phaeochromogenes ATCC 3338T was 88.1%. Digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) value between strain TRM68295T and S. phaeochromogenes ATCC 3338T was 40.7%. The multilocus sequence analysis of five house-keeping genes (atpD, gyrB, recA, rpoB, and trpB) indicated that the MLSA distances between the strain and similar species were greater than the threshold of 0.007. Based on the above studies, strain TRM68295T is considered as a novel species of the genus Streptomyces, for which the name Streptomyces albicerus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TRM68295T (= CCTCC AA 2018085T = KCTC 49272T).Pneumocystis jirovecii is an opportunistic respiratory pathogen causing Pneumocystis pneumonia (PcP) in immunocompromised patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic diversity of P. jirovecii isolates (n 84) obtained from PcP patients using multilocus sequencing method based on mt26S, SOD, and CYB loci. Among the 84 clinical samples that were positive for P. jirovecii DNA, 31 (36.90%) of them were genotyped using at least one locus. Of the 31 clinical samples, 26 of them were successfully genotyped using all loci whereas three samples were genotyped using either mt26S/CYB loci or mt26S/SOD loci. Additionally, there were two more clinical samples that were genotyped using CYB or SOD locus. Using mt26S locus, genotypes 2, 3, 7, and 8 were detected. DLThiorphan Frequencies of genotype 7 and 8 were higher and both of them were found in 11 (n 29; 37.93%) clinical samples. Using SOD locus, SOD 1, 2, and 4 genotypes were detected. SOD 1 was the predominant genotype (20/28; 71.42%). During the analyses of CYB locus, CYB 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 as well as a new CYB genotype were detected. CYB 1 (16/29; 55.17%) and 2 (10/29; 34.48%) were the predominant genotypes. Overall, according to the multilocus sequencing results E, F, M, N, P, and V multilocus genotypes were detected among the PcP patients. In addition, SOD 1 was the predominant genotype and CYB had a more polymorphic locus.Microplastics ( less then  5 mm) are considered to be global environmental pollutants. This study investigates the occurrence, physical properties, polymer composition and surface morphology, and element composition of MPs present in food-grade salts produced from seawater and bore-well water in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Southeast coast of India. Fourteen different brands of sea salts and bore-well salts were collected from the salt manufacturing units. The mean abundance of microplastics was 35 ± 15 to 72 ± 40 items/kg in sea salt and 2 ± 1 to 29 ± 11 items/kg in bore-well salt. Four types of polymers viz. polyethylene (51.6%), polypropylene (25%), polyester (21.8%), and polyamide (1.6%) were found in salt. Polyethylene fibers of size ranging from 100 to 500 µm were observed commonly. Being manufactured from seawater, sea salt had the highest quantities of different microplastic particles. The study reveals that people consume approximately 216 particles of MPs per year via sea salt and 48 items per year via bore-well salt if the average person has a daily salt intake of 5 g. The surface morphology of MPs as exhibited in the SEM-EDAX images obtained in the study revealed the different weathering features of MPs, such as pits, cracks, and particles adhering to the surface. The presence of the elements Fe, As, and Ni on the surfaces as identified by energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy indicates that these elements exist in the environment as contaminants and have become associated with the MPs. The trace metals adsorbed onto MPs increase the risks of human exposure and may cause some adverse effects in humans.Gastropod mollusks have achieved an eminent importance as biological indicators of environmental quality. In the present study, we applied a multibiomarker approach to evaluate its applicability for the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis, exposed to common industrial and agricultural pollutants at environmentally relevant concentrations. The snails were exposed to copper (Cu2+, 10 µg L-1), zinc (Zn2+, 130 µg L-1), cadmium (Cd2+, 15 µg L-1), or the thiocarbamate fungicide "Tattoo" (91 µg L-1) during 14 days. Metal treatment and exposure to "Tattoo" caused variable patterns of increase or decrease of metal levels in the digestive gland, with a clear accumulation of only Cd and Zn after respective metal exposure. Treatment with Cu and "Tattoo" caused an increase of cytochrome P450-related EROD activity. Glutathione S-transferase was inhibited by exposure to Cu, Zn, and "Tattoo." Treatment with the "Tattoo" led to an inhibition of cholinesterase activity, whereas Cu and Cd increased its activity. Caspase-3 activity was enhanced by up to 3.3 times in all treatments. A nearly uniform inhibitory effect for oxidative stress response parameters was observed in all kinds of exposure, revealing an inhibition of superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) activity, a depression of glutathione (GSH and GSSG) and of protein carbonyl levels. Pollutant-specific effects were observed for the catalase activity, superoxide anion production, and lipid peroxidation levels. Due to the high response sensitivity of Lymnaea stagnalis to chemical impacts, we suggest our study as a contribution for biomarker studies with this species under field conditions.PURPOSE Obesity is a heterogeneous condition and distinct adiposity subtypes may differentially affect type 2 diabetes risk. We assessed relations between genetically determined subtypes of adiposity and changes in glycemic traits in a dietary intervention trial. METHODS The four genetic subtypes of adiposity including waist-hip ratio-increase only (WHRonly+), body mass index-increase only (BMIonly+), WHR-increase and BMI-increase (BMI+WHR+), and WHR-decrease and BMI-increase (BMI+WHR-) were assessed by polygenetic scores (PGSs), calculated based on 159 single nucleotide polymorphisms related to BMI and/or WHR. We examined the associations between the four PGSs and changes in fasting glucose, insulin, β-cell function (HOMA-B) and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in 692 overweight participants (84% white Americans) who were randomly assigned to one of four weight-loss diets in a 2-year intervention trial. RESULTS Higher BMI+WHR-PGS was associated with a greater decrease in 2-year changes in waist circumference in white participants (P = 0.
