We report on the formation of two novel multifunctional isomorphous (4,4) square-grid 2D coordination polymers based on 1H-indazole-5-carboxylic acid. To the best of our knowledge, these complexes are the first examples of 2D-coordination polymers constructed with this novel ligand. We have analysed in detail the structural, magnetic and anti-parasitic properties of the resulting materials. In addition, the capability of inhibiting nitric oxide production from macrophage cells has been measured and was used as an indirect measure of the anti-inflammatory response. Finally, the photocatalytic activity was measured with a model pollutant, i.e. vanillic acid (phenolic compound), with the aim of further increasing the functionalities and applicability of the compounds.Triatominae is a subfamily of blood-sucking reduviid hemipterans of public health importance primarily in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the Americas, whose members possess various morphological adaptations closely associated to hematophagy. Despite their medical importance, the systematics of the subfamily is far from resolved, particularly within the tribe Triatomini. Here we employed mitochondrial genome DNA sequences to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships among 19 species of the North-Central American (NCA) clade of Triatomini and to estimate the times of origin and diversification of its main clades. Twenty-nine mitogenomes were examined for representative specimens of 25 species, including the outgroup. Phylogenetic informativeness estimated for each protein-coding gene showed that cox1, cox2 and atp6 were the most informative markers, whereas atp8 and nad4 had high saturation levels. Phylogenetic analyses excluding the latter two protein-coding genes recovered an almost fully resolved topology. The NCA clade apparently originated shortly after emergence of an initial land bridge of the Panama Isthmus, ca. 15.05-20.05 Mya. An Asian/pantropical subclade with Linshcosteus costalis, Triatoma rubrofasciata and T. migrans was nested within the NCA clade, from which it diverged ca. 12.42-17.3Mya. Uncorrected cox1 and 13 protein-coding gene distances suggest the existence of additional species within the dimidiata complex. In contrast, T. phyllosoma, T. mazzottii and T. longipennis, from the phyllosoma complex, have considerably low cox1 and 13 PCG distances among them, suggesting mitochondrial introgression or conspecificity. Our study yielded a robust phylogeny for the group, which could be tested with further phylogenetic hypotheses based on nuclear genome-wide markers.Pakistan has second highest burden of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients in the World. Little is known about the molecular epidemiology and risk factors for prevailing HCV genotypes in Pakistan. Considering this a multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted at 23different viral hepatitis control and prevention centers. A total of 175,897 patients were registered and screened for HCV, out of which 73,180 (41.6%) were found positive on Architect screening test. The screened positive patients were sequentially tested on RT-PCR; where 41,241 (56.35%) were detected positive. Molecular characterization results showed genotype 3 (73.9%) as the most prevalent type, followed by genotype 1 (9.7%), and genotype 4 (0.3%) was isolated for the first time in Pakistan. On regression analysis; risk factors associated with genotype 3 and 1 included; age group of 30-50 years, rural residence, exposure to >10 injections, barber shaving, circumcision by barbers, and low literacy rate. Phylogenetic analysis based on genotypes identified in this study and sequences isolated from Pakistan in last 10 years demonstrated that genotype 3 and 1 are endemic locally in Punjab province. The high prevalence rate of HCV is a threat for a generalized epidemic and genetic recombination with such variability of genotypes identified here is an alarming condition. More focused attention and resources should be spent in awareness of the population to prevent the spread of HCV among high risk population.Highly pathogenic (HP) H5N1, clade 2.2.1, and low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) H9N2 viruses, G1-B lineage, are endemic in poultry in Egypt and have co-circulated for almost a decade. Surprisingly, no inter-subtypic reassortment events have been reported from the field during that time. After the introduction of HPAIV H5N8, clade 2.3.4.4b, in Egyptian poultry in 2016, suddenly HP H5N2 reassortants with H9N2 viruses emerged. The current analyses focussed on studying 32 duck flocks, 4 broiler chicken flocks, and 1 turkey flock, suffering from respiratory manifestations with moderate to high mortality reared in two Egyptian governorates during 2019. Real-time RT-PCR substantiated the presence of HP H5N8 in 21 of the 37 investigated flocks with mixed infection of H9N2 in two of them. HP H5N1 was not detected. Full hemagglutinin (HA) sequencing of 10 samples with full-genome sequencing of three of them revealed presence of a single genotype. Very few substituting mutations in the HA protein were detected versus previous Egyptian HA sequences of that clade. Interestingly, amino acid substitutions in the Matrix (M2) and the Neuraminidase (NA) proteins associated with conferring both Amantadine and Oseltamivir resistance were present. Systematic reassortment analysis of all publicly available Egyptian whole genome sequences of HP H5N8 (n = 23), reassortant HP H5N2 (n = 2) and LP H9N2 (n = 53) viruses revealed presence of at least seven different genotypes of HPAI H5Nx viruses of clade 2.3.4.4b in Egypt since 2016. For H9N2 viruses, at least three genotypes were distinguishable. Heat mapping and tanglegram analyses suggested that several internal gene segments in both HP H5Nx and H9N2 viruses originated from avian influenza viruses circulating in wild bird species in Egypt. Based on the limited set of whole genome sequences available, annual replacement patterns of HP H5Nx genotypes emerged and suggested selective advantages of certain genotypes since 2016.The HIV-1 epidemic is a remarkable public health concern in China, especially in developed trade areas. We aimed to investigate the interaction of migration with the local transmission network in a typical trade area, Yiwu City, the world's largest commodity distribution center. Based on 390 pol sequences from 413 participants diagnosed between 2014 and 2016, putative transmission clusters and the underlying demographic and behavioral characteristics were analyzed. Recent infection status was determined by HIV-1 limiting antigen avidity enzyme immunoassay to identify active clusters. Multiple subtypes were identified, with a predominance of CRF01_AE (47.4%) and CRF07_BC (40.8%), followed by 9 other subtypes and 8 URFs. Multivariable analyses revealed that individuals in clusters were more likely to be local residents, infected through heterosexual behaviors, and infected with CRF01_AE (P less then .05). learn more Of men who have sex with men (MSM), 81% were linked to other MSM, and only 3% were linked to heterosexual women.
