CS-NS is long circulating in the blood and conferred improved survival outcomes to tumor-bearing mice treated with light, compared to controls. These results demonstrate an MPN-integrated multistage nanosystem for improved solid tumor treatment.Biomass-derived carbon materials (BCMs) are encountering the most flourishing moment because of their versatile properties and wide potential applications. Numerous BCMs, including 0D carbon spheres and dots, 1D carbon fibers and tubes, 2D carbon sheets, 3D carbon aerogel, and hierarchical carbon materials have been prepared. At the same time, their structure-property relationship and applications have been widely studied. This paper aims to present a review on the recent advances in the controllable preparation and potential applications of BCMs, providing a reference for future work. First, the chemical compositions of typical biomass and their thermal degradation mechanisms are presented. Then, the typical preparation methods of BCMs are summarized and the relevant structural management rules are discussed. Besides, the strategies for improving the structural diversity of BCMs are also presented and discussed. Furthermore, the applications of BCMs in energy, sensing, environment, and other areas are reviewed. Finally, the remaining challenges and opportunities in the field of BCMs are discussed.Chrysanthemum Flos is the prestigious traditional Chinese medicinal material and the popular health drink. This article comprehensively evaluated the chemical constituents, antioxidant activity, and hepatoprotective effects of 25 common chrysanthemum varieties in China. Firstly, we analyzed the chemical compositions of water extracts of chrysanthemum using UPLC/Q-TOF-MS, and identified 29 chemical components. The results displayed that chrysanthemum was rich in chemical constituents, but there were significant differences in the contents of four phenolic acids and five flavonoids among different varieties, and the coefficient of variation (CVs) ranged from 35.96 % to 114.62 %. Then, the antioxidant activities of different chrysanthemums were investigated, respectively via 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assays. The spectrum-effect relationships between nine main components and antioxidant activitiysanthemums are potential resources as antioxidants, functional foods, and medicinal materials. Importantly, it may provide a scientific support for further development and utilization of chrysanthemum, and screen excellent varieties for different demands.

To investigate once-weekly (OW) semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA), in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in routine clinical practice.

The SURE Canada study was a multicenter, prospective, observational study. Adults with T2D and one or more documented HbA1c values 12 weeks or less before semaglutide initiation were enrolled. The primary endpoint was change in HbA1c from baseline to end of study (EOS; ~30 weeks). Secondary endpoints included change in body weight (BW), waist circumference and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and the proportion of patients achieving HbA1c of less than 7.0%, weight loss (WL) of 5% or higher, and a composite of HbA1c reduction of 1% or higher and WL of 3% or higher at EOS. Data were analysed and presented for patients on semaglutide at EOS overall and for the following baseline medication subgroups oral antihyperglycaemic drugs (OADs) only; GLP-1RA experienced; insulin ± OADs without GLP-1RA.

In total, 452 patients initiated semaglutide and 356 completed the study on treatment. For the 452 patients, mean baseline HbA1c was 8.1%; 86 (19.0%) patients had HbA1c of less than 7.0%. Mean dose of semaglutide at EOS was 0.76 ± 0.31 mg. Mean HbA1c was reduced by 0.9%-point (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.97; 0.78). Mean BW was reduced by 4.3kg (95% CI 4.79; 3.76). At EOS, 46.9% of patients achieved HbA1c of less than 7.0%, 40.9% achieved WL of 5% or higher and 24.1% achieved the composite endpoint. PROs improved from baseline to EOS. No new safety concerns were reported.

In SURE Canada, patients treated with OW semaglutide in routine clinical practice experienced clinically significant improvements in HbA1c, BW and other outcomes, supporting semaglutide use in routine clinical practice.

