Depression severity was measured using a questionnaire, not a clinical interview. The findings may not be applicable to less burdened samples.
Asking high-risk adolescents to rate their own risk of attempting suicide appears to be an easy to apply method in improving the prediction of future suicide attempts in the clinical context.

Suicide in the young population has been an urgent issue worldwide. The study aimed to assess the overall prevalence of suicide ideation and the associations between adolescent suicide and psychiatric distress/ psychiatric morbidity, as well as the myths and help-seeking behavior of adolescents with suicide ideation.
The nationwide community-based telephone interviews were conducted with adolescents aged between 15 to 19 for five consecutive years (2015-2019). The measurements included demographic variables, the five-item Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS-5), and help-seeking experiences of formal medical services or psychological consultations. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to examine which of the five symptoms and demographic variables had discriminative validity for suicidal ideation.
Among 727 participants, the prevalence of lifetime and one-week suicidal ideation was 11.4% and 2.8%, respectively. Adolescents with lifetime/ one-week suicidal ideation and with psychiatric morbidity (BSRS-5≥6) sought psychiatric service more than their counterparts (p<0.001). Female, depression, hostility, and anxiety were significantly associated with suicidal ideation in adolescents.
Telephone interview and structured questionnaire.
Adolescents with psychiatric morbidity who have sought help should be carefully monitored for suicidal ideation by parents, teachers, mental health workers, and psychiatric specialists altogether.

Electronic medical records (EMRs) facilitate more integrated and comprehensive care. Despite this, EMRs are used less frequently in psychiatry compared to other medical disciplines, in part due to concerns regarding stigma surrounding mental health. This paper explores the willingness to share medical information among patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), who experience higher rates of psychiatric comorbidities compared to the general population, and the role that stigma plays in patient preferences.
MS patients were surveyed about their co-occurring psychiatric and non-psychiatric diagnoses, willingness to share their health information electronically among their treating doctors, and levels of self and societal stigma associated with their diagnoses.
Participants were slightly more willing to share their non-psychiatric medical information vs. psychiatric information. Despite the presence of stigma decreasing patient willingness to share medical records, those with psychiatric co-occurring disorders experiencing higher than average levels of psychiatric comorbidities. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic has become a global public health event. Medical staff around the world are nervously responding to the crisis, and their mental health problems deserve attention. To better know the differences in the mental health status between frontier-line and non-frontier-line medical staff. This study used the Child PTSD Symptom Scale, the Self-Rating Depression Scale, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale to examine the PTSD, depression, anxiety and resilience among 162 frontier-line medical workers and 163 non-frontier-line medical workers in China. Tertiapin-Q purchase The results showed that all negative factor scores of non-frontier-line medical staff seemed to be worse than those of frontier-line medical staff, and the positive factor scores were the opposite through descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test and Chi-square test. Some psychological effects and theories were used to explain this phenomenon. Intervention suggestions for medical staff and future research directions were discussed.
The ability to regulate emotion is associated with affective disorders and the experience of pain. However, little is known about emotion regulation in youth with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a population that regularly experiences pain and symptoms of depression and anxiety. This study examines the relationship between emotion regulation and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and pain interference in youth with SCD.
Participants ages 8-20 at a university-based pediatric sickle cell clinic completed the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), self-report measures assessing use of emotion regulation strategies. Participants also completed the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), measures for symptoms of anxiety, depression, and pain interference. Multiple regression models tested associations between use of emotion regulation strategies and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and pain interference.
Participants were 51 patients with SCD, 30 female and 21 male, with a mean age of 13.02 years (SD=0.47, mid-max=8-20). Use of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies was associated with increased symptoms of depression (r=.58), anxiety (r=.45) and pain interference (r=.30) in youth with SCD.
Potential limitations of our study include small sample size, use of youth self-report measures, and participant selection contingent on the ability to attend an outpatient appointment.
Identifying maladaptive emotion regulation strategies in youth with SCD may provide clinicians with targeted pathways for improving emotional and psychological functioning.
