Intestinal alterations which were observed include shortening of villi, necrosis, detachment and fusion of villi and extreme goblet cells formation. It is concluded from the present study that high level of ZnO NPs, ZnO and mixed solution has a strong tendency to alter hematological parameters, histological architecture, therefore, the indiscriminate use of ZnO NPs and ZnO can subsidize in reducing the population of Oreochromis mossambicus in natural water bodies. This study investigated the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of three Spirulina extracts (methanol, acetone, and hexane) and the biological selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) fabricated by Bacillus subtilis AL43. The results showed that Spirulina extracts exhibited antimicrobial activity against tested pathogens. Besides, Spirulina extracts significantly scavenged ABTS and DPPH radicals in a dose-dependent manner. The methanolic extract had higher total phenolic content, antimicrobial activity, and antioxidant activity than other extracts. The selenium nanoparticles were synthesized by Bacillus subtilis AL43 under aerobic conditions and were characterized as spherical, crystalline with a size of 65.23 nm and a net negative charge of -22.7. We evidenced that SeNPs possess considerable antimicrobial activity against three gram-positive, three gram-negative bacteria, and three strains from both Candida sp. and Aspergillus sp. Moreover, SeNPs were able to scavenge ABTS and DPPH radicals in a dose-dependent manner. An association was found between the total phenolic content of Spirulina and SeNPs and their biological activities. Our results indicate that Spirulina and SeNPs with significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activities seem to be successful candidates for safe and reliable medical applications.Xanthones C-glycosides are plants secondary metabolites with diverse biological activities. Among the C-glycoside xanthones, the mangiferin (MF) is of widespread occurrence in plants while isomangiferin (IsoMF) is not very common. For the present study mangiferin (MF) and isomangiferin (IsoMF) were isolated from Dryopteris ramosa. The antibacterial potential of MF and IsoMF was evaluated by using agar well diffusion method while cytotoxic properties of MF and IsoMF were assessed by brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT). The antibacterial potential of MF and IsoMF increases in dose dependent manner. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) indicated strong antibacterial potential of MF against Salmonella setubal (125 µg/mL) and Bacillus subtilis (125 µg/mL) while MF showed weak antibacterial potential against Escherichia coli (500 µg/mL). On the other hand the IsoMF showed better antibacterial potential against all the tested strain including Escherichia coli (MIC = 250 µg/mL). The MF and IsoMF showed poor cytotoxicity towards Brine shrimp nauplii as indicated by their LD50 (969.77 ± 0.67 and 768.92 ± 0.81 µg/mL respectively). The present study has highlighted the antibacterial potential of MF and IsoMF. Further evaluation of these two isomeric compounds may prove to be the future remedies for various bacterial infections and other human ailments.Medicinal plants have significant contribution in pharmaceutical industries being producers of compounds utilized as precursors for drug development. A plant of Lamiaceae family; Pseudocaryopteris foetida had not been investigated for its biomedical potential. Current research was aimed to investigate phytochemical analysis, cytotoxic potential and antioxidant activity of crude methanolic extract and fractions of Pseudocaryopteris foetida (leaves). The preliminary phytochemical analysis of crude methanolic extracts and fractions of Pseudocaryopteris foetida revealed that plant is rich in phenolic and flavonoid classes of secondary metabolites while presence of tannin was observed only in crude methanolic extract. The cytotoxicity was determined using brine shrimp lethality test. Different concentrations (25, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 µg/mL) of crude methanolic extract and fractions exhibited dose dependent cytotoxicity. However, The LD50 for all the extracts was more than 200 µg/mL indicating weak cytotoxic potential of Pseudocaryopteris foetida. The antioxidant capabilities of crude methanolic extract and fraction of Pseudocaryopteris foetida were analyzed by in vitro bio assays including DPPH, ABTS, Reducing power and phosphomolybdate antioxidant assays using ascorbic acid as standard. The crude methanolic extract showed IC50 (256.38 ± 0.6 and 314.95 ± 1.1 µg/mL) for DPPH and ABTS respectively, while total antioxidant capacity was calculated as 55.79 ± 0.5 µg/mL for crude methanolic extract of Pseudocaryopteris foetida while ascorbic acid indicated total antioxidant capacity of 71.89 ± 2.3 µg/mL. Study concluded that leaves of Pseudocaryopteris foetida were the rich source of antioxidant phytochemicals. Based on preliminary investigations further research should be focused to isolate bioactive phytochemicals as leading source of clinical medicines in future.Climate change is a dramatic crisis that has left severe impacts on viticulture. Phenological events over 41 years and annual climatic anomalies' data over these years in Al Ahsa region were procured. Annual temperature and wind speed anomalies had the strongest influence on all phenological events of the varieties White and Red Hassaoui, starting from the beginning of budburst until harvest. Moreover, the average yield of both varieties decreased significantly by 319.4 and 317 kg ha-1 respectively between 1997 and 2019 in comparison with the interval of years 1979-1996. Earlier phenological events were positively correlated with annual temperature anomaly and negatively correlated with annual wind speed anomaly. The latter shortened the dates of occurrence