Before forming Toto the group, its members performed sessions for Steely Dan, [3] Seals and Crofts,[4and Boz Scaggs and Sonny and Cher. Guitarist Steve Lukather was the band's lead singer.

About Toto

Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.

In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure, but they rebound with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour helped them become a household name around the world.

After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is a departure from the ballads on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.

During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to change their name and record a new album with an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.

In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begin an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Music

Toto is a rock group from the United States that enjoyed their greatest success in the 1980s. Founded by seasoned session musicians Toto has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

Toto was the first album released by toto in 1978. It was a huge success that helped the band gain international fame. Since then, the group has released fourteen albums that have all been a hit.

In 1984, Toto wrote their first, and to this date only, movie score for the film Dune. It was a massive undertaking, and the entire group was required to participate. The album that followed, Kingdom of Desire, was another record that was a huge success. After a world tour, drummer Bobby Kimball left the band and was replaced by drummer Fergie Frederiksen of Le Roux. The band continued to push forward with their fifth album, Isolation. The album contained a variety of hits, such as "Stranger in Town".

After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and went on hiatus. This gave the individual members of the band a chance to pursue solo projects. In 1996, the band was reformed to tour and make an album. It was the first time that the original members took to the stage together for over a decade.

The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time that all original members of Toto were performing together. After that, the group disbanded once again. Toto returned for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise money for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Tours

Toto has been one of the most adored rock bands for over three decades, having scored huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line,"" and their 8X-platinum hit, "Africa." With a wide range of influences, ranging from progressive rock to world rhythms, soul and jazz, the group continues to delight fans with their acoustic arena rock.

The band was hit with several setbacks during their later years, despite their acclaim. In 2002, keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes were forced to take a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck took over however the band was not the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, a string lineup changes and a string of disappointing releases prompted Toto to end their tour for a few years. However, the group resumed touring in 2012 with the release of their album 40 Trips Around the Sun.

The album was a return to form for the band, and the tour accompanied by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the addition of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had joined the group.

Toto's music is the same today as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, gaining new fans with every new generation. Their success has made Toto an everlasting fixture in pop culture. Their live performances are always filled with energy and excitement.
