Tick-borne viruses and bacteria that can cause diseases of animals and humans have high impact and are of concern as significant threats to human health worldwide. In this research, we screened microorganisms related to those pathogens in ticks from dogs, a cat, and a cow. The techniques used were PCR, DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis to detect and classify the microorganisms [Flavivirus, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV), Phlebovirus, Coronavirus, Canine Parvovirus, eubacteria, Coxiella and Rickettsia]. A novel virus named Phlebovirus-like-AYUT and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteria were found in one individual tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus s.l.) from a dog. All tick samples were negative for Rickettsia, while 9/21 (42.9 %) were positive for Coxiella bacteria. The novel virus "Phlebovirus-like-AYUT" (the name derives from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province in Thailand) was resolved by phylogenetic analysis of the partial L segment by maximum likelihood (ML) method using MEGA X. The phylogenetic tree also indicated that the virus was related to Phlebovirus in brown dog ticks reported in Trinidad and Tobago. Glumetinib In contrast, Phlebovirus-like-AYUT was in a distinct clade from Lihan tick Phlebovirus-Thailand (LTPV), which was previously found in cow ticks, Rhipicephalus microplus, in Nan Province, Thailand. This study reports the Stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacterium with a novel Phlebovirus-like-AYUT in a brown dog tick. The roles of this bacterium in a virus-positive tick or in viral transmission from animal host requires further investigation.The objective of the study is to develop a quick and simultaneous analysis system for the dissolution of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and the formulation excipient in samples from the dissolution test by UHPLC using the charged aerosol and PDA detectors. The combination of two columns for size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) and the equipment of the charged aerosol detector allowed the quick determination of various water-soluble polymers. Three model sustained-release tablets, each containing a different API of different water solubility (propranolol (soluble), ranitidine (very soluble), and cilostazol (practically insoluble)), were prepared from polyethylene oxide (PEO) matrix to verify the applicability and utility of the analysis system. The dissolution of propranolol was the same as that of PEO, indicating that the diffusion rate of propranolol was consistent with the erosion rate of the PEO and that the dissolution of PRO was based on diffusion. Ranitidine was released faster than PEO, suggesting that ranitidine was diffused through the gel layer of PEO early upon contact with the dissolution medium and before PEO gel erosion. Cilostazol was released slower as compared to PEO, indicating that cilostazol dissolution was based on the polymer's erosion. These results suggested that the analysis system developed in this study is a precise and valid tool to study the dissolution behavior of both APIs and excipients. Optimization of the SEC column for the appropriate separation of APIs and excipients makes the analysis system more efficient and convenient to study the drug release mechanisms and to design formulations.

Although tremendous progress has been achieved, there remains an understudied area of approximately 2.06 billion m

of potential snail habitats. This area could be further increased by annual flooding. Therefore, an understanding of population genetics of snails in these areas may be useful for future monitoring and control activities.

We sampled snails from Hexian (HX), Zongyang (ZY) and Shitai (ST) in Anhui (schistosomiasis transmission control), and from Hengtang (HT), Taicang (TC), Dongsan (DS) and Xisan (XS) in Jiangsu (schistosomiasis transmission interrupted), downstream of Anhui. ST, DS and XS are classified as hilly and mountainous areas, and HX, ZY, TC and HT as lake and marshland areas. The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene were sequenced. Out of 115 snails analyzed, 29 haplotypes were identified. We observed 56 (8.72%) polymorphic sites consisting of 51 transitions, four transversions and one multiple mutational change. The overall haplotype and nucleotide diversity were 0.899 and 0.01569, respectively. Snail populations in Anhui had higher genetic diversity than in Jiangsu. 73.32% of total variation was distributed among sites and 26.68% within sites. Snails were significantly separated according to eco-epidemiological settings in both network and phylogenetic analyses.

Our results could provide important guidance towards assessing coevolutionary interactions of snails with S. japonicum, as well as for future molluscan host monitoring and control activities.

Germin-like proteins (GLPs) are ubiquitous plant proteins, which play significant role in plant responses against various abiotic stresses. However, the potential functions of GLPs in rice (Oryza sativa) against salt and drought stress are still unclear.

