Magnetocaloric materials based on field-induced first order transformations such as Ni-Mn-Ga-Co are promising for more environmentally friendly cooling. Due to the underlying martensitic transformation, a large hysteresis can occur, which in turn reduces the efficiency of a cooling cycle. Here, we analyse the influence of the film microstructure on the thermal hysteresis and focus especially on large angle grain boundaries. We control the microstructure and grain boundary density by depositing films with local epitaxy on different substrates Single crystalline MgO(0 0 1), MgO(1 1 0) and Al2O3(0 0 0 1). By combining local electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and global texture measurements with thermomagnetic measurements, we correlate a smaller hysteresis with the presence of grain boundaries. In films with grain boundaries, the hysteresis is decreased by about 30% compared to single crystalline films. Nevertheless, a large grain boundary density leads to a broadened transition. To explain this behaviour, we discuss the influence of grain boundaries on the martensitic transformation. While grain boundaries act as nucleation sites, they also lead to different strains in the material, which gives rise to various transition temperatures inside one film. We can show that a thoughtful design of the grain boundary microstructure is an important step to optimize the hysteresis.Despite the progressive nature of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), its association of high morbidity and mortality with severe COPD, and the view that discussions between patients and clinicians about palliative care plans should be grounded in patients' preferences, many older patients do not receive timely end-of-life care (EOLC) discussions with healthcare professionals (HPs), potentially risking inadequate care at the advanced stages of the disease. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate EOLC discussions and resuscitation issues as a representative and illustrative part within EOLC in older patients with COPD in the University Hospital Center Osijek, Slavonia (Eastern Region), Croatia, as such data have not yet been explored. The study was designed as cross-sectional research. Two groups of participants, namely, patients at least 65 years old with COPD and healthcare professionals, were interviewed anonymously. In total, 83 participants (22 HPs and 61 patients with COPD) were included in the study. According to the results, 77% of patients reported that they had not had EOLC discussions with HPs, 64% expressed the opinion that they would like such conversations, and the best timing for such discussion would be during frequent hospital admissions. Furthermore, 77% of HPs thought that EOLC communication is important, but only 14% actually discussed such issues with their patients because most of them felt uncomfortable starting such a topic. The majority of older patients with COPD did not discuss advanced care planning with their HPs, even though the majority of them would like to have such a discussion. EOLC between HPs and older patients with COPD should be encouraged in line with patients' wishes, with the aim to improve their quality of care by anticipating patients' likely future needs in a timely manner and thereby providing proactive support in accordance with patients' preferences. The wide range, complex background, and small target size of aerial remote sensing images results in the low detection accuracy of remote sensing target detection algorithms. Traditional detection algorithms have low accuracy and slow speed, making it difficult to achieve the precise positioning of small targets. This paper proposes an improved algorithm based on You Only Look Once (YOLO)-v3 for target detection of remote sensing images. Due to the difficulty in obtaining the datasets, research on small targets for complex images, such as airplanes and ships, is the focus of research. To make up for the problem of insufficient data, we screen specific types of training samples from the DOTA (Dataset of Object Detection in Aerial Images) dataset and select small targets in two different complex backgrounds of airplanes and ships to jointly evaluate the optimization degree of the improved network. We compare the improved algorithm with other state-of-the-art target detection algorithms. The results show that the performance indexes of both datasets are ameliorated by 1-3%, effectively verifying the superiority of the improved algorithm.

The study was performed to analyze the prevalence of the conjunctival ultraviolet autofluorescence (CUVAF) area in keratoconic eyes and changes caused by UVA-irradiation as a component of accelerated corneal cross-linking (aCXL).

The study group involved 20 keratoconic patients subjected to aCXL surgery in one eye. The comparative group consisted of 111 age- and sex-matched patients with healthy corneas. The images of the anterior segment in both patient groups were taken using a Coroneo camera. In the study group the photos were taken before and immediately after the surgery, and 7 and 30 days following the procedure.

Nasal and temporal autofluorescence area (AN+T) were significantly smaller in a keratoconic patients group compared to control group (

= 0.0001). Patients with the third stage of keratoconus had significantly higher AN+T (

= 0.0277) compared with individuals with lower stage keratoconus. No statistically significant CUVAF changes were observed after the aCXL procedure. In keratoconic patients with primary CUVAF undergoing aCXL, a temporary fast enlargement of the autofluorescence area was observed.

The eyes undergoing the aCXL procedure showed no difference in the size of the CUVAF area but such patients should be in strict follow-up in order to reveal UV-related ocular surface diseases.

Among other biological hypotheses, researchers have evidenced an imbalance in the endocannabinoid (eCB) system, which regulates some functions typically impaired in ASD, such as emotional responses and social interaction. Additionally, cannabidiol (CBD), the non-intoxicating component of Cannabis sativa, was recently approved for treatment-resistant epilepsy. Epilepsy represents a common medical condition in people with ASD. Atglistatin ic50 Additionally, the two conditions share some neuropathological mechanisms, particularly GABAergic dysfunctions. Hence, it was hypothesized that cannabinoids could be useful in improving ASD symptoms. Our systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines and aimed to summarize the literature regarding the use of cannabinoids in ASD. After searching in Web of KnowledgeTM, PsycINFO, and Embase, we included ten studies (eight papers and two abstracts). Four ongoing trials were retrieved in ClinicalTrials.
