Although the cumulative survival of the albumin plus mixed plasma group was higher than the other group starting from day 23 after treatment, we did not observe significant difference (P = .50). No significant increase in the risk for hemorrhage was observed in either group. CONCLUSIONS The therapeutic efficacy of albumin and mixed plasma (211) is not inferior to that of albumin and FFP (11), and it can be used in treating TTP. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.INTRODUCTION Constant evaluation of the outcomes of laparoscopic intracorporeal urinary diversion is not yet established. This study aimed to describe surgical outcomes and learning curve of intracorporeal ileal conduit (ICIC) following laparoscopic radical cystectomy (LRC) at a single institution. METHODS From June 2012 to February 2018, 38 patients with bladder cancer underwent LRC with ileal conduit at our institution. Surgical outcomes were compared between ICIC (n = 30) and extracorporeal ileal conduit (ECIC) (n = 8). The learning curve during ICIC with regard to the operative time and complication rate was compared. RESULTS No significant differences in patient characteristics between the ICIC and ECIC groups were found. Comparison of outcomes between the ICIC and ECIC groups were as follows median total operative time, 688 vs 713 minutes; urinary diversion time, 213 vs 192 minutes; and estimated blood loss, 450 vs 420 mL, respectively. The median time to walking and oral intake were similar in both groups. Rates of high-grade complications associated with urinary diversion (Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ III) were 3% in ICIC and 25% in ECIC. Although 25% of ECIC patients developed wound dehiscence (Clavien-Dindo grade IIIb), no patient in the ICIC group had postoperative wound infection. For the learning curve of ICIC (n = 30), urinary diversion time decreased significantly (27 minutes decrease per 10 cases, P = .02). Clavien-Dindo grade ≥ II complication did not occur after 20 cases. CONCLUSIONS LRC with ICIC could be performed safely with low incidence of severe wound infection compared with ECIC. The incidence and severity of complications also decreased with time. © 2020 Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery, Asia Endosurgery Task Force and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.The interaction between wine tannins and saliva proteins is responsible for wine astringency perception, producing a depletion of salivary proteins and changes on oral friction. In sensorial terms, astringency is described as a dryness and puckering sensation in the mouth, which is related to the "structure" or "body" of red wines. However, these last descriptors, as structure or body, are perceived during wine tasting and commonly related to wine viscosity. To address these differences on sensory response, we hypothesize that tannin-protein interactions could be a key factor involved in the viscosity of red wines/saliva mixtures, just as they are for astringency. We used a rheological method to study the impact of tannin-protein interaction on the viscosity of model wine-saliva systems. Mixtures of model saliva based on mucin and typical astringent compounds, as commercial tannins and gallic acid, were evaluated for their rheological behavior. garsorasib concentration The viscometric flow of the fluid mixtures was determined, and subsequently, the viscosity was evaluated at a shear rate of 60 s-1 . It was observed that red wines/saliva mixtures exhibit non-Newtonian flow and ascending tannin doses led to an increase in the apparent viscosity. Nephelometric analysis demonstrate that tannin-mucin aggregates were formed, which suggests that these complexes were potentially responsible for the viscosity increases, modifying the rheological behavior of these mixtures. Results from this work propose that tannin-protein interactions are also involved in the underlying mechanism of thickness perception of red wines and rheology could be a complementary instrumental technique for wine mouthfeel characterization. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Propranolol is approved for treatment of infantile hemangiomas (IH). IH proliferation coincides with the time when most women are breastfeeding, yet there are no reports describing the clinical effects on infants treated with propranolol while being nursed by mothers on oral antihypertensive medications. We describe two cases of breastfed infants, with mothers taking multiple antihypertensives of different drug classes, who were initiated on propranolol for IH treatment and discuss the theoretical risk of propranolol use in this setting. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.A rapid, sensitive, and accurate ultra flow liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UFLC-MS/MS ) method was developed and validated for simultaneous quantitation of glycyrrhetic acid and puerarin in plasma derived from healthy and alcoholic liver injury rats. Plasma samples from healthy and model rats were deproteinated with methanol using liquiritin as an internal standard. Chromatography separation was performed by a Waters BEH (ethylene-bridged hybrid) C18 column (2.1 × 50 mm; 1.7 μm) using a gradient elution from acetonitrile and water (containing 0.1% formic acid) and at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. Quantitation was performed on a Triple Quad 4500 tandem mass spectrometer coupled with an electrospray ionization source in negative multiple reaction monitoring mode. Specificity, carryover, dilution integrity, recovery, linearity, precision and accuracy, matrix effect, and stability were within acceptable limits. The newly established method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetics study to investigate glycyrrhetic acid and puerarin in healthy and alcoholic liver injury rats. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.We present frozen section as a novel method in the diagnosis of pili trianguli et canaliculi that may serve as a more time- and resource- efficient alternative to current gold- standard electron microscopy. In this case series, three children between ages one and four presented with blonde hair unable to be combed into place. Frozen section was performed and evaluated under light microscopy with easy visualization of the hair shaft abnormality, consistent with the diagnosis of pili trianguli et canaliculi. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
