This study aimed to compare the prediction performance of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) semantic segmentation models for intracranial metastatic tumors with a volume ≥ 0.3 mL.

We used postcontrast T1 whole-brain magnetic resonance (MR), which was collected from Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH). Also, the study was approved by the institutional review board (IRB) of TVGH. The 2D image segmentation model does not fully use the spatial information between neighboring slices, whereas the 3D segmentation model does. We treated the U-Net as the basic model for 2D and 3D architectures.

The effect of radical hysterectomy for patients with cervical cancer on voiding function remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between radical hysterectomy for patients with cervical cancer and the odds of developing neurogenic bladder by using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan.

We identified 17 936 patients who underwent radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer between 2000 and 2013 among inpatients registered in the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database in Taiwan. Of the patients, those diagnosed as having cervical cancer without radical hysterectomy were selected and compared as a matched control group. Patients diagnosed as having cervical cancer before the index date, those with neurogenic bladder dysfunction before tracking, and those aged <20 years were excluded. The hazard ratios (HRs) of neurogenic bladder and other variants of interest were further calculated using a multivariate Cox regression analysis. The ould be informed of the potential risk of voiding dysfunction during discussion of the subsequent management for cervical cancer.

The prevalence of esophagogastric varices (EGV) in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer is not rare. However, its clinical significance has never been investigated. link3 This study was aimed to explore the clinical implication and outcomes of these patients.

A retrospective analysis comprising 224 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer managed from October 2012 to December 2019 at a tertiary medical center identified 35 patients who had presented with EGV. Clinical characteristics and outcomes were analyzed with special emphasis on comparison between patients with early-onset and late-onset EGV.

Patients with EGV had lower platelet count and a higher proportion of splenomegaly but no difference in overall survival in comparison to those without EGV. Patients with early-onset EGV had a poorer bleeding survival (hazard ratio, 8.347; CI, 2.509-27.772; p = 0.001) in comparison to those with late-onset EGV. On multivariate analysis, initial serum bilirubin, γ-Glutamyltransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, cancer stage, and the response to cancer treatment determine the patient's survival. Patients with tumor invasion to superior mesenteric and portal vein are more likely to have esophageal varices (EV) (EV 13/15 vs gastric varices [GV] 4/20; p < 0.001); those with splenic vein invasion are more likely to have GV (EV 4/15 vs GV 20/20; p < 0.001).
