The self-assembly of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) block copolymers (BCPs) remains a complex and time-consuming endeavor owing to the high kinetic penalties associated with long polymer chain entanglement. In this work, we report a unique strategy of overcoming these kinetic barriers through precision solvent annealing of an UHMW polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) BCP system (M w ∼800 kg/mol) by fast swelling to very high levels of solvent concentration (ϕs). Phase separation on timescales of ∼10 min is demonstrated once a thickness-dependent threshold ϕs value of ∼0.80-0.86 is achieved, resulting in lamellar feature spacings of over 190 nm. The threshold ϕs value was found to be greater for films with higher dry thickness (D 0) values. Tunability of the domain morphology is achieved through controlled variation of both D 0 and ϕs, with the kinetically unstable hexagonal perforated lamellar (HPL) phase observed at ϕs values of ∼0.67 and D 0 values of 59-110 nm. This HPL phase can be controllably indapproach for the reliable and scalable fabrication of sub-wavelength nanostructures via BCP lithography.Monodisperse, micrometer-sized liquid crystalline (LC) shells are prepared by seeded dispersion polymerization. After polymerizing LC monomer mixtures in the presence of non-crosslinked polymer seeds, hollow LC polymer shells with programmable alignment and shape are prepared by removing the seeds. The LC alignment in the LC polymer shells can be easily manipulated by the polymer seeds, as a radial alignment is observed with amorphous poly(phenyl methacrylate) seeds and a bipolar alignment is observed with bipolar LC polymer seeds. After removal of the seeds, the radially aligned samples give radially aligned shells with small dimples. The resulting bipolar LC polymer shells collapse into a biconcave shape. Polarized optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy indicate that the collapse occurs at the defect points in the shell. In the case of a lower crosslink density, LC polymer hollow shells with larger dimples are obtained, resulting in cup-shaped polymer particles. Biconcave LC polymer shells based on other LC mixtures have also been prepared, showing the versatility of the seeded dispersion polymerization method.Electrowetting (EW) response on a dielectric depends on its permittivity value, Young contact angle and voltage amplitude. We present a large change in EW contact angle, from 163° to 80°, on the bilayer dielectric made up of ferroelectric PVDF-HFP with a thin layer of fluoropolymer. The thickness values of both layers were separately optimized for high effective capacitance essential for the large EW response. It reveals that the bilayer with ~ 500 nm thick PVDF-HFP layer and ~ 50 nm thin layer of Teflon results in the maximum value of effective dielectric constant, ε ≈ 8. Besides this gain, dc-voltage EW response exhibits hysteresis mainly due to polarization in the ferroelectric layer such that, hysteretic offset voltage was found to depend on the applied voltage amplitude and thickness of the dielectrics. Finally, bilayer was subjected to ac-voltage EW in silicone oil for ambient temperature ranging from - 25 to 70 °C. The consistent EW response in this ambient without any degradation/delamination of polymer surface confirmed the durability of the bilayer on the transparent ITO electrodes.

This study aimed to investigate the prenatal obstetric approach after feticide and the rate of maternal complications. Material and Methods All feticides of singleton pregnancies carried out at Leipzig University Hospital (n = 164) in the period between 01/2016 and 12/2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Selective feticides of multiple pregnancies were excluded from the study. Target indicators for the prenatal obstetric approach were sonographic accuracy of estimation, method used to induce feticide, time between feticide and delivery, and whether curettage was required. The rate of maternal complications was defined as blood loss of ≥ 500 ml. Results The number of feticides as a percentage of the total number of births during the investigation period was 1.6%. None of the terminations were performed primarily because of a serious rised with longer Δdelivery (p = 0.02). JAK assay The likelihood of requiring curettage increased with increasing loss of blood. The number of maternal complications as a percentage of the total patient population was 10.4%. Only 11% of patients agreed to a postmortem examination. Conclusion Late terminations of pregnancy carried out in accordance with Sec. 218a para. 2 StGB are a reality and must be understood and accepted as a possible consequence of modern prenatal medicine. The complication rate after feticide and the subsequent obstetric procedure was 10% for the above-defined maternal complication. Late terminations and their obstetric management should be carried out in specialized perinatal centers which offer interprofessional expertise.Intravaginal rings (IVRs) are minimally invasive polymeric devices specifically designed to be used for the sustained and prolonged release of various type of drugs such as hormones. One of the benefits of using topical drug delivery systems (e.g., IVRs) is the fact that systemic drug delivery may cause drug resistance due to elevated drug levels. Topical drug delivery also provides higher concentrations of the drug to the target site and has fewer side effects. In addition, when a drug is administered vaginally, the hepatic first-pass effect is avoided, resulting in higher absorption. Contraception and treatments for specific diseases such as endometriosis and hormone deficiencies can be improved by the administration of hormones via an IVR. This article aims to classify and compare various designs of commercially available and non-commercial hormonal IVRs and to analyze their performance. Current challenges affecting the development of IVRs are