Experimental results indicate that the NAS-gate convolutional module can alleviate the object scale variation problem and the Capsule Attention network can help to avoid inaccurate localization. Next, we introduce NASGC-CapANet, which incorporates the two modules, i.e., a NAS-gate convolutional module and capsule attention module. Results of comparisons against state-of-the-art object detectors on the MS COCO val-2017 dataset demonstrate that NASGC-CapANet-based Faster R-CNN significantly outperforms the baseline Faster R-CNN with a ResNet-50 backbone and a ResNet-101 backbone by mAPs of 2.7% and 2.0%, respectively. Furthermore, the NASGC-CapANet-based Cascade R-CNN achieves a box mAP of 43.8% on the MS COCO test-dev dataset.Recanalization of inferior vena cava (IVC) with complete obstruction, old thrombosis or long segmental stenosis/obstruction (complicated IVC) via transfemoral access may fail in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). In this study, 34 consecutive patients with BCS underwent recanalization of complicated IVC occlusion via jugular-femoral venous (JFV) route establishment. BCS with complicated IVC was detected by reviewing preoperative color Doppler ultrasonography or computed tomography (CT) venography, and confirmed by intraoperative venography. Clinical data on technical success, complications, and follow-up outcomes were analyzed. Except for one patient received surgical repair of rupture IVC after recanalization, technical success of IVC recanalization was achieved in remaining 33 (97.1%) patients. No perioperative deaths was found. Three complications were observed during recanalization, for a complication rate of 8.8%. Bleeding of the femoral vein was observed in one patient, and two patients showed bleeding of IVC. The IVC lesion diameter and blood flow of the distal IVC increased significantly after the procedure. Twenty-four patients (77.4%) were clinically cured, and four patients (12.9%) showed clinical improvement. The 1-year, 3-year, 5-year primary patency rates were 85.9%, 76.4% and 70.0%, respectively. The 5-year secondary patency rate was 96.8%. There were three deaths during follow up, and the 5-year survival rate was 90.0%. In conclusion, JFV route establishment and angioplasty for complicated IVC is safe and effective for patients with BCS after transfemoral access failure.Source time functions are essential observable quantities in seismology; they have been investigated via kinematic inversion analyses and compiled into databases. Given the numerous available results, some empirical laws on source time functions have been established, even though they are complicated and fluctuated time series. Theoretically, stochastic differential equations, including a random variable and white noise, are suitable for modeling complicated phenomena. In this study, we model source time functions as the convolution of two stochastic processes (known as Bessel processes). We mathematically and numerically demonstrate that this convolution satisfies some of the empirical laws of source time functions, including non-negativity, finite duration, unimodality, a growth rate proportional to [Formula see text], [Formula see text]-type spectra, and frequency distribution (i.e., the Gutenberg-Richter law). We interpret this convolution and speculate that the stress drop rate and fault impedance follow the same Bessel process.The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of surgeon-related factors on the surgical outcome of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and scleral buckling (SB) surgery on eyes with a rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). This was a nationwide, multicenter, observational study of the data in the Japan-RD Registry. Registered cases that had undergone surgery for a RRD by 128 accredited surgeons in 26 institutions were studied. Dihydroethidium in vitro The surgeon-related factors that significantly affected surgical success and visual outcomes of simple RRD treated by PPV or SB at 6 months postoperatively were analyzed and compared. Among 3446 registered cases, 2533 cases met the inclusion criteria with 1896 in the PPV group and 637 cases in the SB group. The median total number of lifetime cases was 150 and the rate of surgeries/year was 22. Multivariate regression analyses showed that the number and rate of surgeries/year were not significantly associated with the surgical outcome in the PPV group. However, surgeons with a higher average annual number of surgeries had significantly better surgical outcomes in the SB group (P = 0.038). Analyses of a nationwide registry showed that SB but not PPV surgeries require sufficient experience and case numbers to acquire and maintain skills to treat RRDs successfully.During 2020, the infection rate of COVID-19 has been investigated by many scholars from different research fields. In this context, reliable and interpretable forecasts of disease incidents are a vital tool for policymakers to manage healthcare resources. In this context, several experts have called for the necessity to account for human mobility to explain the spread of COVID-19. Existing approaches often apply standard models of the respective research field, frequently restricting modeling possibilities. For instance, most statistical or epidemiological models cannot directly incorporate unstructured data sources, including relational data that may encode human mobility. In contrast, machine learning approaches may yield better predictions by exploiting these data structures yet lack intuitive interpretability as they are often categorized as black-box models. We propose a combination of both research directions and present a multimodal learning framework that amalgamates statistical regression and machine learning models for predicting local COVID-19 cases in Germany. Results and implications the novel approach introduced