Two canonical variables that accounted for 60.21% and 39.79% of the total variation were revealed. Linear discriminant functions for differentiation of the three chicken genotypes were also developed. 87.39% of normal feather, 76.58% of naked neck and 100% of frizzle feather chickens were correctly assigned into their genotypes. The longest Mahalanobis distance was observed between normal feather and frizzle feather chickens. The discriminant functions developed in this study could be used to differentiate the three genotypes of LCN using antibody response to Newcastle disease and heat tolerance. The tick Rhipicephalus australis, formerly known as Rhipicephalus microplus, is the most economically important ectoparasite of livestock in New Caledonia, affecting cattle health and production. Decades of control attempts based on the application of chemical acaricides have exerted a strong selective pressure on R. australis populations, some of which have evolved resistance to these treatments. Research to develop integrated tick control programs is now focused on decreasing applications of chemicals. This study reports the implementation of a method of pasture and herd management involving minimal strategic use of long-acting acaricides, here defined as those having substantial efficacy against larvae for several weeks. Diverse parameters concerning the utilization of long-acting acaricides in association with pasture and herd management on 21 New Caledonian farms over a 5-year period were analyzed to optimize their strategic use. Longer larval acaricidal effect was achieved with a commercial pour-on formulation of fluazuron than with a commercial injectable (subcutaneous) formulation containing 3.15% ivermectin. Pasture and herd management allowed an increase in the delay between a long-lasting acaricide application and the subsequent acaricide treatment from 11.0 weeks to 17.7 weeks. However, if ticks were detected and reported by producers on the day of a long-acting acaricide application, the delay to the following treatment was reduced from 18.5 weeks to 11.2 weeks. The impact of a long-acting acaricide treatment on larval populations in pastures was greatest with a stocking rate of 5 animals per hectare grazing during 1 week. These results provide science-based evidence to cattle producers for adaptive integrated tick management in order to delay the development of acaricide resistance.Physics Nobel Prize winner P.W. Anderson famously wrote in 1995 "The deepest and most interesting unsolved problem in solid state theory is probably the theory of the nature of the glass and the glass transition". Despite much effort in the intervening years, the problem is still unsolved. We contribute a novel mathematical approach to this problem. The main new ingredient is finite dimension, a recently introduced "fractal" dimension defined only for finite sets. Our methods sharply distinguish the glass transition temperature and give hints as to the structural changes that occur in the transition.Bovine coronavirus (BCoV) can be spread by animal activity. Although cattle farming is widespread in Turkey, there are few studies of BCoV. The aim of this study was to evaluate the current situation regarding BCoV in Turkey. This is the first study reporting the full-length nucleotide sequences of BCoV spike (S) genes in Turkey. Samples were collected from 119 cattle with clinical signs of respiratory (n = 78) or digestive tract (n = 41) infection on different farms located across widely separated provinces in Turkey. The samples were screened for BCoV using RT-nested PCR targeting the N gene, which identified BCoV in 35 samples (9 faeces and 26 nasal discharge). RT-PCR analysis of the S gene produced partial/full-length S gene sequences from 11 samples (8 faeces and 3 nasal discharge samples). A phylogenetic tree of the S gene sequences was made to analyze the genetic relationships among BCoVs from Turkey and other countries. The results showed that the local strains present in faeces and nasal discharge samples had many different amino acid changes. Some of these changes were shown in previous studies to be critical for tropism. This study provides new data on BCoV in Turkey that will be valuable in designing effective vaccine approaches and control strategies.

Warthin tumour (WT) management options comprise surgery or follow-up. The purpose of this study was to asses our experience with the follow-up strategy in selected patients with an ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) showing WT.

We performed a retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with WT using FNAB between 1.1.2006 and 31.12.2019. Patients were divided into three groups according to the therapeutic approach-immediate surgery, follow-up or surgery and follow-up.

323 patients were diagnosed with WT and met the study's inclusion criteria (154 women, 47.7% and 169 men, 52.3%). Adriamycin 192 patients were operated right after the diagnosis, 109 patients were observed with their first detected tumour and 22 patients had parotid WT surgery and were in the wait-and-scan protocol with a contralateral tumour, recurrence or both. The growth rate (GR) of observed WT was highly variable (mean GR 1.0mm/year (5%), median GR 0.8mm (9%), range -19.7 to +20.0mm/year). From 131 patients in the follow-up group, 19 patients underwent surgery and definitive histology revealed 17 WTs and 2 adenocarcinomas. However, these 2 patients had changes in sonographic findings at their next control. The mean observation time was 44.7months (range 12-138months) in patients followed exclusively at our institution and 50.9months (range 12-110months) in patients observed in cooperation with an otorhinolaryngologist at the patients' place of residence.

Ultrasound-guided FNAB is an accurate and simple method in WT diagnosis and based on its result a follow-up strategy can be chosen for selected patients with WT.

MIS-C can lead to myocardial dysfunction, heart failure, and multiorgan failure; the primary finding is hyperinflammation. Endothelial dysfunction has not been evaluated in patients with MIS-C. We investigated endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness parameters in patients with MIS-C. The study included 38 pediatric patients (20 males and 18 females aged 4-17 years, mean age 8.89 years) with MIS-C. Thirty-eight age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were enrolled as the control group. Systolic and diastolic ventricular measurements and systolic and diastolic measurements of ascending aorta diameter were performed by M-mode echocardiography. Endothelial dysfunction was evaluated using flow-mediated dilation by measuring the brachial artery diameter with a high-resolution probe. The MIS-C group had lower flow-mediated dilation than did the controls. The MIS-C group had decreased aortic strain and aortic distensibility values and correlations between decreased flow-mediated dilation and reduced aortic strain, aortic distensibility, and reduced ejection fraction.
