Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) status influences management decisions in cystic fibrosis (CF) but diagnostic approaches vary. PND-1186 We evaluated the ability of the CFHealthHub (CFHH) criteria, which consist of two major and four minor statements, in diagnosing chronic PA infection among adults with CF.

In this retrospective cross-sectional analysis, we compared the CFHH criteria against the Leeds criteria. Data were collected between 1st January and 31

December 2016 from all adults with CF receiving care at Sheffield, excluding those with lung transplantation (n=7) or on ivacaftor (n=13). The CFHH criteria PA status were cross-tabulated against the Leeds criteria, and clinical outcomes between chronic PA vs non chronic PA for both criteria were compared.

This analysis included 186 adults with CF (90 females, median age 27 years, median baseline FEV

78.5%). The CFHH criteria diagnosed more cases of chronic PA (116/186, 62.4% vs 79/186, 42.5%), and 37/107 cases of non-chronic PA according to the Leeds criteria were deemed chronic PA by the CFHH criteria. The magnitude of difference in %FEV

decline between chronic PA vs non chronic PA was slightly greater for the CFHH criteria (-0.6%, 95% CI -1.8 to 0.6%) compared to the Leeds criteria (-0.2%, 95% CI -1.3 to 1.0%).

The CFHH criteria detected more chronic PA cases yet still retained similar levels of discrimination for health outcomes in comparison to the Leeds criteria. These findings provide preliminary evidence for the validity of the CFHH criteria among adults with CF.

It has been found to be relatively resistant to chlorination and photolysis. Here we investigated the transformation mechanism of diazepam in aqueous solution through UV/chlorine and simulated sunlight/chlorine treatments. The results showed that the UV/chlorine and sunlight/chlorine processes significantly increased the degradation of diazepam in water. These observed degradations can be elucidated by in-situ generation of reactive species including hydroxyl radical (HO), reactive chlorine species (RCS) and ozone (O3) during photolysis of chlorine. In the UV/chlorine treatment, the degradation efficiency of diazepam for HO, chlorine, UV and RCS reaction at 90 min was calculated to be 62.1%, 3.8%, 11.9% and 12.3%, respectively. In the simulated sunlight/chlorine treatment, the calculated degradation of 53.1%, 8.1% and 11.2% was attributed to HO, chlorine and RCS reaction, with negligible loss by O3 reaction and sunlight irradiation. In the UV/chlorine and sunlight/chlorine treatments, a total of 70 transformation products was detected using a high-resolution TripleTOF mass system. Six transformation pathways have been tentatively proposed for the diazepam, which includes hydroxylation, chlorination, hydrolyzation, N-demethylation, loss of phenyl group, benzodiazepine ring rearrangement and contraction. Most of the obtained transformation products were less toxic to aquatic organisms including fish, daphnia and green algae than diazepam itself according to the toxicity prediction tool, and did not cause significant changes in toxicity to luminescent bacteria.Few studies have assessed the cumulative effects of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS1) in relation to children's neurobehavioral problems over time. We assessed the longitudinal associations between ETS exposure at age 5 and behavioral problems at ages 5, 7, and 9 using the Ewha Birth and Growth Cohort, in Seoul, Korea. Children with available urinary cotinine levels at age 5 and one or more behavioral problem scores measured with the Korean Version of Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL2) at age 5, 7, and 9 were included in the study. Those whose mothers smoked during pregnancy were excluded, and a total of 179 children were included in the analysis. A linear mixed-model analysis using a REPEATED statement was conducted to assess whether ETS exposure was associated with the total, internalizing, and externalizing behavioral problem scores of the CBCL. The group with higher levels of cotinine showed continuously higher total and external behavioral problem scores from ages 5 to 9, which was seen after adjusting for preterm birth, father's education level, and television watching time. In addition, the difference in the total and external behavioral problem scores between the higher and lower cotinine groups at age 5 was statistically significant after a Bonferroni correction (p = 0.02 and 0.04, respectively), even though the fixed effect of cotinine level was almost but not statistically significant (p = 0.07 and 0.08, respectively). The results of this longitudinal cohort study provide evidence regarding the negative effects of ETS exposure in early childhood and their behavioral problems over time. This study supports the strengthening of anti-smoking policies used in educational interventions for parents, in order to reduce early ETS exposure in children.This study focuses on the determination of alkali release from wood and straw pellets during combustion. The aim is to expand the knowledge on the K and Na release behaviour and to adopt chemiluminescence-based sensors for online monitoring of alkali detection which can be applied for the prevention of fouling formation in low quality biomass combustion plants. Flame emission spectrometry (FES) was used for optical detection of chemiluminescence spectra of K and Na using optical bandpass filters mounted on an ICCD (Intensified Charge Coupled Device) camera. FES data were verified by additional experiments with a single particle reactor (SPR) coupled with an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Using both techniques, the release profiles of K and Na during a single pellet combustion at 1000 °C were determined and obtained K* and Na* emission intensities directly correlated with the results from the ICP-MS. It was determined that the emission intensity of alkali radicals depends on alkali concentrations in the samples and K and Na radical emission intensities increase with increasing alkali amounts in the samples.
