77%) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) value (60%), confirmed low genome relatedness. AS2863619 Nitrogen metabolism pathway was found in the genome of strain HBU206404T which haboured nitrate reductase and nitrite reductase. Other phenotypic characteristics, such as ability to hydrolyze substances, enzyme activity, acid production from carbon source, etc., could also distinguish strain HBU206404T from Actinokineospora alba KCTC 19294T. On the basis of genetic and phenotypic evidence, strain HBU206404T represents a novel species of the genus Actinokineospora, for which the name Actinokineospora xionganensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HBU206404T (= MCCC 1K04412T = KCTC 49404T).Extreme natural habitats like halophytes, marsh land, and marine environment are suitable arena for chemical ecology between plants and microbes having environmental impact. Endophytes are an ecofriendly option for the promotion of plant growth and to serve as sustainable resource of novel bioactive natural products. The present study, focusing on biodiversity of bacterial endophytes from Salicornia brachiata, led to isolation of around 336 bacterial endophytes. Phylogenetic analysis of 63 endophytes revealed 13 genera with 27 different species, belonging to 3 major groups Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria. 30% endophytic isolates belonging to various genera demonstrated broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activities against a panel of human, plant, and aquatic infectious agents. An endophytic isolate Bacillus amyloliquefaciens 5NPA-1, exhibited strong in-vitro antibacterial activity against human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus and phytopathogen Xanthomonas campestris. Investigation through LC-MS/MS-based molecular networking and bioactivity-guided purification led to the identification of three bioactive compounds belonging to lipopeptide class based on 1H-, 13C-NMR and MS analysis. To our knowledge, this is the first report studying bacterial endophytic biodiversity of Salicornia brachiata and the isolation of bioactive compounds from its endophyte. Overall, the present study provides insights into the diversity of endophytes associated with the plants from the extreme environment as a rich source of metabolites with remarkable agricultural applications and therapeutic properties.

Patients with glioblastoma (GBM) or brain metastases (MET) and atrial fibrillation (AF) might be at an increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) due to anticoagulation (AC). Our aim was to assess this risk.

Our institution's database (from 2005 to 2017) was screened for patients with GBM or MET and AF with an indication for AC according to their CHA

DS

VASc stroke risk score (≥ 2). Required follow-up was at least 3months. AC was either performed with heparins, phenprocoumon or non-Vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants. Applying the propensity score approach, patient cohorts (matched according to primary tumor, age, sex) were generated (GBM [or MET] with AF ± AC, GBM [or MET] without AF/AC, no GBM [or MET] but AF on AC). ICH was defined as clinical deterioration caused by new blood on imaging. A log rank test was performed to compare the risk for ICH between the three groups.

In total, 104 patients were identified of which 49 with GBM (37% on AC) and 37 with MET (46% on AC) were successfully matched. Median follow up was 8.6 and 7.2months, respectively. ICH occurred in 10.2% of GBM + AF and 12.2% GBM-AF, whereas 8% of patients with AF on AC suffered ICH (p = 0.076). 13.5% of patients with MET + AF had ICHs, in the controls it was 16% for MET-AF and 8% for AF on AC (p = 0.11).

AC did not seem to influence the incidence of ICH in patients with glioblastoma or brain metastases within follow up of just under 9months.

AC did not seem to influence the incidence of ICH in patients with glioblastoma or brain metastases within follow up of just under 9 months.Genetic mapping of seed germination traits has been performed with many plant species. In tobacco, however, investigations are rare. In the present study, a bi-parental mapping population consisting of 118 doubled haploid lines and derived from a cross between 'Beinhart-1000' and 'Hicks' was investigated. Four germination-related traits, total germination (TG), normal germination (NG), time to reach 50% of total germination (T50), and the area under the curve after 200 h of germination (AUC) were considered by examining seeds either untreated or after a moderate controlled deterioration (CD). Quantitative trait loci were found for all traits distributed on 11 out of the 24 linkage groups. It was demonstrated that, as in many other species, germination-related traits are very complex and under polygenic control.Recent data collected on adult patients with vestibular loss (VL) tend to demonstrate possible cognitive impairments in visuospatial working memory, mental rotation, selective attention, and space orientation. However, the neuropsychological profile of children with VL remains largely under-investigated in the scientific literature. Although previous research has shown that children with VL may experience some degree of delayed motor development, it is not yet clear if VL could also lead to specific delayed cognitive development. In this study, we will present the development and validation of a new tablet-based computerized test battery (VSAD) that evaluates visuospatial working memory, mental rotation, selective attention, and space orientation abilities. Thirteen children with VL and 54 average-age matched healthy children performed the VSAD and classical paper-and-pencil neuropsychological tasks twice within a 1-month interval. Our results demonstrated a good concurrent validity with strong correlations between the visuospatial working memory, mental rotation, and space orientation tests of the VSAD and classical tasks. Test-retest reliability was also supported through good intra-class coefficients. However, the test of selective attention showed no concurrent validity with the matched classical task. The discriminant validity of the VSAD was partially supported for visuospatial working memory and mental rotation performance accuracy. The VSAD shows good concurrent validity and reliability for measuring visuospatial working memory, mental rotation, and space orientation in children with VL. Future studies are needed to extend discriminant validity with other populations.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease characterized by microangiopathy. Peripheral arterial disease, increasingly studied during SSc, is responsible for digital ulcers, associated with a high risk of amputation. The aim of our study was to assess the frequency of lower limb arterial impairment in SSc patients by measuring ankle-brachial index (ABI), toe pressure (TP), and toe-brachial index (TBI).