enables the use of a richer collection of data types, including mobility flows and colocation probabilities, and yields the lowest mean squared error scores throughout the observational period in the reported benchmark study. The results corroborate that during most of the observational period more dispersed meeting patterns and a lower percentage of people staying put are associated with higher infection rates. Moreover, the analysis underpins the necessity of including mobility data and showcases the flexibility and interpretability of the proposed approach.Personal values are considered as guiding principles for humans' attitudes and behavior, what makes them an essential component of mental health. Although these notions are widely recognized, investigations in clinical samples examining the link between values and mental health are lacking. We assessed n = 209 patients with affective disorders, neurotic disorders, reaction to severe stress, and adjustment disorders and personality disorders and compared them to a stratified random sample (n = 209) drawn from the European Social Survey. Personal values were assessed using the Portraits Value Questionnaire. Severity of psychopathology was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory and the Brief Symptom Inventory. Clinical participants showed a higher preference for the values power, achievement and tradition/conformity and a lower preference for hedonism compared to controls. Patients exhibited more incompatible value patterns than controls. Across diagnostic groups, patients with neurotic disorders reported incompatible values most frequently. Value priorities and value conflicts may have the potential to contribute to a better understanding of current and future actions and experiences in patients with mental disorders.Skin broadly protects the human body from undesired factors such as ultraviolet radiation and abrasion and helps conserve body temperature and hydration. Skin's elasticity and its level of anisotropy are key to its aesthetics and function. Currently, however, treatment success is often speculative and subjective, and is rarely based on skin's elastic properties because there is no fast and accurate non-contact method for imaging of skin's elasticity. Here we report on a non-contact and non-invasive method to image and characterize skin's elastic anisotropy. It combines acoustic micro-tapping optical coherence elastography (AμT-OCE) with a nearly incompressible transversely isotropic (NITI) model to quantify skin's elastic moduli. In addition, skin sites were imaged with polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) to help define fiber orientation. Forearm skin areas were investigated in five volunteers. Results clearly demonstrate elastic anisotropy of skin in all subjects. AμT-OCE has distinct advantages over competitive techniques because it provides objective, quantitative characterization of skin's elasticity without contact, which opens the door for broad translation into clinical use. Finally, we demonstrate that a combination of multiple OCT modalities (structural OCT, OCT angiography, PS-OCT and AμT-OCE) may provide rich information about skin and can be used to characterize scar.Molecular hydrogen (H2) has emerged as a new therapeutic option in several diseases and is widely adopted by healthy people. However, molecular data to support therapeutic functions attributed to the biological activities of H2 remain elusive. Here, using transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches coupled with biochemistry and micro-CT technics, we evaluated the effect of long-term (6 months) and daily use of H2 on liver function. Rats exposed 2 h daily to H2 either by drinking HRW (H2 dissolved in H2O) or by breathing 4% H2 gas showed reduced lipogenesis and enhanced lipolysis in the liver, which was associated with apparent loss of visceral fat and brown adipose tissue together with a reduced level of serum lipids. Both transcripts and metabolites enriched in H2-treated rats revealed alteration of amino acid metabolism pathways and activation of purine nucleotides and carbohydrate biosynthesis pathways. Analysis of the interaction network of genes and metabolites and correlation tests revealed that NADP is the central regulator of H2 induced metabolic alterations in the liver, which was further confirmed by an increase in the level of components of metabolic pathways that require NADP as substrate. Evidence of immune response regulation activity was also observed in response to exposure to H2. This work is the first to provide metabolomic and transcriptomic data to uncover molecular targets for the effect of prolonged molecular hydrogen treatment on liver metabolism.The human DEAD-box protein 3 (DDX3) has been reported as a positive regulator and functions in the induction of type I interferon signaling. We elucidated the function of DDX3 in the positive regulation of IFNB production in non-pDC cells. We found that DDX3 regulates virus-induced activation of IFNB at the level of IRF-3. However, it does not affect conventional innate signaling, including IRF-3 phosphorylation, dimerization, or nuclear translocation of IRF-3, but has some downstream events after IRF-3 phosphorylation. Co-immunoprecipitation analyses revealed that DDX3 interacts with IRF-3 through its DNA-binding domain and promotes IRF-3-mediated IFNB promoter activation. DDX3 does not affect the formation of the IRF-3/p300/CBP complex. Instead, ChIP and EMSA assay revealed that DDX3 promotes the recruitment of IRF-3 and transcriptional co-activator p300/CBP to the IFNB promoter. The ATP binding pocket of DDX3 is involved in this association and is essential for the transcriptional activation. Taken together, our study demonstrates that DDX3 plays an important role in guiding a transcription factor complex formed by antiviral signaling to the target gene promoter.