In this study, transcriptional variation of eight OsGLP genes (OsGLP3-6, OsGLP4-1, OsGLP8-4, OsGLP8-7, OsGLP8-10, OsGLP8-11 and OsGLP8-12) was analyzed in leaves and roots of two economically important Indica rice cultivars, KS282 and Super Basmati, under salt and drought stress at early seedling stage. The relative expression analysis from qRT-PCR indicated the highest increase in expression of OsGLP3-6 in leaves and roots of both rice varieties with a significantly higher expression in KS282. Moreover, relative change in expression of OsGLP8-7, OsGLP8-10 and OsGLP8-11 under salt stress and OsGLP8-7 under drought stress was also commonly higher in leaves and roots of KS282 as compared to Super Basmati. Whereas, OsGLP3-7 and OsGLP8-12 after salt stress an and provide useful information for the further in-depth research on their regulatory mechanisms in response to these stress conditions.The aim of this study was to estimate the molecular prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum and the co-infection by both Apicomplexan parasites in uterus tissues of cows. PCR was used to detect T. gondii and N. caninum DNA in uterus from 140 uteri of slaughtered cows in the regional slaughterhouse of Béja (Northwest Tunisia). Positive PCR products were sequenced and used for the phylogenetic analysis. The overall molecular prevalence of T. gondii and N. caninum in cows' uterus was 5 and 15.57%, respectively. Co-infection prevalence by the two parasites was estimated to be 2.85%. Risk factors including the age categories significantly affected the molecular prevalence of T. gondii and N. caninum in cows' uterus. The highest molecular prevalence of T. gondii (11.5 ± 3.1) and N. caninum (21.1 ± 11.1; p = 0.038) was observed in cows aged of more than 8 years. There were no differences depicted according to cow's breeds and localities. Comparison of the partial sequences of the ITS1 gene revealed 100% similarity among our N. caninum sequence (MW136256) and those deposited in GenBank. The T. gondii sequence described in this study (MW260335) was 99.4-100% homologous to T. gondii sequences published in the GenBank.To the best of our knowledge, this is the first molecular evidence of N. caninum and T. gondii co-infection in naturally infected cows in North Africa. Therefore, in the biomedical computational methods where the model wall is considered flexible, the viscoelastic properties of the texture must be considered correctly.Hypertrophic pachymeningitis (HP) is a rare neurological disorder with focal or diffuse thickening of the dura mater, which usually causes headache, cranial neuropathies, seizures, and motor or sensory impairments. The development of HP is attributed to an immune-mediated mechanism, and some autoimmune diseases have been implicated in the development of HP. Herein, we describe the case of a 73-year-old woman with persistent headache ascribable to HP, which developed approximately 3 years after a diagnosis of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN). She was treated with high-dose corticosteroid and cyclophosphamide that resulted in immediate disappearance of headache and improved radiological findings of thickened dura mater. In addition, she was subsequently administered methotrexate, ultimately resulting in maintenance of remission and regular reduction of prednisolone. In our review of published English articles, only two cases of HP in patients with PAN have been reported to date, suggesting that HP is a rare complication in PAN. However, it should be recognized that HP may develop as a neurological involvement related to PAN.Magnetoencephalography (MEG) has been combined with machine learning techniques, to recognize the Alzheimer's disease (AD), one of the most common forms of dementia. However, most of the previous studies are limited to binary classification and do not fully utilize the two available MEG modalities (extracted using magnetometer and gradiometer sensors). AD consists of several stages of progression, this study addresses this limitation by using both magnetometer and gradiometer data to discriminate between participants with AD, AD-related mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and healthy control (HC) participants in the form of a three-class classification problem. A series of wavelet-based biomarkers are developed and evaluated, which concurrently leverage the spatial, frequency and time domain characteristics of the signal. A bimodal recognition system based on an improved score-level fusion approach is proposed to reinforce interpretation of the brain activity captured by magnetometers and gradiometers. In this preliminary study, it was found that the markers derived from gradiometer tend to outperform the magnetometer-based markers.
