To determine in people with a history of cancer, whether substituting sitting time with other daily activities (i.e., sleeping, walking, moderate and vigorous physical activity) was associated with changes in waist circumference (WC), an important surrogate marker of cardiometabolic risk.

In 3,684 people with a history of cancer [mean age (SD) 58.2 (7.3) years; BMI 28.9 (5.2) kgm

 ; 71% female], reallocating 10min of sleep or sedentary time for 10min of walking was associated with lower WC in women (p < 0.01). In men, PA intensity appeared to be more strongly associated with a reduced WC. Replacing 10min of sedentary time with 10min of moderate or vigorous PA and replacing 10min of sleep with moderate PA were associated with a significantly reduced WC (p < 0.001). The largest effect was when 10min of moderate PA was replaced with vigorous PA, a reduction in WC (p < 0.01) was evident.

For people with a history of cancer, adopting small but positive changes in lifestyle behaviors could help reduce WC and potentially offset negative health-related outcomes associated with higher WC. Further research is required to examine whether such an intervention may be acceptable and manageable among this population.

To systematically review the literature to investigate racial disparities among bladder cancer clinical trial enrollees.

A systematic review was conducted using Ovid, MEDLINE® to identify clinical trials between 1970 and 2020. Articles were reviewed and were included if they assessed race in their outcomes reporting among bladder cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials. The review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA statement.

We identified 544 clinical trials meeting our initial search criteria, with only 24 (4.4%) studies reporting racial demographic data. Enrollees were largely Caucasian (81-98%), with a strikingly small proportion of enrolled patients consisting of African-Americans (2-8%) and Hispanics (2-5%). Only one of the studies reported results on the efficacy and safety/tolerability of the tested treatment separately for racial groups and performed analyses stratified by race.

Featured by its exceptional thermal conductivity, graphene is an ideal functional filler for fabricating thermally conductive polymer composites to provide efficient thermal management. Extensive studies have been focusing on constructing graphene networks in polymer composites to achieve high thermal conductivities. Compared with conventional composite fabrications by directly mixing graphene with polymers, preconstruction of three-dimensional graphene networks followed by backfilling polymers represents a promising way to produce composites with higher performances, enabling high manufacturing flexibility and controllability. In this review, we first summarize the factors that affect thermal conductivity of graphene composites and strategies for fabricating highly thermally conductive graphene/polymer composites. Subsequently, we give the reasoning behind using preconstructed three-dimensional graphene networks for fabricating thermally conductive polymer composites and highlight their potential applications. The use of combination antiretroviral therapy has been a great success, leading to reduced mortality rates over the years. Although successful, these drugs are associated with various side effects, necessitating the development of new treatment strategies. This study investigated three metal-based complexes that were previously shown to possess some anticancer activity. The complexes were investigated against three pseudoviruses, which consisted of HIV-1 subtype C (CAP 210 and Du 156) and subtype A (Q 23). These complexes inhibited viral entry at low micromolar concentrations, with IC50 values ranging from 5.34 to 7.41 µM for N-aryl-1H-1,2,3-triazole-based cyclometalated ruthenium-(II) (A), 2.35-8.09 µM for N-aryl-1H-1,2,3-triazole-based cyclometalated iridium-(III) (B) and 2.59-4.18 µM for N-aryl-1H-1,2,3-triazole-based cyclometalated osmium-(II) complex (C). This inhibition was significant, with no significant inhibition from the ligand alone at similar concentrations. Additionally, these concentrations were non-toxic to mammalian cells. The complexes were further analysed for their potential mechanism of action using in silico docking (Maestro 12.2), which indicated that the activity is potentially due to their interaction with the CCR5 co-receptor. Children with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) carry a higher risk of respiratory complications after adenotonsillectomy. Their altered sensitivity to opioids may be a significant contributor to respiratory morbidity. The purpose of this study was to identify how anesthesia without opioids affects perioperative opioid demand and postoperative course.

A chart review of children with severe OSA (apnea hypoxia index; AHI ≥ 10) undergoing adenotonsillectomies was performed. Comorbidities and perioperative medications were documented. Perioperative opioid doses within 48 h of procedure were calculated as morphine equivalents (mcg/kg). Pain scores, rescue medications, and postoperative complications in PICU and non-PICU settings were also documented. Anesthesia without opioid and with opioid groups were compared.

Here, we identified that LAMC2 is significantly upregulated in microarray cohorts and TCGA RNA sequencing data of PDAC patients compared to non-cancerous/normal tissues. Patients with higher transcript levels of LAMC2 were correlated with clinical stages; dismal overall, as well as, disease-free survival. Additionally, we confirmed significant upregulation of LAMC2 in a panel of PDAC cell lines and PDAC tumor specimens in contrast to normal pancreatic tissues and cells. However, the differences in microbial community diversity and metabolites between the S_Daqu and N_Daqu were still unclear. The culture-dependent method, the third generation Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) single-molecule, real-time (SMRT) sequencing technology, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) were combined to show the characteristics in microorganisms and metabolites. Results showed that the fungal counts were higher in N_Daqu while the richness of bacterial communities was higher in S_Daqu (P  less then  0.05). Lentibacillus, Burkholderia, Saccharopolyspora, Thermoascus, and Rasamsonia were the dominant genera of S_Daqu while Staphylococcus, Scopulibacillus, and Chromocleista were the dominant genera in N_Daqu. The content of differential acids, amino acids, and alcohols including fumarate, glucuronate, glycine, 4-carboxyglutamate, and myo-inositol in S_Daqu was higher than that in N_Daqu by 1H NMR coupled with multivariate statistical analysis. The network analysis regarding microbes and metabolites suggested that Saccharopolyspora showed a strong positive correlation with 4-carboxyglutamate while Thermoascus and Chromocleista were highly negatively correlated with alanine and isobutyrate, respectively. Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) Effect Size (LEfSe) revealed that Macrococcus and Caulobacter were regarded as bacterial biomarkers in the S_Daqu while Chromocleista was the key fungal genera in N_Daqu. Functionality prediction indicated that the bacteria in S_Daqu were largely involved in more metabolic activities including biosynthesis, degradation, detoxification, and generation of precursor metabolite and energy.
