Furthermore, Israeli Arab women were more likely to stay with their partners. Finally, the interaction of the expectation that concrete needs would be met × psychological violence made a significant contribution to leaving the relationship. The study emphasizes the need to expand the resources of domestically abused women and also highlights specific groups requiring special attention upon shelter entry Arab women, women who previously stayed in shelters, and women characterized by a lack of resources and a high degree of psychological violence. The critical political economy of health offers different explanations for the social causes of health and the social factors determining the distribution of these causes. However, the relational, post-anthropocentric and monist ontology of the new materialisms overcomes this complexity, while retaining a critical focus. In this perspective, the social, economic and political relations of capitalism act upon bodies and other matter in everyday events, rather than as 'social structures'. Using a conceptual toolkit of 'affect', 'assemblage', 'capacity' and 'micropolitics', the paper asks the question 'what does capitalism do?' The re-analysis of the social and economic relations of capitalism in terms of a production-assemblage and a market-assemblage reveals not only the workings of capitalist accumulation, but also how previously-unremarked more-than-human affects in these assemblages simultaneously produce uncertainty, waste and inequalities. This micropolitical economy of health is illustrated with examples from recent research, including a critical assessment of health inequalities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To assess whether socio-economic disparities exist on access to care, treatment options and outcomes among patients with renal mass amenable of surgical treatment within the universal healthcare system.

Data of consecutive patients submitted to partial nephrectomy (PN) or radical nephrectomy (RN) at our Institution between 2017 and 2020 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients were grouped according to their income level (low, intermediate, and high) based on the Indicator of Equivalent Economic Situation national criterion. Survival analysis was performed. Cox regression models were employed to analyse the impact of socio-economic variables on survival outcomes.

One thousand forty-two patients were included (841 PN and 201 RN). Patients at the lowest income level were found more likely symptomatic and with a higher pathological tumour stage in the RN cohort (p > 0.05). The guidelines adherence on surgical indication rate as well as the access to minimally invasive surgery did not differ according to patient's income level in both cohorts (p > 0.05). Survival curves were comparable among the groups. Cox regression analysis showed that none of the included socio-economic variables was associated with survival outcomes in our series.

Ethnographic methods highlighting descriptions of lived experience have been argued as a way of including such individuals, producing knowledge building on the person's perspective. Exploring the human right to be self-determined through ethnographic approaches can bring novel ways of understanding the concept, both about how to listen and learn from such experiences, and about implications for understanding self-determination. All people have the potential for self-determination, by being understood through embodied communication in caring relationships. By fostering relations with people with PIMD in sensitive, ethical ways, and addressing their profound dependency, their self-determination can be realized. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS Attentive engagement with people with lived experience of profound intellectual and multiple disabilities can inform both researchers and clinicians on self-determination. Through real-life descriptions, self-determination is demonstrated to move beyond independence and choice-making.

Skeletal muscle dysfunction is one of the major extrapulmonary complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Some studies have reported a relationship between physical activity (PA) level and skeletal muscle quality assessed by echo-intensity (EI) in healthy individuals but not in patients with COPD.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationships between PA level and both skeletal muscle EI and skeletal muscle mass in patients with COPD.

We employed a cross-sectional design. Forty male outpatients with stable COPD were enrolled. Using B-mode ultrasonography, we measured the rectus femoris muscle cross-sectional area (RF-CSA) and EI (RF-EI). The RF-CSA and RF-EI were measured on frozen images using an electronic caliper and 8-bit gray-scale analysis, respectively. The objective PA level was determined by monitoring daily step counts and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity time (MVPA) with an activity monitor. A general regression model was used to assess the relationships between PA level and both RF-CSA and RF-EI. Age and body mass index (BMI) were adopted as confounding variables.

Twenty-five outpatients with stable COPD (age, 70 ± 7years old; forced expiratory volume in 1s, 55.0 ± 24.9% of predicted values) were finally enrolled in the present study. Even after adjusting for age and BMI, the daily step counts and MVPA were significantly associated with RF-EI, and knee extensor force was associated with RF-CSA.

