The hearing loss is most often of conductive nature, in some cases the involvement of the bony part of the cochlea results in mixed hearing loss. Aims The aim of the analysis was to answer the question whether a surgery on one of the ears affects the state of the other ear in the course of otosclerosis. Methods The analysis included 140 patients hospitalized and operated on between 2010 - 2016. Only patients who had not had a surgical operation within the middle ear due to otosclerosis prior to the study were included in it. An audiological assessment was performed with the use of pure tone threshold audiometry taking into account. Results In the group of patients with no Carhart's notch, the mean threshold of bone conduction was statistically lower than before the procedure for the frequencies of 500, 1000 Hz and statistically equal for the frequency of 2000 Hz. The same analysis in the group of patients with Carhart's notch present in the pre-surgical tonal audiogram of the non-operated ear showed a statistically significant lower value of the post-surgical threshold bone conduction value. Conclusion It was confirmed the possibility of improving the hearing of the non-operated ear after the stapedotomy of the opposite ear, in the author's own studies by an average of 5 dB in the low-frequency range.<b>Introduction</b> The aim of the study was to prove that a combination of visual surgical planning (VSP) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an optimal technique in fibular free flap reconstructions after complex tumor resections in the head and neck region and that it leads to better functional and aesthetic outcomes. <br><b>Material and method</b> Six patients (3 females, 3 males) with head and neck tumors were included in the study. The region concerned midface in 2 cases and mandible in 4 patients. On the basis of computed tomography of the head, fibular free flap (FFF) reconstruction was planned with the VSP technique. The 3D-printed models were prepared. At the beginning of the operation and a few minutes after the reconstruction, an xCAT CBCT by XORAN was performed. Minor corrections of the angles of the reconstructed bony parts were made where needed. The time of the operation was assessed for each case. Functional and cosmetic results were evaluated in a 1-year follow-up. <br><b>Results</b> The mean time of operation was 6 hours and 48 minutes, which was approximately 1hour and 40 minutes less than standard reconstructive surgery. Functional recovery was achieved in all patients. Aesthetic result was unsatisfactory for 2 patients due to insufficient soft tissue masses of FFF. <br><b>Conclusions</b> The authors claim that intraoperative CBCT imaging, regardless of the cost, improves the accuracy of aesthetic outcome of reconstructive surgeries based on VSP, especially in the region of the midface and the mandible. Further studies on a higher number of subjects are required.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare, benign tumor; however, it shows local aggression and leads to profuse nosebleeds. &lt;br/&gt;Aim The aim of the study is to present 20 years of experience in endoscopic treatment of this tumor. &lt;br/&gt;Material and methods The material covers 71 patients treated in the years 1985-2019 at the Department of Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology in Poznań. In these patients, either the classic external approach, or the double approach - external with the use of endoscopes, or only the endoscopic approach was used. In the entire population, external surgeries were performed in 37 patients, double access in 8 and endoscopic access in 26 patients. &lt;br/&gt;Results Complete resection of the tumor was achieved in 51 patients (72%). Despite numerous studies, the etiology of this disease remains unknown. However, the enlargement of the inner ear's endolymphatic spaces, referred to as endolymphatic hydrops, is considered the underlying condition. Thanks to recent advances in magnetic resonance (MR) technology, it is now possible to obtain in vivo imaging of endolymphatic hydrops in patients presenting with Ménière's disease symptoms. Visualization of the inner ear fluid compartments is achieved after gadolinium contrast is administered into the tympanic cavity or via the intravenous route. Evaluation of endolymphatic hydrops is possible as the contrast agent selectively penetrates the perilymph, and endolymph is visualized as contrast defects. The currently used radiological hydrops grading systems include qualitative, semi-quantitative, and volumetric scales. The methods are subject to ongoing modifications to increase their sensitivity and specificity.
