These results suggest that the synergistic effects of MDMA and ethanol are mediated through dopamine transmission, especially through postsynaptical regulation of D2 -receptor-mediated functions.A rational design for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts is pivotal to the overall efficiency of water electrolysis. Much work has been devoted to understanding cation leaching and surface reconstruction of very active electrocatalysts, but little on intentionally promoting the surface in a controlled fashion. We now report controllable anodic leaching of Cr in CoCr2 O4 by activating the pristine material at high potential, which enables the transformation of inactive spinel CoCr2 O4 into a highly active catalyst. The depletion of Cr and consumption of lattice oxygen facilitate surface defects and oxygen vacancies, exposing Co species to reconstruct into active Co oxyhydroxides differ from CoOOH. A novel mechanism with the evolution of tetrahedrally coordinated surface cation into octahedral configuration via non-concerted proton-electron transfer is proposed. This work shows the importance of controlled anodic potential in modifying the surface chemistry of electrocatalysts.Emerging evidence indicates that enzyme-catalyzed transformation and degradation of soil organic matter at the ecosystem scale is more likely driven by microbial functional gene abundance, rather than short term induction/repression responses. In this paper, we are trying to highlight the potential links between microbial functional gene abundance and soil extracellular enzyme activity. Those links will likely offer a new path for optimizing the model performance of microbial-mediated soil C dynamics from microbial functional gene perspectives.
Little is known about whether adolescents' risk-taking in areas other than sex is associated with the effectiveness of their contraceptive method use, or whether any such associations vary by race and ethnicity.
Data from the 2011, 2013 and 2015 National Youth Risk Behavior Surveys were used to examine nonsexual risk behaviors and contraceptive method choice among 5,971 sexually active females aged 13-18. Risk-taking profiles for White, Black and Hispanic adolescents were identified using latent class analysis. Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate the associations between these risk profiles and use of less- or more-effective contraceptive methods at last sexual intercourse.
Three distinct risk-taking profiles were identified for White and Hispanic adolescents and two for Black adolescents. Compared with their counterparts in the low-risk "abstainer" group, White adolescents in the "high substance use and violence" group were less likely to use condoms alone (relative risk, 0.4) or a pred Hispanic adolescents' use of more-effective contraceptives should target barriers other than risk-proneness. Those suffering from sleep disorders often present with symptoms of discontent with regard to sleep quality, timing and quantity, and these symptoms have an adverse impact on function and quality of life. A minimally invasive technique would be preferable in patients with psychiatric disorders, who tend to be sensitive to environmental change. Accordingly, we evaluated the performance of Zmachine Insight Plus, an ambulatory electroencephalography sleep monitor, in patients with psychiatric disorders. One hundred and three patients undergoing polysomnography were enrolled in this study. Zmachine Insight Plus was performed simultaneously with polysomnography. Total sleep time, sleep efficiency, wake after sleep onset, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, light sleep (stages N1 and N2) and deep sleep (stage N3) were assessed. Total sleep time, sleep efficiency, wake after sleep onset, REM sleep duration and non-REM sleep duration of Zmachine Insight Plus showed a significant correlation with those of polysomnography. Lower sleep efficiency and increased frequency of waking after sleep onset, the arousal index and the apnea-hypopnea index on polysomnography were significantly associated with the difference in sleep parameters between the two methods. Inflammation chemical Among patients with psychiatric disorders who are sensitive to environmental change, Zmachine Insight Plus would be a useful technique to objectively evaluate sleep quality. This study investigated the role of AT1 , AT2 and Mas angiotensinergic receptors within the MeA in autonomic, cardiovascular and baroreflex changes evoked by a 10-day (1 hr daily) repeated restraint stress (RRS) protocol. Analysis of cardiovascular function after the end of the RRS protocol indicated increased values of arterial pressure, without heart rate changes. Arterial pressure increase was not affected by acute MeA treatment after the RRS with either the selective AT1 receptor antagonist losartan, the selective AT2 receptor antagonist PD123319 or the selective Mas receptor antagonist A-779. Analysis of heart rate variability indicated that RRS increased the sympathetic tone to the heart, which was inhibited by MeA treatment with either losartan, PD123319 or A-779. Baroreflex function assessed using the pharmacological approach via intravenous infusion of vasoactive agents revealed a facilitation of tachycardia evoked by blood pressure decrease in chronically stressed animals, which was inhibited by MeA treatment with losartan. Conversely, baroreflex responses during spontaneous fluctuations of blood pressure were impaired by RRS, and this effect was not affected by injection of the angiotensinergic receptor antagonists into the MeA. Altogether, the data reported in the present study suggest an involvement of both angiotensinergic receptors present in the MeA in autonomic imbalance evoked by RRS, as well as an involvement of MeA AT1 receptor in the enhanced baroreflex responses during full range of blood pressure changes. Results also indicate that RRS-evoked increase in arterial pressure and impairment of baroreflex responses during spontaneous variations of arterial pressure are independent of MeA angiotensinergic receptors.
