Isolated thyroid rupture and hematoma are rare following blunt neck injury and can lead to airway compromise and the need for emergency management. We report a 23-year-old male patient who presented with neck swelling and aphonia following a road traffic accident. Contrast-enhanced CT scan showed laceration and hematoma involving left thyroid lobe. The patient underwent left hemithyroidectomy and accomplished complete recovery. A high index of suspicion for thyroid rupture must be maintained when patients presented with voice changes or respiratory distress.

Smartphone's popularity has risen to such an extent in recent years that it is unimaginable for the people to stay away from it for a minute. The excessive usage has given rise to a condition termed as nomophobia or a feeling of discomfort or anxiety experienced whenever unable to use the smartphone. The aim of this study was to evaluate nomophobia among medical students who are using smartphones.

A cross-sectional study was conducted among the undergraduate medical students. A 20-item nomophobia questionnairewas used to assess the prevalence of nomophobia among the students, and also the purpose and in which context smartphone was used was also asked. Data collected were coded and entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. selleckchem It was analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 16, software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). A chi-square test was used to test the association, and

<0.05 was considered significant.

The mean age of the 451 students was 20.7±1.72 years, and the majority were females. Mild nomophobia was seen in 15.5% of the students; 67.2% were having moderate nomophobia, while 17.3% were suffering from severe nomophobia. The overall highest mean score was for 'not able to communicate' dimension of nomophobia and lowest for 'giving up convenience.'

Nomophobia is an emerging behavioural problem which needs attention. It is of serious concern that all medical studentswere suffering from nomophobia, with varying grade of severity. Increasing awareness regarding the harmful effects of smartphone addiction is needed.

There are epidemiological lacunae in literature of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. We report a prospective observational study of asymptomatic HCV infected patients from a tertiary care Government Hospital.

All consecutive asymptomatic antibodies to hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV) positive patients were studied from July 2011 to April 2016. Patients were reviewed for demographic factors including symptom profile, risk factors, family screening, and point prevalence in relation to various districts of Punjab and Haryana.

One thousand twelve patients were studied with median age of 52 years (range13-85) with a male to female ratio of 0.87. Eight hundred (79.25%) patients were from Punjab and 110 (10.67%) from Haryana. Forty percent patients were in 40-60 age group. Six hundred seventy patients (66.21%) did not have any apparent risk factor, 274 (27.08%) had one risk factor, and 68 patients (6.72%) had > 2 risk factors. Commonest risk factor was h/o surgery in 243 patients (24.01%), 32 patients had h/o IV drug abuse and 29 among them were < 30 years. Three hundred and sixty-seven families and children were screened, and 27 spouses and 16 children were found to be anti-HCV positive. The risk factor of IV drug abuse was more common in the younger adults with age ≤ 30 years as compared with age > 30 years (p = 0.001).

HCV infection was common in certain districts of Punjab and common in adults of 40-60 years. This finding needs to be confirmed in larger population-based study. The IV drug abuse is the risk factor of concern among young adults.

Hypernatremic dehydration is an uncommon but a serious cause of readmission in neonates especially in the ones on exclusive breast-feeding. The management of such neonates is challenging as serious complications can occur both because of hypernatremic dehydration and its rapid correction. The aim was to study the clinical profile of neonates with hypernatremic dehydration and determine the outcome of these neonates after appropriate management.

This is a prospective cross-sectional observational study of neonates readmitted with hypernatremic dehydration in a tertiary care hospital in a 12-month period from March 2017 to February 2018. The inclusion criterion was as follows all neonates with serum sodium >145 mEq/l. The exclusion criteria were as follows neonates with hypoglycemia, positive sepsis screen and any other congenital diseases. Neonates with serum sodium between 145 and 160 mEq/l were treated with supervised quantified oral feeds at 150ml/kg/day, unless they had features of shock. Neonates wcorrection.

Hypernatremic dehydration can be a serious problem even in term healthy neonates especially in exclusively breast-fed neonates born to primiparous women. Our study shows that quantified oral feeding is effective in successful management of hypernatremic dehydration and not associated with the dreaded CNS complications due to rapid correction.

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is the most popular method of hair transplantation in today's world. Hair transplantation in androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in males can restore the frontal hairline and provide hair density in alopecic areas to the satisfaction of most patients.

Consecutive male patients of AGA who underwent hair transplantation by FUE method in two centers between the period of January 2016 and June 2017 have been included in this study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Photographic images, trichoscopy and Likert's scale were used to assess patient's improvement in hair density after the transplantation procedure. Statistical methods using SPSS software was used to analyze the results. Institutional ethical clearance and patients' written consent for procedure and images was obtained. The study was an observational retrospective study using data and images from records for which consent and ethical clearance was obtained from patients and the institution.

Average number of follicular units transplanted in patients was 1290 (improvement in hair density of 30.
