Groups C and D exhibited the minimum displacements of the fractured bone block, the stress distribution within the safe range and less deformation of the plates. In addition, double plates fixation and bi-cortical screws exceeded single plate fixation and mono-cortical screws in stability, respectively, while an L-shape plate exhibited no significant differences in the stress dispersion and the displacement reduction.

Double plates fixation of the extracapsular condylar fracture was a safe and stable way and bi-cortical screws should be selected as far as possible.

Employing a structure-based approach, a novel series of indole-2-carbonyl piperazine urea derivatives were designed and synthesized as FAAH inhibitors for the treatment of pain-depression comorbidity. Among them, compound 4i emerged as the most potent inhibitor (IC50 = 0.12 μM) with fine selectivity versus CES2, ABHD6, MAGL and the cannabinoid receptor, which also displayed superior metabolic stability in human liver microsome and an adequate pharmacokinetic profile in rodents. Treatment of depressed rats with 4i demonstrated favorable antidepressant-like effects not only by increasing the level of BDNF in the hippocampus but also by restraining the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons. Also, 4i effectively suppressed the LPS-induced neuroinflammation in vitro. Moreover, 4i exhibited potent analgesic activity, which indicated its promising therapeutical application for pain and depression. These meaningful results shed light on FAAH inhibitors as promising pain-depression comorbidity therapeutics.Natural products with diverse structures and significant biological activities are essential sources of drug lead compounds, and play an important role in the research and development of innovative drugs. Cage-like compounds have various structures and are widely distributed in nature, especially caged xanthones isolated from Garcinia genus, paeoniflorin and its derivatives isolated from Paeonia lactiflora Pall, tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its derivatives, and so on. In recent years, the development and utilization of cage-like compounds have been a research hotspot in chemistry, biology and other fields due to their special structures and remarkable biological activities. In this review, we mainly summarized the cage-like compounds with various structures found and isolated from natural drugs since 1956, summarized its broad biological activities, and introduced the progress in the biosynthesis of some compounds, so as to provide a reference for the discovery of more novel compounds, and the development and application of innovative drugs. This article further investigates the suitability of an inkless method to obtain and maintain exemplar fingerprint recordings on thermal paper; in this case, stored for 1.5 years at different temperatures. Inkless impressions were (re-)examined by optical means via two independent methods. First, an automated metric from the FBI's Universal Latent Workstation (ULW) was adapted (i.e., BlueGreen color-coded maps) to evaluate visual differences among inkless fingerprint sets with respect to storage time, temperature, relative humidity, and biological sex. Additionally, a conventional assessment system was applied, a categorical quality score (QS) metric that ranges on a grading scale from 1 to 4. Results revealed that storage time (72 weeks), as well as a colder temperature (~ 3 ºC) and lower relative humidity (~ 12 %), had little impact on the preservation of ridge clarity when compared to freshly deposited counterparts. A biological sex effect was again detected, but its influence was not significant under certain conditions. ABT-199 Despite minor visual differences, the ridge clarity of the inkless impressions remained stable for the duration of the experiment. The stability and durability of the proposed inkless method were proven, becoming a potential alternative to the conventional black ink method. The correct definition of time of death often represents a key to solving judicial cases. One of the methods for determination of the time interval since death is at present the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of hypostases. However, the simple observation of the degree and fixation of hypostases is based on nonobjective parameters, and is therefore characterized by an intrinsic variability that can compromise their reliability. The purpose of the present study was to define an objective and standardizable method that allows estimation of time since death with good approximation. To achieve this, the instrument used was based on spectrophotometry, to analyze only the hemoglobin contribution to skin color, while excluding the role of melanin. This made it possible to analyze a hypostatic area, with a numerical value defined as a measure of the hemoglobin content before and after application of standardized pressure for a defined time interval. The study was conducted on 100 cadavers in various wards. The variables considered in the study were Hb-pre (mean hemoglobin measure before weight force application); Hb-post (mean hemoglobin measure after weight force application), ΔHb (change in mean hemoglobin measures from before to after weight force application); and red% Hb (percentage reduction in hemoglobin after weight force application, compared to the mean measure of hemoglobin before weight force application). The analysis showed statistically significant correlations between red% Hb in the skin area analyzed and time from death to examination. This provided a mathematical formula to estimate time since death with good reliability ( ± 4 h, 50 min).Extracts from medicinal plants are generally obtained by conventional methods like percolation and maceration. Owing to limitations of traditional methods and to meet the rising demand of extracts, the development of new green approaches is need of hour. In the present research, we have developed an ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) method for the Nardostachys jatamansi (NJ) D. Don, DC roots and optimized the extraction parameters for possible improved extract yield. A multivariate optimization strategy using the Centre Composite Design coupled with response surface methodology was applied. A numerical optimization approach accurately predicted the extraction conditions (sonication time ∼ 20 min, ethanol ∼ 70 % and a liquid/solid ratio of about 211). Scanning electron microscopy of the plant samples after UAE also indicated the cavitation effect due to sound waves. GC-MS analysis of the optimized ultrasound extract (OUNJ) confirmed improvement in the concentration of various secondary metabolites like jatamansone (91.8 % increase), spirojatamol (42.3 % increase), globulol (130.4 % increase), sitosterol (84.6 % increase) as compared to the soxhlet extract (SXNJ). Different anti-oxidant parameters (DPPH, Glutathione, Catalase SOD and NO) were also significantly altered (p less then 0.05) in the optimized extracts. The IC50 to inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity (AChE) in vitro and its concentration in brain homogenates were significantly (p less then 0.05) improved by OUNJ extract as compared to the SXNJ ones. To conclude, we can say that established optimized conditions for UAE of N. jatamansi roots not only reduce the extraction time but also improved the pharmacological potential of the extracts.