investigated, and proposed solutions are discussed. A comprehenentional drug administration methods. IVRs could considerably improve women's quality of life all over the world within a short period of time. While roughly 30% of all women experience a spontaneous miscarriage in their lifetime, the incidence of recurrent (habitual) spontaneous miscarriage is 1 - 3% depending on the employed definition. The established risk factors include endocrine, anatomical, infection-related, genetic, haemostasis-related and immunological factors. Diagnosis is made more difficult by the sometimes diverging recommendations of the respective international specialist societies. The present study is therefore intended to provide a comparison of existing international guidelines and recommendations. The guidelines of the ESHRE, ASRM, the DGGG/OEGGG/SGGG and the recommendations of the RCOG were analysed. It was shown that investigation is indicated after 2 clinical pregnancies and the diagnosis should be made using a standardised timetable that includes the most frequent causes of spontaneous miscarriage. The guidelines concur that anatomical malformations, antiphospholipid syndrome and thyroid dysfunction should be excluded. Moreover, the guidelines recommend carrying out pre-conception chromosomal analysis of both partners (or of the aborted material). Other risk factors have not been included in the recommendations by all specialist societies, on the one hand because of a lack of diagnostic criteria (luteal phase insufficiency) and on the other hand because of the different age of the guidelines (chronic endometritis). In addition, various economic and consensus aspects in producing the guidelines influence the individual recommendations. An understanding of the underlying decision-making process should lead in practice to the best individual diagnosis and resulting treatment being offered to each couple.Aim The purpose of this official guideline published and coordinated by the German Society for Psychosomatic Gynecology and Obstetrics [Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychosomatische Frauenheilkunde und Geburtshilfe (DGPFG)] is to provide a consensus-based overview of psychosomatically oriented diagnostic procedures and treatments for fertility disorders by evaluating the relevant literature. Method This S2k guideline was developed using a structured consensus process which included representative members of various professions; the guideline was commissioned by the DGPFG and is based on the 2014 version of the guideline. Recommendations The guideline provides recommendations on psychosomatically oriented diagnostic procedures and treatments for fertility disorders.New potentially biologically active sulfonamide derivatives of pentacyclic lupane-type triterpenoids, the sulfonamide group of which was bonded to C-17 of the triterpene skeleton through an amidoethane spacer, were synthesized via conjugation of 2-aminoethanesulfonamides to betulinic and betulonic acids in the presence of Mukaiyama reagent (2-bromo-1-methylpyridinium iodide). The main protease (3CLpro) of SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 is a promising target for discovery of novel antiviral agents. In this paper, new possible inhibitors of 3CLpro with high predicted binding affinity were detected through multistep computer-aided molecular design and bioisosteric replacements. For discovery of prospective 3CLpro binders several virtual ligand libraries were created and combined docking was performed. Moreover, the molecular dynamics simulation was applied for evaluation of protein-ligand complexes stability. Besides, important molecular properties and ADMET pharmacokinetic profiles of possible 3CLpro inhibitors were assessed by in silico prediction.Named Data Networking (NDN) is a data-driven networking model that proposes to fetch data using names instead of source addresses. This new architecture is considered attractive for the Internet of Things (IoT) due to its salient features, such as naming, caching, and stateful forwarding, which allow it to support the major requirements of IoT environments natively. Nevertheless, some NDN mechanisms, such as forwarding, need to be optimized to accommodate the constraints of IoT devices and networks. This paper presents LAFS, a Learning-based Adaptive Forwarding Strategy for NDN-based IoT networks. LAFS enhances network performances while alleviating the use of its resources. The proposed strategy is based on a learning process that provides the necessary knowledge allowing network nodes to collaborate smartly and offer a lightweight and adaptive forwarding scheme, best suited for IoT environments. LAFS is implemented in ndnSIM and compared with state-of-the-art NDN forwarding schemes. As the obtained results demonstrate, LAFS outperforms the benchmarked solutions in terms of content retrieval time, request satisfactory rate, and energy consumption.A primary challenge in understanding disease biology from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) arises from the inability to directly implicate causal genes from association data. Integration of multiple-omics data sources potentially provides important functional links between associated variants and candidate genes. Machine-learning is well-positioned to take advantage of a variety of such data and provide a solution for the prioritization of disease genes. Yet, classical positive-negative classifiers impose strong limitations on the gene prioritization procedure, such as a lack of reliable non-causal genes for training. Here, we developed a novel gene prioritization tool-Gene Prioritizer (GPrior). It is an ensemble of five positive-unlabeled bagging classifiers (Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, Decision Tree, Adaptive Boosting), that treats all genes of unknown relevance as an unlabeled set. GPrior selects an optimal composition of algorithms to tune the model for each specific phenotype.
