Other potential explanatory mechanisms were acknowledged, including hybridization and transmission mode. This study makes a valuable contribution to a growing body of literature examining IHPC. This has implications not only for pathogen spillover to humans and domestic animals, but more generally for thinking about the mechanisms that underlie patterns of host and pathogen genetic associations. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.PURPOSE To explore the effect of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on rural disparities in oral health services utilization based on disability status. see more METHODS Comparing the 2011-2013 with the 2014-2016 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, the study estimated the impacts of ACA on the likelihood of having preventive checkup and utilization of dental treatments in adults older than 18. FINDINGS The sample consists of 216,184 noninstitutionalized adults with 14.5% living in rural areas. There was a slight improvement in the receipt of oral health services after ACA, but the improvement was not statistically significant. Disability remains a barrier to receiving preventive oral health checkups, and living in rural areas is a barrier for both utilization of preventive checkups and dental treatments. CONCLUSIONS Unmet needs for preventive checkups may result in unnecessary, costly dental treatments. More strategies are needed to reduce the disparities in oral health services. © 2020 National Rural Health Association.BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to analyze the degree of obesity and its associations with age, gender, inflammation, an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and liver function in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. METHODS A total of 874 consecutive adult Caucasian T2DM patients from outpatient diabetic clinic were included in the study. The relative fat mass (RFM) and body mass index (BMI) were used as obesity markers. Serum creatinine and cystatin C were used for the GFR estimation. Serum high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) was used as the indicator of inflammation. RESULTS The median, interquartile range (IQR) of RFM in females was higher than that in males (44.8 (42.3-47.2) % vs 31.3 (28.8-34.1) %, respectively; P less then .0001). The median (IQR) of BMI in females was no higher than that in males (30 (27-34) kg/m2 vs 30 (27-34), respectively; P = .5152). The obesity prevalence was 99% in males and 98% in females according to RFM. BMI recognized obesity in 51% males and 53% females. RFM was positively associated with hsCRP in both males (rs = .296, P less then .0001) and females (rs = .445, P less then .0001). ALT was positively correlated with eGFRcys in both males (rs = .379, P less then .0001) and females (rs = .308, P less then .0001). CONCLUSION The RFM equation leads to higher obesity prevalence compared to BMI. Women have higher RFM compared to men. The kidney function was positively correlated with ALT serum concentrations. © 2020 The Authors. Few studies have characterized echocardiographic (Echo) transitions from the indeterminate Chagas disease (ChD) form to CCM. The objective of this study was to identify the best cutoffs in multiple Echo parameters, speckle tracking, and N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) to distinguish patients without CCM (stage A) vs patients with myocardial involvement (stages B, C, or D). METHODS Cross-sectional study conducted in 273 consecutive patients with different CCM stages. Echo parameters, NT-proBNP, and other clinical variables were measured. Logistic regression models (dichotomized in stage A versus B, C, and D) adjusted for age, sex, body mass index, and NT-proBNP were performed. RESULTS Left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV-GLS), mitral flow E velocity, LV mass index, and NT-proBNP identified early changes that differentiated stages A vs B, C, and D. The LV-GLS with a cutoff -20.5% showed the highest performance (AUC 92.99%; accuracy 84.56% and negative predictive value (NPV) 88.82%), which improved when it was additionally adjusted by NT-proBNP with a cutoff -20.0% (AUC 94.30%; accuracy 88.42% and NPV 93.55%). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that Echo parameters and NT-proBNP may be used as diagnostic variables in detecting the onset of myocardial alterations in patients with the indeterminate stage of ChD. LV-GLS was the more accurate measurement regarding stage A differentiation from the stages B, C, and D. Prospective longitudinal studies are needed to validate these findings. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.A novel series of 2-arylbenzothiazoles 9, 10, and 12 were designed and synthesized as VEGFR-2/FGFR-1/PDGFR-β multiangiokinase inhibitors targeting breast cancer. Structural elongation of the known 2-phenylbenzothiazole scaffold (type I protein kinase inhibitor [PKI]), was carried out to afford series of type II PKIs 9, 10, and 12. Compounds 9d, 9f, 9i, and 9k exhibited potent multikinase inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 0.19, 0.18, 0.17, and 0.13 μM, respectively, against VEGFR-2; IC50 values of 0.28, 0.37, 0.19, and 0.27 μM, respectively, against FGFR-1; and IC50 values of 0.07, 0.04, 0.08, and 0.14 μM, respectively, against PDGFR-β. Moreover, the synthesized benzothiazoles demonstrated promising cytotoxic activity against the MCF-7 cell line. The most potent benzothiazoles 9d and 9i exhibited IC50 values of 7.83 and 6.58 μM, respectively, on the MCF-7 cell line in comparison to sorafenib (III), which showed IC50 = 4.33 μM. Additionally, 9d and 9i showed VEGFR-2 inhibitory activity in MCF-7 cells of 81% and 83% when compared with sorafenib (III), which showed 88% inhibition. Molecular docking of the designed compounds in the VEGFR-2 and FGFR-1 active sites showed the accommodation of the 2-phenylbenzothiazole moiety, as reported, in the hinge region of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK)-binding site, while the amide moiety is involved in hydrogen bond interactions with the key amino acids in the gate area; this in turn directs the aryl group to the hydrophobic allosteric back pocket of the RTKs in a type II-like binding mode. The synthesized benzothiazoles showed satisfactory ADME properties for further optimization in drug discovery. © 2020 Deutsche Pharmazeutische Gesellschaft.
