ing to the development of ATL diseases. These findings have important clinical implications as patients with acute ATL are rarely cured. Our study suggests an alternative strategy to the current "wait and see approach" in that early screening of HTLV-I-infected individuals for germinal epimutation of FHIT and early treatment may offer significant clinical benefits.
Microbiome interactions are important determinants for ecosystem functioning, stability, and health. In previous studies, it was often observed that bacteria suppress potentially pathogenic fungal species that are part of the same plant microbiota; however, the underlying microbe-microbe interplay remains mostly elusive. Here, we explored antagonistic interactions of the fungus Fusarium graminearum and bacterium Streptomyces hygroscopicus at the molecular level. Both are ubiquitous members of the healthy wheat microbiota; under dysbiosis, the fungus causes devastating diseases.
In co-cultures, we found that Streptomyces alters the fungal acetylome leading to substantial induction of fungal autophagy. The bacterium secrets rapamycin to inactivate the target of rapamycin (TOR), which subsequently promotes the degradation of the fungal histone acetyltransferase Gcn5 through the 26S proteasome. Gcn5 negatively regulates fungal autophagy by acetylating the autophagy-related protein Atg8 at the lysine site K13 meostasis in healthy plant microbiomes. The autophagic process provides novel possibilities and targets to biologically control pathogens. Video abstract.
Mucosal sites are hypothesized to play a role in the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Since serum anti-peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD)4 antibodies, including a subset that cross-react with PAD3 (PAD3/4), are specific for RA and associate with severe disease, we sought to examine whether anti-PAD4 and anti-PAD3/4 antibodies were present in the lung and oral mucosa of subjects with RA and "at-risk" for RA.
We included 37 RA, 25 healthy control, and 46 subjects "at-risk" for RA based on familial RA and/or serum anti-citrullinated protein antibody (ACPA) positivity. Paired serum, sputum, and saliva were evaluated for anti-PAD4 and anti-PAD3/4 using immunoprecipitation and ACPA using ELISA. Immunoglobulins (Ig) were purified from representative samples, and their effect on citrullination of histone H3 by recombinant human PAD4 was measured by anti-citH3 immunoblot.
Anti-PAD4 antibodies were detected in the serum of 6/37 (16.2%), sputum of 3/37 (8.1%), and saliva of 3/33 (9.1%) RA subjects and in thole in the RA lung.
Serial cerebral angiographic imaging is necessary to ensure cerebral aneurysm occlusion after flow diverter placement. Time-of-flight (TOF)-magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is used for this purpose due to its lack of radiation, contrast media and complications. The comparative diagnostic yield of TOF-MRA for different flow diverters has not been previously analyzed.
To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of TOF-MRA in cerebral aneurysms treated wdivertersith different flow diverters.
Flow-diverted patients whose cerebral follow-up MRA and digital subtraction angiograms (DSA) were obtained within 6weeks were retrospectively identified. The DSA (as gold standard) and MRA images of these patients were compared by two readers (blinded to both patient data and endovascular procedure data) for residual aneurysms and the status of the parent artery for each type of flow diverter. In a second group of patients, magnetic susceptibility artifacts were manually measured and compared for different FDs.
Seventy-s is not well-suited for research studies comparing different flow diverters. Nitinol FDs appear to be advantageous for TOF-MRA follow-up so as not to miss small aneurysm remnants or clinically relevant parent artery stenosis.
Unlike DSA, TOF-MRA is susceptible to dissimilarities between flow diverters. MRA is not well-suited for research studies comparing different flow diverters. Nitinol FDs appear to be advantageous for TOF-MRA follow-up so as not to miss small aneurysm remnants or clinically relevant parent artery stenosis.
Nutritional awareness and practice of women during pregnancy could be determining their nutritional status, which significantly affects the outcome of pregnancy. Therefore this study aims to explore the maternal nutrition counseling provided by health professionals for pregnant women, Barriers to maternal nutrition, and major interventions.
A descriptive study design with a qualitative method by using ground theory tradition, based on constructivist research approach and Charmaz's (2000) study design has been conducted from September-01/2019 _November-16/2019 among pregnant women who got ANC service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. learn more A purposive sampling technique was used. Practical observations and in-depth interviews were conducted. The sample size adjustment has been carried out according to the information saturation obtained, and finally, 81 practical observations, In-depth interview with two center managers, nine health professionals and eleven term pregnant women has been conducted. An observational checklcounseling provided to pregnant mothers was not adequate and neglected by most stakeholders. Shortage of time due to client flow, Institutional Barriers, Professional Barriers, Maternal Barriers, and Community Barriers were major categories of maternal nutritional counseling barriers. Information update and timely preparation were recommended to health professionals.

Antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and their antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes can spread by hitchhiking in human guts. International travel can exacerbate this public health threat when travelers acquire AMR genes endemic to their destinations and bring them back to their home countries. Prior studies have demonstrated travel-related acquisition of specific opportunistic pathogens and AMR genes, but the extent and magnitude of travel's effects on the gut resistome remain largely unknown.
Using whole metagenomic shotgun sequencing, functional metagenomics, and Dirichlet multinomial mixture models, we investigated the abundance, diversity, function, resistome architecture, and context of AMR genes in the fecal microbiomes of 190 Dutch individuals, before and after travel to diverse international locations.
Travel markedly increased the abundance and α-diversity of AMR genes in the travelers' gut resistome, and we determined that 56 unique AMR genes showed significant acquisition following international travel.