of beginning and full veraison. Yield decreased with higher annual temperature, wind speed and total cloud cover anomalies, and lower annual total precipitation anomaly. Higher annual temperature and wind speed anomalies were correlated with a shorter period between beginning of budburst to beginning of veraison (P3). Shorter periods between beginning and full veraison (P6) and beginning of veraison and harvest (P7) of Red Hassaoui were positively correlated with annual precipitable water anomaly. Results suggest a high level of adaptation of both tested varieties to changing climate conditions in Al Ahsa, though irrigating vines after harvest on a weekly basis would help overcoming the minimal reduction in yield which was caused by the shortage in precipitation. The stinging catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch, 1974) is a commercially important fish species in Asia. This is an important food fish as is enriched with high amounts of protein, iron and calcium. The current research demonstrates the population structure, size at sexual maturity, spawning- and peak-spawning season and fecundity of H. fossilis in an important wetland ecosystem - Gajner Beel in northwestern Bangladesh with an aim of its sustainable conservation through induced breeding and aquaculture practices. A total of 426 stinging catfish captured from the Gajner Beel through monthly sampling from January to December 2019 used in the study. Total length (TL), standard length (SL) and body weight (BW) of individual fishes were measured. The size ranges were with 6.70-24.10 cm TL, 1.37-83.94 g BW. selleck compound Gonads were removed carefully through ventral dissection and weighted. Lm was 14.02, 13.5, 13.0 and 15.0 cm based on maximum length (Lmax ), TL vs. GSI (%), TL vs. SL and logistic model, respectively. Monthly variations of GSI and maturation stages were confirmed in April to August as spawning season and June as peak spawning month. Fulton's condition factor (KF ) was found to be with significant relations with GSI values. Fecundity was 1,730 to 23,870 and significantly correlated with both TL and BW. Temperature has been increasing 0.029 °C/year with the falling of rainfall at 2.96 mm/year in the study area. Environmental factors -Temperature, rainfall, dissolved oxygen and pH were found to be significantly correlated with GSI. We found the optimal range of temperature (29-31 °C), rainfall (350-380 mm), dissolved oxygen (5.0-6.0 mg/l) and pH (7.1-7.5) for spawning of H. fossilis. The paper recommended the policy guidelines to pave the ways of the aquaculture, conservation and management of H. fossilis in the changing eco-climatic events through specific management measures. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia thrives with great plant diversity, including rare plants of the family Asphodelaceae that have multiple benefits and are still being studied. Aloe shadensis is one of these plants that must be preserved and documented in its natural environment. The most appropriate molecular approach currently approved for documentation is the sequencing of some genomic markers. The current study is the first to use genomic markers to record this rare plant. In this study, the plastid genes matK (Maturase K), rbcL (Ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase large subunit), and the nuclear region ITS (Internal transcribed spacer) were used to reveal their efficiency in identifying the plant under study. This study is the first to deal with this plant and document it using these genetic markers. The study showed a promising result concerning identifying the sequence of the matK gene and ITS region, while the rbcL gene did not give a good indicator through the used primers. The obtained sequences of the matK gene and the ITS region were determined through two different sets of primers in each case then deposited in GenBank. The evolutionary relatedness of Aloe shadensis was established with the different species of Aloe. The study showed that the closest species is Aloe vera with a similarity of more than 99 %. The study concludes with the possibility of using these genes to correctly identify, distinguish and document the species of Aloe shadensis.Spirulina is a microalga and its phenolic compound is affected by growth mediums. In this study, Artificial intelligence (AI) based models, namely the Adaptive-Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Multilayer perceptron (MLP) models, and Step-Wise-Linear Regression (SWLR) were used to predict total phenolic compounds (TPC) of the spirulina algae. Spirulina productivity (P), extraction yield (EY), total flavonoids (TF), percent of flavonoid (%F) and percent of phenols (%P) are considered as input variables with the corresponding TPC as an output variable. From the result, TPC has a high positive correlation with the input variables with R = 0.99999. Also, the models showed that the ANFIS and SWLR gives superior result in the testing phase and increased its accuracy by 2% compared to MLP model in the prediction of TPC.Around 40% of the total catch weight of fish is regarded as byproducts, consisting of skin, fins, bones, scales, viscera, etc. The utilization of these byproducts is important to increase their commercial values as well as to prevent environmental pollution. Meanwhile, nowadays, it is getting a global trend to provide foods and other industrial materials which have been accredited as halal products for Moslem communities. As a way of processing fish byproducts to meet the halal criteria, preparation of collagen and gelatin would be useful to fulfill the market demand. As a result of screening studies on fishery byproducts, fish skin has been found to be the good source for halal collagen and gelatin, which show satisfactory quality compared with those from bovine sources which could cause bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
