Postoperatively, 170 (65%) patients underwent echocardiography. In the liraglutide group, more patients had a normal left ventricular systolic function (68%, 59 patients) compared to placebo (53%, 44 patients), difference = 15%, 95%CI = 0-30, p = 0.049. Assessment of the right ventricle revealed no difference in function. CONCLUSIONS Patients receiving short-term preoperative liraglutide treatment better maintained normal myocardial function after cardiac surgery. This study warrants further evaluation of the potential beneficial effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists in cardiac surgery patients. The implication of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidative systems in response to Ni was evaluated in the halophyte Mesembryanthemum crystallinum in comparison with the metal tolerant glycophyte species Brassica juncea. Seedlings of both species were hydroponically subjected during 21 days to 0, 25, 50, and 100 µM NiCl2. Growth parameters showed that the halophyte M. crystallinum was more tolerant to Ni than B. juncea. Malondialdehyde (MDA) content increased to a higher extent in B. juncea than in M. crystallinum. Antioxidant enzymesactivities were differently affected by Ni in both species. Estrogen modulator Nickel increased shoot superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activities in B. juncea, whereas these activities were reduced in M. crystallinum when exposed to metal stress. The root SOD, APX and guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) activities increased upon Ni treatments for both species. The content of non-enzymatic antioxidative molecules such as glutathione, non-protein thiols and proline increased in Ni-treated plants, except for GSH content in the shoot of B. juncea. Based on the oxidative balance, our findings confirm the higher tolerance of the halophyte M. crystallinum to Ni-induced oxidative stress comparatively to B. juncea. We suggest that M. crystallinum is able to overcome the produced ROS using the non-enzymatic system, while Ni-induced oxidative stress was more acute in B. juncea, leading this species to mainly use the enzymatic system to protect against reactive oxygen species.Development of hybrid scaffolds and their formation methods occupies an important place in tissue engineering. In this paper, a novel method of 3D hybrid scaffold formation is presented as well as an explanation of the differences in scaffold properties, which were a consequence of different crosslinking mechanisms. Scaffolds were formed from 3D freeze-dried gelatin and electrospun poly(lactide-co-glicolide) (PLGA) fibers in a ratio of 11 w/w. In order to enhance osteoblast proliferation, the fibers were coated with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HAp) using sonochemical processing. All scaffolds were crosslinked using an EDC/NHS solution. The scaffolds' morphology was imaged using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The chemical composition of the scaffolds was analyzed using several methods. Water absorption and mass loss investigations proved a higher crosslinking degree of the hybrid scaffolds than a pure gelatin scaffold, caused by additional interactions between gelatin, PLGA, and HAp. Additionally, mechanical properties of the 3D hybrid scaffolds were higher than traditional hydrogels. In vitro studies revealed that fibroblasts and osteoblasts proliferated and migrated well on the 3D hybrid scaffolds, and also penetrated their structure during the seven days of the experiment.BACKGROUND Lobectomy plus lymph node dissection is the standard treatment of early-stage lung cancer, but the low lymph node metastasis rate with ground-glass opacity (GGO) makes surgeons not perform lymphadenectomy. This study aimed to re-evaluate the lymph node metastasis rate of GGO to help make a clinical judgment. METHODS We performed this retrospective study to enroll patients who received lung cancer surgery from 2011 to 2016. Patient characteristics collected included tumor size, solid part size and lymph node metastasis rate. These patients were categorized into pure GGO and part solid GGO groups to undergo analysis. RESULTS Lymph node metastasis rates were 0%, 3.8% and 6.9% in order of the pure GGO group, the GGO predominant group and the solid predominant group. In the lobectomy patients, the solid predominant group still showed to have the highest lymph node metastasis rate and recurrence rate (8.3% and 10.1%). CONCLUSION It is unnecessary to perform lymphadenectomy for patients with pure GGO in view of the 0% lymph node metastasis rate. The higher lymph node metastasis rate in the patients with the solid predominant group, 6.9%, suggested that surgeons should choose a rational lymphadenectomy method according to their GGO property and clinical judgment.Urban parks provide multiple non-material benefits to human health and well-being; measuring these "intangible" benefits mainly co-produced by the spatial interactivity between dwellers and urban parks is vital for urban green space management. This paper introduced "vitality" to measure the intangible benefits of urban parks and constructed a straightforward and spatially explicit approach to assess the park vitality based on visiting intensity and recreational satisfaction rate. Freely available data of check-in comments on parks, points-of-interest (POIs), and other multi-source data from Beijing were used to assess the urban park vitality and explore the factors influencing it from the perspectives of recreational service supply, demand, and spatial linking characteristics. We found that the urban park vitalities decreased along the urban-rural gradient. The presence of water and facility density in the parks have significant positive impacts on park vitality, and high population density nearby was a positive factor. Moreover, the external higher levels of the POI-based urban function mix and density, as well as developed public transportation, were strongly associated with greater park vitality. Our research proposed a feasible and effective method to assess the park vitality, and the findings from this study have significant implications for optimizing the spatial configuration of urban parks. The resident admit notes (RANs) in electronic medical records (EMRs) is first-hand information to study the patient's condition. Medical entity extraction of RANs is an important task to get disease information for medical decision-making. For Chinese electronic medical records, each medical entity contains not only word information but also rich character information. Effective combination of words and characters is very important for medical entity extraction. We propose a medical entity recognition model based on a character and word attention-enhanced (CWAE) neural network for Chinese RANs. In our model, word embeddings and character-based embeddings are obtained through character-enhanced word embedding (CWE) model and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. Then attention mechanism combines the character-based embeddings and word embeddings together, which significantly improves the expression ability of words. The new word embeddings obtained by the attention mechanism are taken as the input to bidirectional long short-term memory (BI-LSTM) and conditional random field (CRF) to extract entities.
