP) and to compare neurodevelopment outcomes in infants with and without CHD. In a longitudinal study, 30 infants with CHD and 15 infants without CHD were assessed at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months of age. Included measures were General Movement Assessment (GMA), Test of Infant Motor Performance (TIMP) and the Bayley Scale of Infant Development, third edition (Bayley-III), selected to identify the risk of CP, document neurodevelopmental impairments and infants' eligibility for early intervention services. Abnormal GMA categories were found in the CHD group where 48% had poor repertoire and 15% were at high risk of CP. At 3 months of age, CHD group had significantly lower TIMP scores compared to infants without CHD [t(41) = 6.57, p = 0.01]. All infants in the study had higher Bayley-III scores at 6 months than at 3 months of age. Infants with CHD had lower gross motor, fine motor and cognitive Bayley-III scores compared to their peers without CHD. Over time infants without CHD outperformed the CHD group in the gross motor skills [F(1,41) = 11.76, p = .001]. Higher prevalence of abnormal GMs, lower TIMP and Bayley-III were found in infants with single ventricle physiology compared to two-ventricle physiology. The risk of CP exists in infants with CHD, and these infants have worse outcomes compared to their peers without CHD. These differences are intensified in the single ventricle population.Clinical Trial Registration National Institute of Health, Unique identifier NCT03104751; Date of registration-April 7, 2017.After the use of thallium as rat poison was banned, the knowledge about the severe and treacherous course of poisonings with this toxic metal has widely been lost. In the present case, the male victim sustained two insidious poisoning attacks in 2017 and 2020 by the perpetrator, his female life partner. In the first poisoning episode, he suffered from increasing heavy pain of the abdomen, stinging pain of both legs, persistent obstipation, hyperesthesia, and, after about 2 weeks, tuft-wise loss of hair as typical symptoms of the thallium poisoning. Within 7 weeks, he was successively examined in six hospitals with a wide variety of diagnostic methods, but a conclusive explanation of the complaints was not found. The possibility of a metal intoxication was then suggested by the perpetrator who privately arranged the analysis of a blood sample with the result of 175 µg/l thallium. Although a criminal poisoning was assumed, the perpetrator was not identified. After the victim left the perpetrator, she subtly executed a second poisoning attack with thallium sulfate (blood level 1230 µg/l after 1 day, urine level 4760 µg/l after 10 days, and hair concentrations 3.26-0.49 from proximal to distal in 9 segments). The perpetrator was sentenced to 10.5 years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm and attempted murder. Because of the behavior of the perpetrator, a Munchausen by proxy syndrome was discussed as a motivation of the first poisoning but was excluded by the psychiatric expert because of a missing antisocial personality disorder.Leishmaniasis affects millions of people worldwide, and available treatments have severe limitations. selleckchem Natural and derivative products are significant sources of innovative therapeutic agents. Naphthoquinones are natural or synthetic chemical compounds with broad biological activity. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the potential anti-Leishmania activity of bioactive compounds derived from naphthoquinones in animal models. Conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines, two blocks of MeSH terms were assembled group I, Leishmania OR Leishmaniasis; group II, Atovaquone OR Lapachol OR Beta lapachone OR Naphthoquinones. The search was performed on PubMed, Web of Science, SCOPUS, EMBASE, and Lilacs databases. Twenty-four articles were retrieved and submitted for quality assessment using the SYRCLE critical appraisal tool. The in vivo anti-Leishmania potential of naphthoquinones was evaluated in visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis using several measurement parameters. Analyzed compounds varied in structure, association with reference drugs, and encapsulation using a drug delivery system. The study design, including treatment protocol, differed between studies. The findings of the studies in this systematic review indicate the anti-Leishmania potential of naphthoquinones in vivo, with different treatment regimens directed against different Leishmania species. The employed drug delivery systems improve the results concerning selectivity, distribution, and required therapeutic dose. The immunomodulatory action was shown to be beneficial to the host, favoring an adequate immune response against infection by Leishmania parasites since it favored Th1 responses. All studies presented a moderate to high risk of bias. These findings suggest that more studies are needed to assess the overall effectiveness and safety of these treatments.
