Most studies (n = 16) reported on wound assessment or monitoring. Only one study reported on data capturing. Two studies on the use of computer applications reported low inter-observer variability in wound measurement (inter-rater reliability >0.99, and inter-observer variability 15.9% respectively). Hand-held commercial devices demonstrated high accuracy (relative error of 2.1%-6.8%). #link# Use of spectroscopy or hyperspectral imaging in prediction of wound healing has a sensitivity and specificity of 80% to 90% and 74%to 86%, respectively. Majority of the commercially available wound assessment systems have not been reviewed in the literature on measurement accuracy. link2 In conclusion, most imaging systems are superior to traditional wound assessment. Wound imaging systems should be used as adjuncts in DFU monitoring.Carbohydrazide could be applied as fuels for fuel cells to avoid the toxicity of hydrazine. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibit an improved electrocatalytic activity toward carbohydrazide oxidation reaction than other carbon materials like carbon black or multi-layer graphene, however, the role of defects and functional groups of CNTs for the reaction is not clear. In this study, the electrocatalytic properties of CNTs toward the carbohydrazide oxidation reaction is investigated, which demonstrate that the content of carboxyl groups is crucial to the catalytic activity. The one with higher carboxyl groups exhibits an improved catalytic activity toward carbohydrazide oxidation reaction. Furthermore, density functional theory calculation reveals that the carboxyl groups could increase the adsorption of carbohydrazide molecules on CNTs, which benefits their catalytic activity. To facilitate the understanding of pregabalin and optimize its clinical usage in Hong Kong, an expert panel (11 psychiatrists, one family physician and one anesthesiologist) experienced in treating anxiety and somatic symptoms was invited to establish a set of consensus statements based on several discussion areas. A non-systematic literature search for relevant articles was conducted. The panelists addressed the discussion areas by sharing their clinical experience and available literature in a couple of meetings. At the last meeting, consensus statements derived from the proceedings were discussed and finalized. A total of 11 statements were ultimately accepted by panel voting based on their practicability of recommendation in Hong Kong. These statements are aimed to act as a practical reference for local clinicians when they consider prescribing pregabalin in different clinical situations.
Cervical angina is an underrecognized type of noncardiac chest pain and its mechanism of pain remains obscure. The objective of the current study was to investigate the clinical outcomes of different surgical strategies for patients with cervical angina and to analyze the potential pathogenesis of Luschka's joint osteophyte.
From February 2013 to March 2018, a prospective study on cervical angina was performed in our hospital. All patients who were diagnosed with both noncardiac chest pain and cervical pathology were identified. During admission, they consulted with a cardiologist and underwent strict cardiac workups to exclude true angina pectoris. The included 41 patients were randomly divided into two groups according to different surgical strategies of whether or not to remove Luschka's joint osteophyte during anterior cervical decompression surgery the osteophyte resection (OR group) and the nonresection (NR group).
The OR group consisted of 21 patients (8 men and 13 women) with a mean age of 54.7 p, there were 10 patients (50.0%) with excellent results, 9 patients with fair results (45.0%), and 1 patient with poor results (5.0%). Notably, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups (χ
= 6.265, P = 0.044). The average follow-up was 31 months (24-52 months).
Anterior cervical decompression surgery with resection of Luschka's joint osteophyte can effectively reduce cervical angina symptom and improve the patient's quality of life. In addition to nerve root compression, Luschka's joint osteophyte may be another pathogenic factor in cervical angina.

