The purpose of this study was to compare the long-term functional status of patients treated surgically for a clavicular nonunion using patients treated either op-eratively or non-operatively for an acute clavicle fracture as a comparison group.

Twenty consecutive patients treated by a single surgeon for a clavicle fracture nonunion were identified. For comparison of outcomes, acute clavicle fractures were identified from an electronic medical record (EMR) query of the same orthopedic surgeon. Ninety acute clavicle fracture patients were identified and 27 (30%) patients were available for long-term follow-up. Clavicular nonunions were compared to acute clavicle fracture patients in a univariate analysis then a multivariate analysis to analyze clavicle nonunion patients against operative and non-operative acute clavicle fracture patients. The main outcome measures were time to bony union, postoperative complications, visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores, and Short Musculoskeletal Functional Assessment (SMFA) scores at long-term follow-up.

There was no difference in time to healing or functional outcomes as assessed by SMFA and VAS pain scores between clavicle nonunion and acute fracture patients. Postoperative complications also did not differ between the groups.

The purpose of this study was to identify and characterize challenges and benefits to the use of tele-medicine for the treatment of pediatric orthopedic patients during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

A novel survey was sent to all faculty members at an academic pediatric orthopedic practice in New York City regarding their use of telemedicine in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Faculty members performed 227 unique tele-health visits with pediatric orthopedic patients over a 7-week period in early 2020, and this formed the basis for responses to the survey. The results of the faculty survey suggest that telemedicine has substantial clinical benefits for pediatric orthopedic surgeons and our patients that extend beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. Providers recognize the limits of conducting physical exams over telemedicine and should always use clinical judgment when evaluating patients, par-ticularly trauma patients who may require prompt referral for additional care.

The ability to provide pediatric or pediatric orthopedic patients via telehealth is viable. Until recently, telehealth represented a small fraction of orthopedic surgery patient interactions. The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a swift adoption of telehealth to avoid patient and provider exposure. This study analyzed patient and surgeon satisfaction with telehealth within the department of orthopedic surgery during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All orthopedic surgery patients who partici-pated in telehealth from March 30 to April 30, 2020, were sent a 14-question survey via e-mail. Orthopedic surgeons who used telehealth were sent a separate 14-question survey at the end of the study period. Factors influencing patient satisfaction were determined using univariate proportional odds and multivariate partial proportional odds models.

Three hundred and eighty-two patients and 33 surgeons completed the surveys. On average, patients were "satisfied" with telehealth (4.25/5.00 ± 0.96), and 37.0% preferred future visits to be conducted using telehealth.
