Medically assisted procreation and assisted reproductive techniques have made giant strides over the past decades, enabling countless couples to achieve parenthood. Still, the ethical and moral concerns that have come to the fore as a result of ART's rise pose a multi-faceted issue that lawmakers have struggled to keep up with; procedures such as heterologous fertilization are strictly regulated, and even banned, in several nations around the globe, among which Italy, where a controversial piece of legislation was passed in 2004; such a reform has been partly nullified by court decisions, among which the Italian Constitutional Court and even the European Court of Human Rights. Relevant scientific articles were identified from Medline, Cochrane Central, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, EMBASE and Google Scholar, through February 2020, by using the following keywords "assisted reproductive techniques", "heterologous fertilization", "European rulings on ART", "reproductive damages". The rise of ART has laid bare a shortage of adequate legal tools for the purpose of guaranteeing the exercise of reproductive rights for all. Hence, the harmonization of regulations, at least at the European level, is greatly needed in order to ensure equality of parental opportunities for all. From the criminologic standpoint, as a crime committed against a psychological background of depression, homicide-suicide is a "dual death" whose significance transcends the specificity of the two events taken singly. Although diametrically opposite phenomena, in fact they share the same pulsions, to be found in aggressiveness, or the desire to eliminate the tensions underlying it. From this perspective, various attempts have been made to classify the homicide-suicide phenomenon, which have indicated that those who, through homicide, deprive themselves of their primary source of gratification may then decide to commit suicide as a result of this unbearable loss. Therefore, suicide post-homicide is a marker of the importance of the bond between the murderer and the victim. Indeed, some Authors have confirmed that the strong attachment between the two increases the likelihood of suicide of the former after the death of the latter; that the crime develops in a relational context featuring abuse and maltreatments; that it also stems from the fear of betrayal and the loss of an object that escapes all attempts to possess it, and that in many cases the destruction of the object through the crime is followed by the self-destruction of the criminal.PURPOSE The purpose is to determine the sufficient extension of margins during laser ablation of oral leukoplakia and observe its short-term recurrence rate. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was designed as a randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 33 oral leukoplakia lesions diagnosed in 30 patients (16 Females and 14 Males) with an age range between 39 and 79 years. The lesions were divided into three groups; Group A 11 lesions in 11 patients, in which the laser ablation was done for the entire lesion without extension of margins; Group B 11 lesions in 8 patients, in which the laser ablation was done for the lesion adding at least 3mm extension of margins; and finally the Group Control consists of 11 untreated lesions in 11 patients, in which only "wait and see" approach was done. RESULTS Complete healing of 13 lesions occurred in both groups A and B. Complete regression of 3 lesions occurred in Group Control. After 6 months of follow-up, 6 of 9 lesions in both groups A and B that showed the recurrence, had shown an initial recurrence after 3 weeks of the laser ablation. Patients with no history of smoking habits showed complete healing of 87.5%, while in ex-smokers complete healing was 42.8%. The statistical analysis was performed, and the averages of all groups are significantly different (p less then 0.00001). DISCUSSION The primary treatment focuses on the elimination of associated risk factors (smoking, alcohol, and local irritating factors). In the literature, the recurrence rate varies between 13.6% and 40.7%, while in our study, it was 45.5% in Group A and 36.4% in Group B. CONCLUSION The recommended extension of margins should be at least 3mm in width. Further research can be performed to evaluate the immediate re-ablation of the lesions which showed an initial recurrence after 3 weeks of laser ablation.PURPOSE Stress is a multifactorial and complex pathway, gaining growing attention from the healthcare community. Surgeons are subjected to higher levels of stress, due to surgical procedures that are demanding and repetitive; unfortunately, high-stress levels may also cause side-effects, as surgical mistakes. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of specific probiotics strains formula on stress levels in oral and maxillofacial surgeons, to improve their quality of life. METHODS We have investigated the hormonal (salivary Cortisol; sC), immune (salivary Immunoglobulin A; sIgA) and cardiovascular (Heart rate, HR, and systolic blood pressure, SBP) responses induced by stress conditions in 40 oral surgeons, randomly selected and allocated, according to their experience level, in three categories senior, expert, and junior. RESULTS The results described how the number of heartbeats/ minute and SBP are slightly raised in all surgeons at different timepoints. Such data allow us to assess that work-related stress can induce an increase in cardiovascular parameters, even if they are not significantly modified by the use of probiotics. Mito-TEMPO concentration On the other hand, our data indicate that 10 weeks of probiotic integration may induce the improvement of other stress-related physiological parameters in oral surgeons with different degrees of surgical experience, such as the salivary cortisol levels, even under stress conditions. Moreover, in the test group (probiotics administration), the immunoglobulin levels were higher than the control (placebo administration) group