Daily news refers to media outlets which publish current affairs, politics and social issues on a regular basis. This may include national and international news as well as government policies updates as well as scientific and technological breakthroughs. Sports coverage and entertainment may also be included along with opinion pieces by columnists or editorial writers if applicable.

Since 1919, the New York Daily News has been the pioneering tabloid newspaper in America. Morena Reaching its peak circulation of 2.4 million copies daily in 1947 - becoming one of the nation's largest publications - the paper became known for sensationalist pictorial coverage of crime and scandal as well as its comic strips and other entertaining features.

The Illustrated Daily News (1927-1929), New York Daily Mirror (1929-1940) and Daily News (1940-1953). As one of the first tabloid newspapers, The News made tabloid journalism popular and thus established what has become today's newspaper industry.

In the 1970s, The News began moving away from an overtly conservative stance towards more centrist perspectives, as evidenced by its slogans such as: "New York Eyes and Ears; Honest Voice" and "The most New York paper you can get".

Between 1976 and 1995, The Daily News had its headquarters at 220 East 42nd Street - an art deco structure designed by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood that became known as The Daily News Building - an official city and national landmark that housed former News subsidiary WPIX-TV as well as New York Mets teams.

After its golden years in the 1940s, The News experienced declining circulation numbers. Struggling against radio and television as new media outlets gained in popularity, financial difficulties resulted from union demands for overtime pay and other benefits; by 1982 it was losing $1 million each month. Tribune Company (later renamed Tronc) attempted to close it but was prevented from doing so when editor in chief Jim Rich and most of his staff went on strike against it.
