The future of mitochondrial medicine is strongly related to a perfect comprehension of its dysfunction.Myxobacteria belong to a group of bacteria that are known for their well-developed communication system and synchronized or coordinated movement. This typical behavior of myxobacteria is mediated through secondary metabolites. They are capable of producing secondary metabolites belonging to several chemical classes with unique and wide spectrum of bioactivities. It is predominantly significant that myxobacteria specialize in mechanisms of action that are very rare with other producers. Most of the metabolites have been explored for their medical and pharmaceutical values while a lot of them are still unexplored. This review is an attempt to understand the role of potential metabolites produced by myxobacteria in different applications. Different myxobacterial metabolites have demonstrated antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties along with cytotoxic activity against various cell lines. Beside their metabolites, these myxobacteria have also been discussed for better exploitation and implementation in different industrial sectors.

MRI is very accurate in selecting young women with cervical cancer for fertility-sparing surgery (FSS), in particular radical hysterectomy (RH). In order to improve obstetrical outcomes, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by cold knife conization (CKC) has been proposed as alternative technique.

To investigate the role of MRI in evaluation of response to treatment after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), followed by CKC, in patients with cervical cancer FIGO stage IB2-IIA1 with tumor size 2 - 4cm, desiring to preserve their fertility.

13 young women (23-36years old) with cervical cancer stage IB2-IIA1 desiring to preserve their fertility were included. Tumor diameter at baseline and after treatment was detected on 1.5T MRI. Treatment response was assessed according to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST 1.1) and then compared to histopathology result.

MRI correctly assessed 11 out of 13 cases, according to RECIST 1.1, compared to histopathology. Among these 7 patients with partial response (PR), 2 cases of CR, 1 SD and 1 PD with persistence or enlargement of primary tumor.

Our pilot study supports the usefulness of MRI in assessment of treatment response after NACT, followed by CKC.

New treatments are needed for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy to improve seizure control without decreasing quality of life.

In Belgium, a Medical Need Program (MNP) was initiated to make a new antiepileptic drug (brivaracetam; high-affinity synaptic vesicle protein 2A ligand) available as adjunctive therapy to treat focal seizures in patients failing treatment with three or more different antiepileptic drugs. This is a real-world chart review of the majority of patients (71%) enrolled in the MNP.

Retention and seizure outcomes of brivaracetam adjunctive treatment were evaluated in 175 patients aged ≥16 years enrolled in the MNP between June 2016 and May 2017 at six centers; 95.4% were previously/concomitantly treated with levetiracetam. selleck chemicals Safety events data were also collected.

In this highly drug-resistant population, 85.8%, 73.9%, and 64.9% of patients remained on brivaracetam, while seizure frequency decreased from baseline in 32.0%, 37.1%, and 37.3% of patients after 3, 6, and 9 months' treatment, respectively. Patients achieving 3-month seizure freedom increased from 3.2% after 3 months' treatment to 10.2% and 10.7% after 6 and 9 months' treatment, respectively. Six-month seizure freedom was achieved by 5.7% of patients at any time. Qualitative evaluation of seizures by physicians demonstrated 44.2%, 38.8%, and 43.2% of patients improved and 42.8%, 50.9%, and 50.6% remained unchanged during 3, 6, and 9 months' follow-up, respectively. No safety signals were identified.

Retention was high during 9 months of brivaracetam treatment in drug-resistant patients, including those previously/concomitantly treated with levetiracetam; 3-month seizure freedom increased from 3.2% after 3 months to 10.7% after 9 months of treatment.

To obtain the subtypes of the clinical hypertension population based on symptoms and to explore the relationship between hypertension and comorbidities.

The data set was collected from the Chinese medicine (CM) electronic medical records of 33,458 hypertension inpatients in the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine between July 2014 and May 2017. Then, a hypertension disease comorbidity network (HDCN) was built to investigate the complicated associations between hypertension and their comorbidities. Moreover, a hypertension patient similarity network (HPSN) was constructed with patients' shared symptoms, and 7 main hypertension patient subgroups were identified from HPSN with a community detection method to exhibit the characteristics of clinical phenotypes and molecular mechanisms. In addition, the significant symptoms, diseases, CM syndromes and pathways of each main patient subgroup were obtained by enrichment analysis.

The significant symptoms and diseases of these patient subgroups were associated with different damaged target organs of hypertension. Additionally, the specific phenotypic features (symptoms, diseases, and CM syndromes) were consistent with specific molecular features (pathways) in the same patient subgroup.

The utility and comprehensiveness of disease classification based on community detection of patient networks using shared CM symptom phenotypes showed the importance of hypertension patient subgroups.