Systemic sclerosis patients were included prospectively during 1 year in Tenon and Saint-Antoine Hospitals, Paris. Clinical and biological data were recorded. For each patient, ABI, TP, and TBI were measured and an arterial duplex ultrasonography was prescribed in case of abnormal results.

Eighty-six patients were included (94% women, median age 62 years). Only 24% of them had no lower limb hemodynamic vascular abnormalities; 44% had an isolated microvascular abnormality (normal ABI and TBI<0.75); 31% had at least a macrovascular injury associated or not with microvascular impairment (abnoor microvascular impairment and that 28% had vascular stiffness. In SSc patients, ABI is not an accurate tool to detect lower limb arterial disease, likely due to underlying micro- and macrovascular changes. Key Points • The presence of lower limb macro-and/or microvascular involvement was detected in 76% of SSc patients. • In SSc patients, ABI is not an accurate tool to detect lower limb arterial disease, likely due to underlying microvascular changes and frequent arterial stiffness.

Considering the pathologic significance of inflammation and oxidative stress in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as well as the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hypolipidemic effects of melatonin, the current research is designed to investigate the effect of melatonin supplementation on disease activity, oxidative stress, inflammatory, and metabolic parameters in RA patients.

In this randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 64 RA cases were selected and randomly assigned into 2 groups to take 6 mg/day melatonin or placebo for 12 weeks. Before and after trial, serum malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), lipid profile, fasting blood sugar (FBS), and insulin levels were measured and disease activity was determined by disease activity score-28 (DAS-28).

Compared to the baseline, melatonin significantly decreased DAS-28, ESR, MDA, and LDL-C by 50.5%, 59%, 97%, and 13%, respectively (P<0.001) and significantly increased TAC by 89% (P=0.013) and es in DAS-28, ESR, TAC, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-C, FBS, and insulin levels compared to the placebo group.

Although melatonin supplementation had no beneficial effects on DAS-28, it could lower serum MDA and LDL-C levels. It seems that melatonin supplementation should not be used as a replace for routine drugs prescribed in RA treatment. Further investigations should be conducted to fully understand the effects of melatonin in RA. Key Points • Compared to baseline, melatonin significantly decreased DAS-28, ESR, MDA, and LDL-C and significantly increased TAC and HDL-C. • After treatment, considerable differences were only seen between melatonin and placebo groups in serum MDA and LDL-C concentrations. • After treatment, there were no significant changes in DAS-28, ESR, TAC, triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-C, FBS, and insulin levels compared to the placebo group.

To estimate the prevalence of Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) among children in 2017 in Changdu of Tibet.

We adopted a four-step recruitment to include children aged 7-12 years from seven identified historically endemic counties in Changdu. Posterior-anterior radiographs of right hand and wrist were taken and were graded at four sites (metaphysis, epiphysis, and bony end of phalanges and metacarpal and carpal bones). Two trained researchers independently read the films. Inter-rater reliability was assessed using weighted Kappa and percentage agreement. We fitted logistic regression model to examine the association of age, sex, and altitude of residential village with prevalence of KBD. We examined association between site involvement and severity of KBD using chi-square test.

We recruited 13,573 children (mean age = 9.3 years, 48.40% girls) with a response rate of 95.81%. The overall prevalence of radiographic KBD was 0.26%. Luolong County had the highest prevalence (0.69%), followed by Bianba (0.26%), Basu (u compared with previous census data, suggesting the effectiveness of preventative measures. Key Points • In this study, 13,573 Tibetan children were taken X-ray films of their hands and wrists. • The prevalence of radiographic KBD among children aged 7-12 years was low in Changdu of Tibet. • The preventative measures against KBD launched by Chinese government were effective in decreasing new onsets of KBD among Tibetan children.
