C2H2 zinc finger proteins (C2H2 ZFPs) play vital roles in shaping many aspects of plant growth and adaptation to the environment. Plant genomes harbor hundreds of C2H2 ZFPs, which compose one of the most important and largest transcription factor families in higher plants. Although the C2H2 ZFP gene family has been reported in several plant species, it has not been described in the model leguminous species Medicago truncatula.

In this study, we identified 218 C2H2 type ZFPs with 337 individual C2H2 motifs in M. truncatula. We showed that the high rate of local gene duplication has significantly contributed to the expansion of the C2H2 gene family in M. truncatula. The identified ZFPs exhibit high variation in motif arrangement and expression pattern, suggesting that the short C2H2 zinc finger motif has been adopted as a scaffold by numerous transcription factors with different functions to recognize cis-elements. By analyzing the public expression datasets and quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR), we identified several C2H2 ZFPs that are specifically expressed in certain tissues, such as the nodule, seed, and flower.

Pollen formation and development is important for crop fertility and is a key factor for hybrid development. Previous reports have indicated that Arabidopsis thaliana TAPETUM DETERMINANT1 (AtTPD1) and its rice (Oryza sativa) homolog, OsTPD1-like (OsTDL1A), are required for cell specialization and greatly affect pollen formation and development. Little is known about the role of the TPD1 homolog in banana pollen development.

Here, we report the identification and characterization of TPD1 homologs in diploid banana (Musa itinerans) and examine their role in pollen development by overexpressing the closest homolog, MaTPD1A. MaTPD1A exhibits high expression in stamen and localizes in the plasma membrane. MaTPD1A-overexpressing plants produce no pollen grains and smaller and seedless fruit compared to wild-type plants. Transcriptome analysis showed that in plant hormone, starch and sucrose metabolism, and linolenic acid metabolism-related pathways were affected by overexpression of MaTPD1A, and the expression of several key regulators, such as PTC1 and MYB80, which are known to affect anther development, is affected in MaTPD1A-overexpressing lines.

There are a variety of causes of left ventricular aneurysm, but it is rarely due to a disturbance in intraventricular hemodynamics. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of ventricular aneurysm at the left ventricular apex caused by an abnormal left ventricular muscle bundle.

We report two cases of patients with congenital abnormal left ventricular muscle bundles which caused disturbances in intraventricular hemodynamics. This process eventually led to a left ventricular aneurysm at the apex of the heart. In both cases, transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) indicated ventricular aneurysm formation at the apex of the left ventricle. There were also abnormal muscular bundles connecting the ventricular septum and the posterior wall of the left ventricle. The only differences between these two cases were the comorbidities and severity of symptoms.

Iatrogenic acute aortic dissection (AD) is an extremely rare but devastating complication during cardiac catheterization. It can be treated conservatively if it develops in a retrograde form or manifests as an intramural hematoma (IMH) with a micro-intimal tear in the absence of instability. However, only a few reports exist on its natural course and long-term outcomes.

A 78-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with acute chest discomfort. Elective cardiac catheterization was performed via the right radial artery. The postoperative analgesic effect of transmuscular quadratus lumborum block (QLB-TM) in patients following lower abdominal surgeries has been identified; however, the efficacy of QLB using the lateral approach (QLB-L) is still in debate. Therefore, this retrospective study was conducted to investigate the effect of a single-shot block with QLB-L on postoperative analgesia for patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL).

The medical information of the patients undergoing PCNL was retrieved from the electronic charter system (Medisystem, Suzhou, China) in our Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital during the period of Jan/2019 to Jun/2019. Among the total of 57 patients, there are 17, 18, and 22 patients subjected to QLB-L, QLB-TM, or routine treatment, respectively. The primary observational parameter was to assess postoperative pain with visual analog scales (VAS) at rest 30 min after extubation, 24 h, and 48 h after surgery, respectively.
