Although there is a high prevalence of mesenteric artery stenoses (MAS), an abundant collateral network in the mesenteric circulation mitigates occurrence of ischemia. The most common etiology of CMI is atherosclerosis. CMI is a clinical diagnosis, based upon typical and atypical symptoms and consistent anatomic findings. Typical symptoms of CMI are postprandial abdominal pain, unintended weight loss and food avoidance. The main modalities to diagnose MAS are duplex ultrasound, CT angiography or MR angiography, although high resolution CTA is preferred. iFSP1 Endovascular therapy with balloon expandable stents has become the preferred treatment for MAS.Local field potentials (LFPs) recorded intracranially display a range of location-specific oscillatory spectra which have been related to cognitive processes. Although the mechanisms producing LFPs are not completely understood, it is likely that voltage-gated ion channels which produce action potentials and patterned discharges play a significant role. It is also known that antipsychotic drugs (APDs) affect LFP spectra and a direct inhibitory effect on voltage-gated potassium channels has been reported. Additionally, voltage-gated potassium channels have been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, a disorder for which APDs are primary therapies. link2 In this study we sought to i) better characterise the effects of two APDs on LFPs spectra and connectivity measures and ii) examine the effects of potassium channel modulators on LFPs and potential overlap of effects with APDs. Intracranial electrodes were implanted in hippocampus (HIP) and pre-frontal cortex (PFC) of C57BL/6J mice; power spectra, coherence and phase-amplitude cross-frequency coupling were measured. Drugs tested were APDs haloperidol and clozapine as well as voltage-gated potassium channel modulators (KVMs) 4-aminopyridine (4-AP), tetraethylammonium, retigabine and E-4031. Both APDs and KVMs significantly reduced gamma power except 4-AP, which conversely increased gamma power. Clozapine and retigabine additionally reduced gamma coherence between HIP and PFC, while 4-AP demonstrated the opposite effect. Phase-amplitude coupling between theta and gamma oscillations in HIP was significantly reduced by the administration of haloperidol and retigabine. link3 These results provide previously undescribed effects of APDs on LFP properties and demonstrate novel modulation of LFP characteristics by KVMs that intriguingly overlap with the APD effects.Periodontitis is a widespread chronic infectious-inflammatory disease associated with multiple systemic diseases. Visfatin is an adipokine-enzyme that can be locally produced by human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) and human gingival fibroblasts (hGFs). It can upregulate proinflammatory cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in various types of cells. However, the effects of visfatin on healthy and inflammatory human periodontal cells as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study firstly demonstrated visfatin expression was highly elevated in inflamed human gingiva and Pg LPS-treated hPDLCs. Moreover, recombinant visfatin significantly upregulated the expression of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6) and prodegradative factors (EMPPRIN, MMP1, MMP3 and MMP13) in hPDLCs. Next, we found the levels of proinflammatory and prodegradative cytokines were significantly increased in visfatin-overexpressing hPDLCs, and decreased in visfatin-silencing inflammatory hGFs (iGFs) when treated with Pg LPS. In the absence of Pg LPS, visfatin silencing failed to affect the expression of these factors in iGFs, and overexpression of visfatin upregulated MMPs but no other factors in hPDLCs. Furthermore, marked NF-κB pathway activation with increased phosphorylation of p65 was observed in visfatin-overexpressing hPDLCs. BAY11-7082, a specific inhibitor of NF-κB, partially reversed the upregulation proinflammatory and prodegradative factors induced by visfatin overexpression. Taken together, this study showed that visfatin critically regulates Pg LPS-induced proinflammatory/prodegradative effects in healthy and inflammatory periodontal cells partially via NF-κB pathway. The findings suggest that visfatin is closely involved in the development of periodontitis, and may serve as a promising novel biomarker and therapeutic target for periodontitis management.Mismatch negativity (MMN) is an intensively studied event-related potential component that reflects pre-attentive auditory processing. Existing spatial MMN (sMMN) studies usually use loud-speakers in different locations or deliver sound with binaural localization cues through earphones to elicit MMN, which either was practically complicated or sounded unnatural to the subjects. In the present study, we generated head related transfer function (HRTF)-based spatial sounds and verified that the HRTF-based sounds retained the left and the right spatial localization cues. We further used them as deviants to elicit sMMN with conventional oddball paradigm. Results showed that sMMN was successfully elicited by the HRTF-based deviants in 18 of 21 healthy subjects in two separate sessions. Furthermore, the left deviants elicited higher sMMN amplitudes in the right hemisphere compared to the left hemisphere, while the right deviants elicited sMMN with similar amplitudes in both hemispheres, which supports a combination of contralateral and right-hemispheric dominance in spatial auditory information processing. In addition, the sMMN in response to the right deviants showed good test-retest reliability, while the sMMN in response to the left deviants had weak test-retest reliability. These findings implicate that HRTF-based sMMN could be a robust paradigm to investigate spatial localization and discrimination abilities.
