Recent advances in metabolomics provide tools to investigate human metabolome in order to establish new parameters to study different approaches towards diagnostics, diseases and their treatment. The present study focused on the untargeted identification of metabolites in serum of patients with coronary artery disease who were under treatment at the time of sample collection. AUCs (Area Under the Curves) from different peaks were considered for the analysis and comparison purposes. The metabolome was studied using GC-MS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) and the metabolites were identified with NIST (The National Institute of Standards and Technology) and Wiley library matches. A total of 17 metabolites were identified and focused on to compare with the metabolome of healthy individuals. T test analysis found significant differences in alanine, malonic acid, ribitol, D-glucose, mannose (P less then 0.001), acetohydroxamic acid, N-carboxyglycine, and aminobutyrate (P less then 0.05). Principal Component Analysis of serum metabolites data found three components out of 17 metabolites; RC1 (Acetohydroxamic acid, alanine, D-glucose, malonic acid, mannose, N-carboxy glycine and ribitol), RC2 (Heptadecanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, octadecanoic acid and Trans-9-octadecanoic acid), RC3 (Aminobutyrate, D-sorbit, gamma lactone, valine, benzene propanoic acid and lactic acid). No correlation was found among the components.Honey is a complex foodstuff found in nature which is used without any processing. Honey has been in use in medicine as well as raw food since ancient times. Essentially, it is a blend of sugars especially fructose and glucose. selleck compound The objectives of the study were to determine major sugar composition as well as pesticides contamination in honey samples. Further, Hydroxy-methyl-furfuraldehyde (HMF) level was also determined to ascertain the freshness of honey samples. A total of 14 samples were collected from local market and tested for fructose, glucose, sucrose, HMF and organochlorine pesticides using HPLC and GC-MS techniques respectively. The total sugars in the 14 honey samples were found ranging between 50.26 and 74.74 g/100 g of honey. The chromatographic results showed the presence of the sugars like fructose and glucose in all honey samples. The honey sample SH-11 was found to contain the highest amount of fructose (40.63%). On the other hand, the lowest amount of fructose with 29.08% was observed in SH-7. The HPLC analysis also revealed the presence of sucrose in two samples but under the permissible limit. The average ratio of fructose to glucose in these honey samples was 1.3. None of the sample has ratio below 1.0 indicating lesser chances for honey to crystallize on storage. Out of 14 honey samples, 13 samples were found negative for the presence of any of the 63 pesticides tested. Only sample No. 13, was found to contain 15.95 ppb hexachlorobenzene per kilogram of honey. The HMF was not detected in four samples but in remaining samples it was well below the maximum permissible limit. No pesticide and sugar adulteration was observed in any of the honey samples. The honeys collected from Saudi Arabian markets were found to confirm the standards set by the regional and international standardization organization, the GSO and Codex Alimentarius Commission respectively.Beneficial effects of silicon (Si) on growth have been observed in some plant species, reportedly due to stoichiometric changes of C, N, and P. However, little is known about the effects on the stoichiometric relationships between C, N, and P when silicon is supplied via different modes in sorghum and sunflower plants under salt stress conditions. Therefore, the current study was performed to investigate the impact of differing modes of Si supply on shoot biomass production and CNP stoichiometry in sorghum and sunflower plants under salt stress. Two experiments were performed in a glass greenhouse using the strong Si-accumulator plant sorghum, as well as the intermediate type Si-accumulator sunflower, both of which were grown in pots filled with washed sand. Plant species were cultivated for 30 days in the absence or presence of salt stress (0 or 100 mM) and supplemented with one of four Si treatments control plants (without Si), 28.6 mmol Si L-1 via foliar application, 2.0 mmol Si L-1 via nutrient solution, and combined application of foliar and nutrient solution, each group with five replications. The results revealed that supplied Si modified the C, N, and P concentrations, thereby enhancing the CNP stoichiometry and shoot dry matter of sorghum and sunflower plants under salt stress. Both application of Si via nutrient solution, as well as combined application via foliar and nutrient solution, increased the CN ratio in both plant species under salt stress, but in sorghum plants decreased the CP and NP ratios and increased the shoot biomass production by 39%, while in sunflower plants increased the CP and NP ratios and increased the shoot biomass production by 24%. Our findings suggest that salt stress alleviation by Si impacts CNP stoichiometric relationships in a variable manner depending on the ability of the species to accumulate Si, as well as the route of Si administration.Chalcone synthase (CHS) is a key enzyme and producing flavonoid derivatives as well play a vital roles in sustaining plant growth and development. However, the systematic and comprehensive analysis of CHS genes in island cotton (G. barbadense) has not been reported yet especially response to cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS). To fill this knowledge gap, a genome-wide investigation of CHS genes were studied in island cotton. A total of 20 GbCHS genes were identified and grouped into five GbCHSs. The gene structure analysis revealed that most of GbCHS genes consisted of two exons and one intron, and 20 motifs were identified. Twenty five pairs duplicated events (12 GbCHS genes) were identified including 23 segmental duplication pairs and two tandem duplication events, representing that GbCHS gene family amplification mainly owned to segmental duplication events and evolving slowly. Gene expression analysis exhibited that the GbCHS family genes presented a diversity expression patterns in various organs of cotton.
