Sulfide bond incorporated organosilica particles have been broadly applied to versatile biomedical applications, wherein the uniformity of particles and the sulfur content significantly dictate the ultimate performance. Unfortunately, due to the difficulty in controlling the chemical behavior of organosilica precursors in a sol-gel process, challenges still exist in developing a facile and green synthetic approach to fabricate organosilica particles with good dispersity and high sulfur content. In the present work, by extending the classic Stöber method, a surfactant-free synthesis of monodispersed organosilica particles with pure sulfide-bridged silsesquioxane framework chemistry is reported for the first time. By simply tailoring the ethanol-to-water ratio and amount of catalyst, the size of disulfide-bridged organosilica particles can be tuned from ~0.50 to ~1.20 µm. Moreover, this approach can be employed to prepare tetra-sulfide bridged silica nanoparticles with an extremely high sulfur content of 30.7 wt% and negligible cytotoxicity. Notably, taking advantage of this extended Stöber method, both hydrophilic (methylene blue) and hydrophobic (curcumin) molecules can be in-situ encapsulated into tetra-sulfide bridged silica nanoparticles, whose glutathione-triggered biodegradability is also demonstrated. Collectively, the innovative synthetic approach and organosilica particles developed in this work are expected to open up new opportunities in hybrid materials fabrication and bio-applications.In this research the molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)-based nano/microparticles and coatings were synthesized through a simple, one-step hydrothermal approach without any other additives. Composition, structure, and morphology of the synthesized MoS2-based materials were investigated using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) techniques. The fabricated materials exhibited relatively small (Δθ = 18.7 ± 2.5⁰) contact angle and prominent hydrophilic properties, which are attributable to sulfur-enriched MoS2 composite as evidenced by simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) coupled with mass spectrometric (MS) analysis of evolving gaseous species (TG/DTA-MS) analysis. Such nanostructures exhibit a better adhesion of biomolecules, thus facilitating the interaction between them, as confirmed by highly effective antimicrobial action. To document the diagnostic yields of whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) screening for asymptomatic individuals by using a classification system that categorizes the findings by clinical relevance and provides a flowchart for further investigations, and to determine the influence of WB-MRI findings on clinical decision-making.

In this institutional review board-approved study, a retrospective review of individuals who underwent WB-MRI between 2009 and 2020 was conducted, and asymptomatic participants who underwent non-contrast-enhanced comprehensive WB-MRI for screening were enrolled. Participants were classified into four categories based on WB-MRI findings, and those with relevant findings (i.e., categories 3 and 4) were referred for further diagnostic workup. The participants' medical records were investigated, and interviews were conducted to reveal false-negative findings and identify the number of WB-MRI-triggered treatments.

Individuals who perceived themselves as too heavy (52 %) experienced higher body-related shame and guilt compared to those who perceived themselves as about right. Internalized weight stigma mediated these associations in women but not men, such that perceiving oneself as too heavy was associated with higher internalized weight stigma, which was associated with higher body-related shame and guilt in women. Results underscore the importance of internalized weight stigma as a potential target for intervention among women of diverse weight statuses who are prone to experiencing body-related shame and guilt.

It is common for adults with opioid use disorder (OUD) to misuse additional substances, and these individuals may be particularly at risk for adverse events, including mortality. Less is known about how continued receipt of prescription opioids or risk of adverse events (e.g., suicidality, overdose, poisoning) differs for people with co-occurring OUD and additional substance use disorders (SUDs).

We conducted a retrospective study using IBM® MarketScan® Multi-State Medicaid Database enrollment/claims data. We used logistic regression to measure the association between sample characteristics and our dependent variables. The sample consisted of non-Medicare-eligible adults aged 18-64 years who were continuously enrolled in Medicaid in 2016-2017 with an OUD diagnosis on at least one claim in 2016.

Adults with OUD and a co-occurring SUD were more likely than adults with OUD only to have an opioid-related poisoning event (odds ratio [OR] = 1.488, p = .0052), all-cause poisoning (OR = 1.756, p < .0001), or suicidal ideation (OR = 1.796, p < .0001) but not to receive ongoing opioid prescriptions (OR = 0.973, p = .1626). Adverse events varied by OUD-SUD combination. For example, adults with OUD and cocaine use disorder had the highest odds of all-cause (OR = 2.393, p < .0001) or opioid-related (OR = 1.890, p = .0027) poisoning among those with a drug-specific diagnosis and were most likely to be diagnosed with suicidal ideation (OR = 2.465, p < .0001).

Among different kinds of therapeutic innovative approaches, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and low-temperature atmospheric pressure cold plasma (ionized gas) have been recently tested to improve this regenerative process. To optimize wound healing the present study intended to combine, for the first time, these two novel approaches in a large size animal wound healing model with the aim of assessing the putative dual beneficial effects. Based on clinical, histopathological, and molecular results a synergistic action in a second intention healing wound in sheep has been observed. Experimental wounds treated with cold plasma and MSCs showed a slower but more effective healing compared to the single treatment, as observed in previous studies. The combined treatment improved the correct development of skin appendages and structural proteins of the dermis showing the potential of the dual combination as a safe and effective tool for skin regeneration in the veterinary clinical field.
