The various scientific reports collected from different bibliometric sources suggested that A. marmelos and its bioactive constituents could play a vital role in the prevention of several chronic and degenerative diseases associated with oxidation stress. Augmented skeletal muscle metaboreflex activation may accompany chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The maintained metaboreflex control of mean arterial pressure (MAP) that has been reported may reflect limited evaluation using only one moderate bout of static handgrip (HG) and following postexercise ischaemia (PEI).

We tested the hypothesis that cardiovascular and respiratory responses to high-intensity static HG and isolated metaboreflex activation during PEI are augmented in COPD patients.

Ten patients with moderate to severe COPD and eight healthy age- and BMI-matched controls performed two-minute static HG at moderate (30% maximal voluntary contraction; MVC) and high (40% MVC) intensity followed by PEI.

Despite similar ratings of perceived exertion, arm muscle mass and strength, COPD patients demonstrated lower MAP responses during both HG intensities compared with controls (time×group interaction, p<.05). Indeed, during high-intensity HG at 40% MVC, peak MAP responses were significantly lower in COPD patients (ΔMAP COPD 41±9mmHg vs. controls 56±14mmHg, p<.05). Notably, no group differences in MAP were observed during PEI (e.g. 40% MVC PEI ΔMAP COPD 33±9mmHg vs. controls 33±6mmHg, p>.05). We found no between-group differences in heart rate, respiratory rate, or estimated minute ventilation during HG or PEI.

Given that miR-22 directly targets genes involved in the control of metabolism and obesity, we investigated whether miR-22 contributes to metabolic alterations induced by obesity. We observed increased expression of miR-22, decreased expression of Sirt1, and alterations in the expression of adipogenesis-related genes in a mouse model of obesity and a human hepatocyte cell line. We identified that miR-22 and the 3'-UTR of Sirt1 are complementary. Mutation of the complementary fragment abolishes the ability of miR-22 to regulate the Sirt1 gene. Compared to bare ZnCr-LDH, the SC-WOC hybrid assembly exhibits a threefold enhancement in photocatalytic activity, which is maintained for 6 h under photocatalytic conditions at pH 7. This study investigates the relations between cognitive ability and two distinct dimensions of perfectionism and addresses the role of parental antecedents of perfectionism in adolescents at different levels of cognitive ability.

In a community sample of 3,168 adolescents and their parents, cognitive ability was assessed and perfectionism levels and parenting practices were surveyed.

Adolescents higher in cognitive ability reported higher levels of Personal Standards (i.e., setting ambitious objectives) but lower levels of Concern over Mistakes (i.e., worrying excessively about mistakes). Parental criticism, high parental expectations, and conditionally regarding parenting were associated positively with Concern over Mistakes, and high parental expectations were related positively to Personal Standards. These associations were generally independent of adolescents' cognitive ability. Parents of adolescents higher in cognitive ability relied less on parenting practices associated with the development of perfectionism.

Although low-genetic biodiversity is expected in these regions, the introduction of domestic and synanthropic mammals may contribute to the wider diversity of leptospiral strains in insular settings. This study proposes a large-scale seroepidemiological investigation of Leptospira infection in animals from Fernando de Noronha archipelago and describes the characterization of the first leptospiral strain ever isolated from an insular setting in Brazil. A total of 1,265 blood samples from domestic (n = 682), synanthropic (n = 133) and wild (n = 450) animals were collected between 2007 and 2014, totalling 12 species. The presence of anti-Leptospira spp. antibodies was investigated by the microscopic agglutination test (MAT), and kidney samples from 20 synanthropic rodents were collected for the isolation of Leptospira spp. The leptospires recovered were further characterized by serogrouping with polyclonal antibodies, whole-genome sequencing and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). The MAT results revealed the presence of agglutinins in 90 samples (7.1%) and the most frequently found serogroup was Icterohaemorrhagiae (n = 57) in practically all species included. Viable leptospires were recovered from one brown rat, and characterization revealed that the isolate belongs to L. interrogans serogroup Pyrogenes. To assess the decision-making process in fit and frail older breast cancer patients.

Breast cancer patients aged ≥70years who completed the G8 frailty screening tool (G8) were included in this retrospective study. Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics were collected, as well as information from geriatric assessment (GA). Treatment decisions were compared with national guidelines.

Of 177 patients, 85 patients were considered fit by the G8 (G8-fit) and 92 patients frail (G8-frail). All G8-fit and 53 G8-frail were proposed for surgery. GA was performed in 34 patients (9 G8-fit; 25 G8-frail) of whom 16 (2 G8-fit;14 G8-frail) were considered frail (GA-frail). 28 out of these 34 patients were considered fit for surgery (including 11 GA-frail); their impairments were unlikely to interfere with surgery or life expectancy.
