Inflammatory bowel disease, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, is characterized by chronic inflammation that could be a risk factor for extraintestinal cancer. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether inflammatory bowel disease is related to the risk of lower urinary tract tumors.
A systematical research was performed on various medical databases including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase and Web of Science from inception to April 2020. Data were independently extracted by two reviewers. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine criteria were used to assess the quality of included articles. The analysis was completed by STATA version 14.2.
Six hundred and twelve of records were initially identified and 16 studies were included in the final analysis. In general, inflammatory bowel disease patients were not at increased risk of prostate cancer, bladder cancer and male genital cancer. In the subgroup analysis, Crohn's disease patients seemed to havepatients seemed to have a higher risk of prostate cancer. ulcerative colitis patients in East Asian countries have significantly increased prostate cancer risk.
Active surveillance or watchful waiting (AS/WW) is increasingly being used as an alternative strategy to radical prostatectomy or radiation therapy for appropriately selected patients with prostate cancer (PCa). However, the prognosis of low-risk and selective intermediate-risk PCa patients after AS/WW is poorly defined. In this study we reviewed the patients registered in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program to establish a competing risk nomogram for the prediction of prostate cancer-specific mortality (PCSM).
The information of patients undergoing AS/WW in the SEER program from 2004 to 2015 was obtained. All patients were ISUP (International Society of Urological Pathology) grade 1 or 2 PCa and also fulfilled the National Comprehensive Cancer Network's definition of low-risk PCa [prostate specific antigen (PSA) <10 ng/mL and cT2aN0M0 or less)]. selleck chemicals A competing risk nomogram was used to analyze the association of tumor characteristics with PCSM and non-PCSM among the PCa patients subgroups of patients with a higher risk of PCSM and potential candidates for AS/WW.
Overall, the prognosis was favorable for the low- and selective intermediate-risk PCa patients with AS/WW. The competing risk nomogram yielded a good performance in identifying subgroups of patients with a higher risk of PCSM and potential candidates for AS/WW.
The study aims to perform a meta-analysis of published trials and evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture on chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) by symptom score reduction, optimal acupuncture session, and most frequently used acupoints.
A literature search was performed for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing efficacy of acupuncture with sham acupuncture or standard medication on CP/CPPS. The primary outcome was the reduction of National Institute of Health-Chronic Prostatitis Index (NIH-CPSI) total score and its subscales. The optimal acupuncture session to reach its clinical efficacy and most common compatibility rule of acupoints were also evaluated.
Ten trials involving 770 participants were included. Meta-analysis showed compared with sham acupuncture, acupuncture yielded significant reduction in NIH-CPSI total score [weighted mean difference (WMD) 7.28, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 5.69-8.86), and provided better pain relief (WMD 3.57, 95% CI 2.07-5.08), urinary strategy for CP/CPPS is the future trend.
Acupuncture has promising efficacy for patients with CP/CPPS, especially category IIIB, in aspects of relieving pain and urinary symptoms and improving the QOL. Acupuncture may serve as a standard treatment option when available, and a tailored comprehensive treatment strategy for CP/CPPS is the future trend.
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of holmium laser enucleation of prostate (HoLEP) by using en-bloc and bladder neck preservation technique on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and assess the influence of this procedure on urinary and sexual functional outcomes.
A total of 704 patients with BPH undergoing HoLEP were retrospectively analysed. Amongst them, 213 who met the sexual function assessment criteria were further assessed the influence of the technique on sexual functional outcomes.
The mean operative time, resected prostate weight and mean estimated blood loss were 69.3±14.8 min, 53.4±17.6 g and 62.1±23.7 mL, respectively. The mean duration of catheterization after surgery and mean hospital stay were 2.1±1 and 5.4±3.6 days, respectively. The post-void residual volume, maximum urinary flow rate, international prostate symptom score and quality of life score were all significantly improved postoperation (P<0.05). Amongst the 213 patients with normal antegrade ejaculation before surgery, postoperative international index of erectile function scores slightly improved, although the difference was insignificant (P>0.05). The difference in the Erection Hardness Grading Scale before and after surgery was statistically insignificant (P>0.05). A total of 25 (11.7%) patients had retrograde ejaculation after surgery.
HoLEP by an en-bloc and bladder neck preservation technique can obtain good functional outcome with small injury and high efficiency, especially for patients who need to preserve normal sexual function and anterograde ejaculation.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of real-time surgical navigation by three-dimensional (3D) virtual reconstruction models in robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RALP).
Between November 2018 and January 2020, 38 patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) who underwent RALP were retrospectively enrolled. The operations were assisted in real time by 3D models in 16 patients, while 22 patients underwent surgery without navigation. Based on whether patients had a prior intervention history, crossing vessels or congenital deformities, we further divided them into the "complicated UPJO" cohort and the "regular UPJO" cohort for subgroup analysis. The demographic characteristics, intraoperative parameters, perioperative data and follow-up data were recorded and compared between the groups.
All of the procedures were successfully performed without open or laparoscopic conversion. The mean dissection time to the UPJ was shorter in the navigation group than in the non-navigation group, both in the whole cohort (15.