This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of intensive follow-up after curative intent treatment for five common solid tumours, in terms of survival and treatment of recurrences.

A systematic literature search was conducted, identifying comparative studies on follow-up for colorectal, lung, breast, upper gastro-intestinal and prostate cancer. Outcomes of interest were overall survival (OS), cancer specific survival (CSS), and treatment of recurrences. Random effects meta-analyses were conducted, with particular focus on studies at low risk of bias.

Fourteen out of 63 studies were considered to be at low risk of bias (8 colorectal, 4 breast, 0 lung, 1 upper gastro-intestinal, 1 prostate). These studies showed no significant impact of intensive follow-up on OS (hazard ratio, 95% confidence interval) for colorectal (0.99; 0.92-1.06), breast 1.06 (0.92-1.23), upper gastro-intestinal (0.78; 0.51-1.19) and prostate cancer (1.00; 0.86-1.16). No impact on CSS (hazard ratio, 95% confidence interval) is available.

Family members significantly value the professional and humane support that medical teams provide in the process of caring for patients with advanced diseases. Communication is currently changing, making it of interest to explore technology's possible influence on communication and on the care relationship. It remains unknown whether this can vary based on increased use of technology in patient care. Using communication technologies can facilitate recognition of professional support through the expression of gratitude aimed at healthcare professionals. The objective here is to describe expressions of gratitude sent via WhatsApp messages by patients who receive treatment from a palliative care team and their relatives.

A generic qualitative methodology was used. The palliative care service studied used WhatsApp in the patient/family-professional relationship. A content analysis of 130 WhatsApp messages sent to the professionals and containing expressions of gratitude was carried out. Two researchers inducthat specify the aspects that family members most appreciate from the palliative care team, such as skills related to humane care and availability.

The use of communication technologies like WhatsApp can contribute to the perception of professionals' availability and closeness and become a facilitator of expressions of gratitude that specify the aspects that family members most appreciate from the palliative care team, such as skills related to humane care and availability.

To explore health care professionals' usage and perceptions of telemedicine, including their experience, evaluation and attitude towards telemedicine, and the factors affecting their satisfaction, using intention, and willingness to recommend telemedicine.

A nationwide and web-based survey was conducted. Statistical charts were used to describe the usage and perceptions of telemedicine by health care professionals. And the ordinal logistic regression was applied to analyze the influencing factors.

A total of 1349 valid questionnaires were collected. In the survey, 74.0% of Chinese health care professionals used telemedicine once a week. The average duration of participating in telemedicine services lasted mainly 11-30min (64.0%). More than half (52.5%) of participants' hospitals adopted fee subsidy measures, followed by the award for excellent evaluation (36.4%). The majority (92.5%) believed that telemedicine could reduce patient referral rates. More than 95% were satisfied with telemedicine, were willing to continue, and would recommend telemedicine for patients, respectively.