Pharmacologic and behavioral interventions that block reconsolidation of reactivated fear memory have demonstrated only limited success in modifying stronger and long-standing fear memories. Given the efficacy of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in treating PTSD, pursuit eye movements are a promising and novel intervention for studies of human memory reconsolidation. Here, we examined the efficacy of pursuit eye movements in interfering with reconsolidation of conditioned fear memories.
We conducted a 3-day differential Pavlovian fear conditioning procedure in healthy adults, using videos of biologically prepared stimuli (tarantulas), partly reinforced with electrical shocks while recording skin conductance response (SCR) as a measure of autonomic conditioned responses. Fear conditioning was performed on Day 1. On Day 2, 38 participants were randomized into groups performing pursuit eye movements either immediately after fear memory reactivation, when the fear memory was stable, or 10min later, when the fear memory was assumed to be more labile. On Day 3, fear memory strength was assessed by SCR to both reactivated and nonreactivated fear memories.
Strong differential conditioning to the spider stimuli were observed during both fear acquisition and fear memory reactivation. Reactivated fear memory conditioned responses of participants performing pursuit eye movements after a 10-min delay were significantly smaller in the reinstatement phase (0.16 μS; 95% CI [0.02, 0.31]).
Pursuit eye movements were effective in reducing fear-conditioned SCR in reinstatement. This result supports the theoretical proposition that EMDR can interfere with reactivated fear memory reconsolidation.

Every ERP researcher encounters the obstacle of determining whether measurements are precise or psychometrically reliable enough for an intended purpose. In this primer, we review three types of measurements metrics data quality, group-level internal consistency, and subject-level internal consistency. Data quality estimates characterize the precision of ERP scores but provide no inherent information about whether scores are precise enough for examining individual differences. Group-level internal consistency characterizes the ratio of between-person differences to the precision of those scores, and provides a single internal consistency estimate for an entire group of participants that risks masking low internal consistency for some individuals. Subject-level internal consistency considers the precision of an ERP score for a person relative to between-person differences for a group, and an estimate is yielded for each individual. We apply each metric to published error-related negativity (ERN) and reward positivity (RewP) data and demonstrate how failing to consider data quality and internal consistency can undermine statistical inferences. We conclude with general comments on how these estimates may be used to improve measurement quality and methodological transparency. Subject-level internal consistency computation is implemented within the ERP Reliability Analysis (ERA) Toolbox.
To report contemporary trends in hip arthroscopy case volume in the United States using a large cross-sectional cohort with accurate laterality tracking for assessment of revision surgery and rates of conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Using Current Procedural Terminology codes, we queried the Mariner PearlDiver dataset for patients who underwent hip arthroscopy from 2010 to 2017. Patient demographics were recorded and subsequent hip arthroscopy procedures and THA conversion within 2 years after surgery were tracked using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision codes to accurately identify laterality. Emergency department and hospital admission within 30 days after surgery were queried.
Of the 53,103 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy procedures, hip arthroscopy case volume increased 2-fold from 2010 to 2014 but remained relatively unchanged from 2014 to 2017. The most common age group undergoing surgery was 40 to 49 years, and female patients represented 70% of cases. Two-year subsequent surgery rate was 19%, with 15.
