Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) are common chronic diseases noted in humans. AF and HF share several risk factors, such as age, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. They can interact with each other, while both their morbidity and mortality have been considerably increased. And AF and HF often occur together, suggesting a strong association between the two. However, the underlying mechanism behind this association is not well understood. Among them, aging is the most significant common risk factor, which represents an aging heart and is characterized by fibrosis and decreased number of cardiomyocytes, known as senescence-related cardiac remodeling for both atria and ventricles. We aimed to compare baseline clinical features, cardiac parameters, and mortality in V122I-ATTR with the wild-type ATTR and other hATTR subtypes. We systematically searched PubMed/Medline and Google Scholar databases to identify relevant studies from inception to 10th September, 2020 reporting phenotypic, echocardiographic, and/or laboratory parameters in patients with hereditary and wild types of cardiac amyloidoses. selleck A total of 2843 patients from 7 individual studies with 67-100% males and an overall follow-up duration of 51.6 ± 30.4 months were identified. The mean age of diagnosis among wild-type ATTR patients was 77 years, followed by 71.2 and 65 years in V122I and T60A group patients, respectively. V122I patients were mostly black, had a poor quality of life, and highest mortality risk compared with other subtypes. Merely, the presence of V122I mutation was identified as an independent predictor of mortality. V30M subtype correlated with the least severe cardiac disease and a median survival duration comparable with T60A subtype. V122I ATTR is an aggressive disease, prevalent in African-Americans, and is associated with a greater morbidity and mortality, which is partly attributed to its misdiagnosis and/or late diagnosis. Current advances in non-invasive studies to diagnose hATTR coupled with concurrent drug therapies have improved quality of life and provide a survival benefit to these patients.
In rodents, environmental enrichment (EE) produces both preventive and curative effects on drug addiction, and this effect is believed to depend at least in part on EE's actions on the stress system.
This study investigated whether exposure to EE during abstinence reduces methamphetamine seeking after extended self-administration. In addition, we investigated whether these effects are associated with alterations in the levels of glucocorticoid receptors (GR) in the brain and whether administration of GR antagonists blocks methamphetamine relapse.
We allowed rats to self-administer methamphetamine for twenty 14-h sessions. After 3 weeks of abstinence either in standard (SE) or EE conditions, we measured methamphetamine seeking in a single 3-h session. Then, we used western blot techniques to measure GR levels in several brain areas. Finally, in an independent group of rats, after methamphetamine self-administration and abstinence in SE, we administered the GR antagonist mifepristone, and we investigated methamphetamine seeking.
Exposure to EE reduced methamphetamine seeking and reversed methamphetamine-induced increases in GR levels in the ventral and dorsal hippocampus. In addition, EE decreased GR levels in the amygdala in drug-naive animals, but this effect was prevented by previous exposure to methamphetamine. Administration of mifepristone significantly decreased methamphetamine seeking.
The anti-craving effects of EE are paralleled by restoration of methamphetamine-induced dysregulation of GR in the hippocampus. These results provide support for the hypothesis that the effect of EE on methamphetamine relapse is at least in part mediated by EE's action on the brain stress system.

Cancer patients are increasingly incorporating medical marijuana into the management of treatment-related side effects. Currently however, data is limited regarding the risks and benefits of therapeutic cannabis for cancer patients. We sought to characterize radiation oncologists' practices and opinions regarding therapeutic cannabis via a nationwide survey.
An anonymous survey was distributed via email to 873 radiation oncologists in the American Society for Radiation Oncology member database. Radiation oncologists were asked their opinions and practices regarding the use of therapeutic cannabis for their patients. Bivariate analyses of potential predictors for responses were conducted using standard statistical techniques.
One hundred seven radiation oncologists completed the survey. According to the survey, 36% of respondents would recommend therapeutic cannabis to their patients to mitigate treatment toxicity. Physicians practicing in states where medical marijuana is legal were more likely to recomrapeutic cannabis may play a role in their patients' care.
Populations affected by cancer from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds with low English proficiency have poorer health outcomes than the Australian population. They also have limited access to cancer information and may hold health beliefs that affect health-seeking behaviour. A leading cancer support organisation in Australia conducted research with the largest language groups in Australia with the lowest English proficiency to guide the development of appropriate translated resources.
Six focus groups were conducted with Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and Vietnamese speaking cancer survivors, carers and those significantly affected by cancer to understand their health beliefs, information needs and preferred modes of access. Thirteen interviews were also conducted with service providers supporting these communities.

We searched MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and CENTRAL, EMBASE, Scopus, and clinical trial registries ( clinicaltrials.gov , International Clinical Trials Registry Platform and Google Scholar) to identify studies involving a preoperative nutrition-based intervention or multimodal prehabilitation (nutrition with exercise) of at least 7 days, in lung cancer patients awaiting surgery. Studies must have reported results on at least one of the following outcomes functional capacity, pulmonary function, postoperative complications, and length of hospital stay. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool for randomized trials and the modified Newcastle-Ottawa scale for non-controlled trials.

The plant has become endangered due to its unscientifically exploitation and high medicinal values. In the Present study 10 randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and 6 ISSR markers were employed to assess genetic divergence among micro propagated, wild and field cultivated plants of Gloriosa superba collected from different parts of India. In RAPD analysis, all the 10 accession with 10 RAPD primers amplified 466 fragments, with 96.43 % polymorphism and with an average of 46.6 bands per primer. The size of amplicons varied from 1656 to 100 bp. While, ISSR primers produced 328 fragments of which 298 were polymorphic with an average of 49.7 bands per primer with 91.83% polymorphism. The size of amplicons ranges from 2395 to 181 bp. RAPD, ISSR markers were also assessed by calculating polymorphic information content (PIC) to discriminate the genotypes, Average PIC value for RAPD, ISSR and combined RAPD + ISSR markers obtained was ≤ 0.50 suggesting the informativeness of markers. Jaccard's coefficient ranges from 0.18 to 0.75 (RAPD) and 0.17 to 0.61 (ISSR) and 0.21-0.52 for pooled ISSR and RAPD markers. The clustering pattern based on UPGMA analysis of the genotypes in the combined analysis revealed that the majority of the genotypes remained similar to the ISSR dendrogram, while the RAPD-based dendrogram showed some variation in the clustering of genotypes. The result of PCA scattered plot obtained were in agreement with the UPGMA dendrogram, which further confirms the genetic relationships explain by cluster analysis.