Here, we investigate whether inclusion of cGAMP within viral vaccine vectors enhances their immunogenicity. We immunise mice with virus-like particles (VLPs) containing HIV-1 Gag and the vesicular stomatitis virus envelope glycoprotein G (VSV-G). cGAMP loading of VLPs augments CD4 and CD8 T-cell responses. It also increases VLP- and VSV-G-specific antibody titres in a STING-dependent manner and enhances virus neutralisation, accompanied by increased numbers of T follicular helper cells. Vaccination with cGAMP-loaded VLPs containing haemagglutinin induces high titres of influenza A virus neutralising antibodies and confers protection upon virus challenge. This requires cGAMP inclusion within VLPs and is achieved at markedly reduced cGAMP doses. Similarly, cGAMP loading of VLPs containing the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein enhances Spike-specific antibody titres. cGAMP-loaded VLPs are thus an attractive platform for vaccination.Remodeling of the fibrous network in the skin interstitium is a crucial step in the process of skin wound healing. In the present study, a hierarchically structured xanthan gum-chitosan (XG-CS) composite hydrogel is developed as a skin wound healing material that responds to stress at wound sites by in situ self-organizing and self-repairing the interstitial fibrous network. The composite gel adheres tightly to the injured fibers forming an intact interstitial pathway, and thereby promotes the physiological function of fibroblasts. A software-based quantitative assessment is performed to evaluate the stress state at wound sites, which confirms that the composite gel adapted in vivo to wound stress and ultimately promotes fast wound healing. The results highlight the importance of interstitial reconstruction in tissue recovery, and will inspire novel strategies in regenerative medicine.

To summarize the evidence from systematic reviews (SRs) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy and safety of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors versus placebo or active comparators for type 2 diabetes mellitus.

We searched six databases between 2014 and 2021. We assessed the quality of evidence using Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR 2) and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation(GRADE) and summarized the main outcome results according to their evidence of benefit (PROSPERO ID CRD42019132431).

We included 46 SRs, comprising 175 RCTs and 136 096 participants. The results showed "clear evidence of benefit" in relation to myocardial infarction (odds ratio [OR]/hazard ratio [HR] 0.85 to 0.91); cardiovascular mortality (OR/HR 0.67 to 0.86); heart failure (OR/HR 0.64 to 0.69); albuminuria progression and composite renal outcome (relative risk [RR]/HR 0.55 to 0.63); glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) versus placebo (mean difference [MD]to assess urinary infections and amputation risk.

To identify the baseline demographic and clinical characteristics associated with diabetes-related distress (DRD) and factors associated with improvement in DRD after initiating use of the FreeStyle Libre (FSL) in people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

The study was performed using baseline and follow-up data from the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists nationwide audit of people with diabetes who initiated use of the FSL in the United Kingdom. DRD was assessed using the two-item diabetes-related distress scale (DDS; defined as the average of the two-item score ≥3). People living with T1D were categorized into two groups those with high DRD, defined as an average DDS score ≥3 and those with lower DRD, defined as a DDS score <3. We used a gradient-boosting machine-learning (GBM) model to identify the relative influence (RI) of baseline variables on average DDS score.

The study population consisted of 9159 patients, 96.6% of whom had T1D. The median (interquartile range [IQR]) age was 45.FSL was associated with improvement in DRD in people living with T1D.

In this large UK cohort of people living with T1D, diabetes distress was prevalent and associated with higher HbA1c, impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia and female gender. Improvement in glycaemic control and hypoglycaemia unawareness with the use of the FSL was associated with improvement in DRD in people living with T1D.

Calcific tendinopathy of the rotator cuff is a common cause of painful disability in the shoulder with unclear aetiology. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with calcific tendinopathy; however, large epidemiological data are lacking. Thus, we conducted a nationwide population-based matched cohort study to investigate the risk for calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder in diabetic patients.

The National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan was used to include 42915 patients newly diagnosed with DM between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2015 and randomly extract the data of 171660 individuals, as a matched control group. All individuals were followed-up until the development of calcific tendinopathy or the end of 2015.

Overall, 122 patients from the DM group (0.284%) developed calcific tendinopathy compared with 340 individuals from the non-DM group (0.198%). The Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that patients with DM had a higher risk of calcific tendinopathy since the eighth year of follow-up (log-rank test, P=.006). Cox proportional hazard regression revealed that the adjusted hazard ratio of calcific tendinopathy in diabetic patients to that in non-diabetic patients was 1.276 (95% confidence interval 1.037-1.571, P=.002). Moreover, the stratified analysis disclosed that DM was a strong independent risk factor for calcific tendinopathy irrespective of the existing comorbidities.

This study demonstrated that patients with DM had a 27% increased risk of developing calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder, 8years after initially being diagnosed with DM.