this happens as a consequence of the regular use of probiotics, which may induce an increased number of IgA producing cells. DISCUSSION Our data indicated that 10 weeks of probiotics-enriched diet modify some stress-related physiological parameters in oral surgeons with different degrees of surgical experience, but it does not impact on the overall cardiovascular risk.Septic pulmonary embolism (SPE) is an uncommon disease in which a microorganism- containing thrombus causes an inflammatory reaction and a mechanical obstruction in the vascular system of the lungs. Usually it is associated with tricuspid valve vegetation, septic thrombophlebitis or infected venous catheters. We present a rare and fatal case of massive septic pulmonary thromboembolism occurred in a diabetic woman, who complained in previous days dyspnoea, abdominal pain and nausea. Autopsy findings showed evidence of an erosive cystitis, while lungs examination showed total occlusion of pulmonary circulation system due to thrombo-embolic clots. In literature cases report about an association between septic pulmonary thromboembolism and erosive cystitis haven't been reported. So, we here show the first reported fatal case of a septic pulmonary thromboembolism as a lethal evolution of an erosive cystitis.Little is known about the Covid-19 transmission through ocular tissue, and more research needs to be carried out in order to confirm its ability to infect ocular tissue and its pathogenic mechanisms. Covid-19 may be detected in the tears and conjunctival secretions in novel coronavirus pneumonia patients with conjunctivitis. This case report shows a severe viral conjunctivitis in a patient diagnosed with Covid-19 on the Diamond Princess ship, characterized by both red, irritated and swollen eyes, with transparent serous secretions, conjunctival chemosis, pseudomembranes of fibrin and inflammatory cells on the tarsal conjunctiva accompanied by preauricular lymph nodes and enlarged submaxillaries.Myositis ossificans is a benign ossifying soft-tissue mass that occurs in muscle. In the majority of cases it is related to trauma but rarely observed in the neck. A 54 year-old-man with history of minor trauma and anticoagulant drug assumption for V Leiden mutation, was referred to our institution for a painless mass in the right supraclavicular fossa. On CT plan study a mass with negative attenuation values located in the posterior triangle of the neck, into the inferior belly of the right omohyoid muscle was evident. On MRI the lesion appears as an ovalar mass, with smooth borders, isointense to muscles on T1 images, isointense to fat on T2 images, intensely enhancing after i.v. Gd administration. After surgical removal the pathologist concluded for the nature of myositis ossificans. This is the first case, as far as we know, reported in the literature of a myositis ossificans arising in the inferior belly of the omohyoid muscle in a patient treated with dicumarol.Invasive Cervical Root Resorption (ICRR) has a poor known aetiology, compared with typical external root resorption it appears very aggressive, posing a high risk of tooth loss. ICCR is often misdiagnosed, the resorption is caused by cells of the peridontium penetrating the outer surface of the root in the cervical region, spreading out throughout the root dentin. ICCR is usually detected in the adulthood on permanent teeth, anyway in a small amount of cases is possible to observe ICCR on impacted permanent canines during the adolescence and first adulthood. The aim of this paper is to present our experience with a ICCR case occurred in a young woman previously treated for an impacted canine with orthodontic therapy.Using the single molecule tracking technique, the diffusion behavior of peptide amphiphiles (PAs) with different numbers of alkyl tails at a hydrophobic solid-liquid interface has been investigated. The effect of the number of alkyl tails of PAs on molecular trajectories at the hydrophobic solid-liquid interface has been systematically studied. PA molecules display an intermittent motion consisting of immobilization and hopping processes, which has been well simulated by the continuous time random walk (CTRW) model. The results reveal that the hydrophobic interaction between the PAs and hydrophobic surface plays an important role in the diffusion behavior of PAs. Increasing the number of alkyl tails in PAs systematically reduces the mobility of PAs on the hydrophobic surface. Moreover, the diffusion behavior of PAs at the hydrophobic interface also shows pH dependence. A decrease in pH is beneficial to the motion of all PAs on the hydrophobic surface, which can be ascribed to the protonation of PAs in acidic solutions. Therefore, the hydrophobic interaction is crucial to the transport of peptide amphiphiles at hydrophobic interfaces which would be important for the design of peptides in biological applications.Strong coupling between surface plasmons and excitons leads to the formation of plexcitons with new energy states, providing a versatile platform for a range of frontier research subjects. Single plasmonic nanoparticles have recently attracted much attention for realizing strong coupling due to their small mode volume. However, the usually used chemically synthesized metal nanoparticles are unfavorable for accurately tailoring the surface plasmon resonances and adverse to the implementation of on-chip integration. Here, we report for the first time the realization of strong coupling between monolayer WSe2 and lithographically defined single metal nanoparticles. Focusing on gold nanobowties, the large Rabi splitting of 187 meV is achieved. The excitons around the nanogaps in the nanobowties contribute dominantly to the coupling strength, and the coupling strength is larger for smaller nanobowties due to the smaller mode volume. Moreover, the hybrid systems of monolayer WSe2 and gold nanoparticle monomers of nanorods, nanotriangles, and nanodisks are found to closely satisfy the criterion of strong coupling.