Existing evidence shows that wasting and stunting share similar causal pathways, but evidence on correlates of WaSt remains limited. Research on correlates of WaSt is needed to inform prevention strategies. We investigated the factors associated with WaSt in children 6-59 months in Karamoja Region, Uganda. We examined data for 33,054 children aged 6-59 months using June 2015 to July 2018 Food Security and Nutrition Assessment in Karamoja. We defined WaSt as being concurrently wasted (weight-for-height z-scores less then -2.0) and stunted (height-for-age z-score less then -2.0). We conducted multivariate mixed-effect logistic regression to assess factors associated with WaSt. Statistical significance was set at p less then 0.05. In multivariate analysis, being male (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.79; 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.60-2.00]), aged 12-23 months (aOR = 2.25; 95% CI [1.85-2.74]), 36-47 months (aOR = 0.65; 95% CI [0.50-0.84]) and 48-59 months (aOR = 0.71; 95% CI [0.54-0.93]) were associated with WaSt. In addition, acute respiratory infection (aOR = 1.30; 95% CI [1.15-1.48]), diarrhoea (aOR = 1.25; 95% CI [1.06-1.48]) and malaria/fever (aOR = 0.83; 95% CI [0.73-0.96]) episodes were associated with WaSt. WaSt was significantly associated with maternal underweight (body mass index less then 18.5 kg/m2 ), short stature (height less then 160 cm), low mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC less then 23 cm) and having ≥4 live-births. WaSt was prevalent in households without livestock (aOR = 1.30; 95% CI [1.13-1.59]). link3 Preventing the occurrence of WaSt through pragmatic and joint approaches are recommended. Future prospective studies on risk factors of WaSt to inform effective prevention strategies are recommended.Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Recent studies have stated that Notch signalling is highly activated in cancer stem cells (CSCs) and plays an important role in the development and progression of CRC. Like normal colorectal epithelium, CRCs are organized hierarchically and include populations of CSCs. In order to enhance the biological activity of α-mangostin, we formulated α-mangostin-encapsulated PLGA nanoparticles (Mang-NPs) and examined the molecular mechanisms by which Mang-NPs inhibit CRC cell viability, colony formation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and induce apoptosis. Mang-NPs inhibited cell viability, colony formation and induced apoptosis. Tolinapant cost -NPs also inhibited EMT by up-regulating E-cadherin and inhibiting N-cadherin and transcription factors Snail, Slug and Zeb1. As dysregulated signalling through the Notch receptors promotes oncogenesis, we measured the effects of Mang-NPs on Notch pathway. Mang-NPs inhibited Notch signalling by suppressing the expression of Notch receptors (Notch1 and Notch2), their ligands (Jagged 1 and DLL4), γ-secretase complex protein (Nicastrin) and downstream target (Hes-1). Notch receptor signalling regulates cell fate determination in stem cell population. Finally, Mang-NPs inhibited the self-renewal capacity of CSCs, stem cell markers (CD133, CD44, Musashi and LGR5) and pluripotency maintaining factors (Oct4, Sox-2, KLF-4, c-Myc and Nanog). Overall, our data suggest that Mang-NPs can inhibit CRC growth, EMT and CSCs' population by suppressing Notch pathway and its target. Therefore, Mang-NPs can be used for the treatment and prevention of CRC.The pulsed laser fragmentation in liquid (PLFL) process is a promising technique for the synthesis of carbon-based functional materials. In particular, there has been considerable attention on graphene quantum dots (GQDs) derived from multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by the PLFL process, owing to the low cost and rapid processing time involved. However, a fundamental deep understanding of the formation of GQDs from MWCNTs by PLFL has still not been achieved despite the high demand. In this work, a mechanism for the formation of GQDs from MWCNTs by the PLFL process is reported, through the combination of experimental and theoretical studies. Both the experimental and computational results demonstrate that the formation of GQDs strongly depends on the pulse laser energy. Both methods demonstrate that the critical energy point, where a plasma plume is generated on the surface of the MWCNTs, should be precisely maintained to produce GQDs; otherwise, an amorphous carbon structure is favorably formed from the scattered carbons.Circadian rhythms, which are ubiquitous and adaptive, occur across all species, from microbes to humans, in which they organize and modify behavior and physiology. timeless (tim) is a canonical clock gene. The core composition of the Drosophila melanogaster endogenous circadian clock has been extensively investigated; however, in lepidopteran insects, including Bombyx mori, the mechanism is complicated and little is known regarding the participation of tim in the negative feedback loop responsible for behavioral activities. To arrive at a comprehensive understanding of the role of tim in the B. mori endogenous circadian clock, we exploited the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 gene editing system. We attempted to elucidate the functions of tim in the circadian clock of B. mori using Bmtim mutants. The knockouts affected two circadian behavioral activities adult emergence and embryo hatching rhythms. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction results confirmed that tim-knockouts induced relative reductions in the expression levels, and thereby the oscillation amplitudes, of Bmper and Bmclk messenger RNAs during both the photophase and scotophase. Additionally, the daily rhythmic expression of Bmdbt was upregulated in the photophase and downregulated in the scotophase in a tim-knockout. Our study reveals that tim is integral to the B. mori circadian clock and may be involved in regulating eclosion and hatching rhythms.