The present study showed that PA level was associated with RF-EI in patients with COPD. In addition, RF-CSA was associated with knee extensor force. When assessing skeletal muscle using ultrasonography in patients with COPD, we should also assess EI.

A bronchoscopy is an essential tool in pediatric pulmonology. However, the practices involved in the procedure are variable.

To evaluate prevalent practices and variations in pediatric flexible bronchoscopy in India.

An online survey was conducted via Google forms between September 2018 and March 2019. We circulated the survey among members of various respiratory societies and personal contacts. Physicians performing pediatric flexible bronchoscopy were requested to respond. The survey had 95 questions in seven domains demographics, patient preparation, sedation, procedural aspects, monitoring, bronchoscope cleaning, and complications.

The survey received 24 complete responses; the respondents were from 14 cities. Pediatric bronchoscopy was done mainly for diagnostic purposes. Most (19, 79%) respondents reported using conscious sedation for the procedure. The preferred regimen for sedation was midazolam plus fentanyl [9 (37.5%)]. Atropine was used routinely by 4 (16%). For topical anesthesia, nebulized lignocaine only, both nebulized and spray as go lignocaine, and spray as go lignocaine only were used by 1 (4.2%), 6 (25%), and 17 (71%) respondents, respectively. The methods of providing oxygen during bronchoscopy were free flow (9, 37.5%), nasal prongs (8, 33.3%), mask (6, 25%), and laryngeal mask airway (1, 4.2%). The common therapeutic procedures included removal of mucus plugs (17, 71%), bronchoscopic intubation (11, 45%), and foreign body removal (10, 41%). The number of aliquots used by respondents for bronchoalveolar lavage varied from 2 to 6, and the volume for each aliquot was also varied (1-2 ml/kg or 5-10 ml). Almost all the respondents reported complication rates of less than 5%.

There is a considerable variation in pediatric flexible bronchoscopy practices across the country, highlighting the need to develop a uniform guideline.

In Australia, emergency responders are increasingly required to attend events related to methamphetamines, even though reports suggest methamphetamine use across Australia has declined. The aim of the study was to explore Australian police and paramedic experiences attending methamphetamine-related events. A qualitative descriptive phenomenology design was employed using semi-structured interviews with employed police (10) and paramedics (8) from Australia. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Participants described the complexities associated with providing prehospital care to people affected by methamphetamines. Participants described associated domestic/family violence, increased levels of violence, challenges with communication, and responder emotional and psychological distress and physical injury. Violence associated with methamphetamine use is a critical factor in prehospital care. Workplace violence and family/domestic violence are important issues that require further research to ensure families and staff are well supported and have the services they need to continue responding to people affected by methamphetamine use.Basella rubra (family Basellaceae), locally known as 'Remayong Merah', is the edible perennial vine served as leafy vegetable in Malaysia. In May 2021, B. rubra's leaves with circular to subcircular purple spots (ranging from 1-10 mm wide) were collected in Lido (5°56'44.6"N 116°04'46.5"E), Sabah province. The disease severity was about 60% with 20% disease incidence on fifty plants. As disease developed, the spots grew larger and necrosis were formed within the purple spots. Small pieces (5 x 5 mm) of five diseased spots were excised, and then surface sterilized based on Khoo et al. (2022b) before plating on water agar at 25°C. Once obtained the pure cultures from all diseased spots, they were incubated on potato dextrose agar at 25°C. After 7 days, white aerial mycelium with light violet pigmentation on lower side were observed on PDA. Then, the fungi were cultured on Carnation leaf agar (CLA) at 25°C and 12-h light/dark photoperiod for 10 days. Thin-walled slender and slightly curved macroconidia (n= 20) weriment was repeated two more times. The reisolated pathogens were identified as F. proliferatum via PDA macroscopically, CLA microscopically and PCR amplification. F. proliferatum was reported previously causing leaf spot disease on Cymbidium orchids (Wang et al. 2018), tobacco (Li et al. 2017) and tomato (Gao et al. 2017). To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. proliferatum causing leaf spot on B. rubra in Malaysia. Infections of leaves reduce plant vigor and marketability. The identification of leaf spot caused by F. proliferatun will enable plant health authorities and farmers to identify practices to minimize disease on this important crop.
