Submitral aneurysm (SMA) is a rare anomaly that typically occurs adjacent to the posterior leaflet of the mitral valve. We report the case of a ten-year-old female child presenting with SMA with anteroinferior extension, differing from the more typical posterior and lateral extension. Successful surgical management is described.Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global health challenge leading to various detrimental health outcomes. Chinese women are a vulnerable population often overlooked in IPV research. Guided by the social-ecological model, this systematic review aims to synthesize literature on the risk and protective factors for IPV among Chinese women. A comprehensive search was conducted in nine major English and Chinese databases for articles with data collected since 2006 on adult Chinese women, leading to 29 papers in the final analysis. Risk and protective factors associated with IPV identified in this review include factors at the individual level such as demographics (e.g., a younger age, unplanned pregnancy, abortion, having children, and migration), socioeconomic status (e.g., income and partners' education level), attitudinal factors (e.g., attitudes justifying IPV and traditional beliefs about gender roles), behavioral factors (e.g., alcohol use of women, partners' alcohol use and frequency, and partners' high frequency of gambling), adverse childhood experiences (e.g., witnessed violence in childhood), and other personal characteristics (e.g., chronic illness and good health status). Factors at the relationship level include conflicts, power in intimate relationships, and social capital (e.g., the size of social networks, network participation of women and their partners, and social control). Community-level factors related to geographic locations were also explored while no factors were identified at the societal level. None of the included studies examined the intersections of factors within the same level or across different levels. Triapine concentration Recommendations for future research, practice, and policy are also discussed.Children living with medical complexities are a growing population in the United States. Supportive pediatric health care team members are arguably the single most important factor in helping mothers manage their child's multifaceted condition. To better understand what constitutes helpful support from health care team members, we interviewed 17 mothers affiliated with a pediatric palliative care program at a large Midwestern U.S. hospital. Using Charmaz's approach to grounded theory analysis, we found that mothers desired a collaborative partnership with their child's health care team. However, the development of this partnership was contingent upon team members' effective use of informational, emotional, and network support. We identified two specific strategies that qualified each of these three different types of helpful supportive communication. These strategies may be implemented into training and educational programs for health care professionals to improve their communication skills.
To elucidate the epidemiology, anatomical, presentation, classification, pathology, investigative modalities, management and prognosis of primary angiosarcoma of the aorta.
A systematic review of literature from the database inception to January 2021 in PubMed and Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane Library in accordance to PRISMA was conducted. Retrieval and extraction was performed by two independent reviewers. The hierarchy of the evidence was assessed through the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence Checklist. Data were subjected to pooled prevalence analysis, Kaplan-Meier survival and test of probability using log-rank analysis. This review is registered with International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews RD42021231314.
82 studies with
= 123 cases met the inclusion criterion. Abdominal (45%) aorta was the commonest anatomical site with female predominance in ascending aorta (41) and aortic arch (21). The longest survival was in the ascending aorta and the shortest in the abdominalatherosclerotic lesions are extremely suggestive of PA of the aorta at 5th and 6th decades of life.Medical assistance in dying (MAID) processes are complex, shaped by legislated directives, and influenced by the discourse regarding its emergence as an end-of-life care option. Physicians and nurse practitioners (NPs) are essential in determining the patient's eligibility and conducting MAID provisions. This research explored the exogenous factors influencing physicians' and NPs' non-participation in formal MAID processes. Using an interpretive description methodology, we interviewed 17 physicians and 18 NPs in Saskatchewan, Canada, who identified as non-participators in MAID. The non-participation factors were related to (a) the health care system they work within, (b) the communities where they live, (c) their current practice context, (d) how their participation choices were visible to others, (e) the risks of participation to themselves and others, (f) time factors, (g) the impact of participation on the patient's family, and (h) patient-HCP relationship, and contextual factors. Practice considerations to support the evolving social contact of care were identified.
An association between child sexual abuse (CSA) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been documented. However, the temporal relationship between these problems and the roles of trauma-related symptoms or other forms of maltreatment remain unclear. This review aims to synthesize available research on CSA and ADHD, assess the methodological quality of the available research, and recommend future areas of inquiry.
Studies were searched in five databases including Medline and PsycINFO. Following a title and abstract screening, 151 full texts were reviewed and 28 were included. Inclusion criteria were sexual abuse occurred before 18 years old, published quantitative studies documenting at least a bivariate association between CSA and ADHD, and published in the past 5 years for dissertations/theses, in French or English. The methodological quality of studies was systematically assessed.
Most studies identified a significant association between CSA and ADHD; most studies conceptualized CSA as a precursor of ADHD, but only one study had a longitudinal design.
