Exposure-effect associations were explored in a pooled dataset of nine different cross-sectional FLEHS surveys. Data of adolescents collected in a time frame of about 20 years (1999-2018) were compiled. The aim of the study was to examine whether increased variation in exposure, lifestyle and environmental factors would lead to more powerful and robust exposure-effect associations.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review with meta-analysis to investigate the outcomes of direct lingual nerve repair after injury.
The studies in this review were compiled by using PubMed/Medline and ScienceDirect, which were searched by a single reviewer (M.K.) from their inception until March 10, 2020. Two independent reviewers (M.K. and V.B.Z.) who were blinded to each other's assessments reviewed full-text articles to assess for study inclusion. Outcomes were dichotomized as either functional sensory recovery (FSR) or no FSR. Clinical testing must have been assessed at a minimum of 6months postoperatively. FSR was defined as grade S3, S3
, or S4 on the British Medical Research Council scale of neurosensory function. Studies were only eligible if they provided the number of patients treated with conduits or time from injury to repair and the associated rates of FSR with each intervention.
The initial search using the key terms yielded 4,921 results, which was then eventually fied with a beneficial effect on FSR; however, heterogeneity was an issue with the studies. There is a lack of strong evidence owing to the nature of studies analyzed and the need for further research is required.
The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected healthcare systems across the nation. The purpose of this study is to gauge the early effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on head and neck oncology and reconstructive surgery (HNORS) practice and evaluate their practice patterns especially ones that might be impacted by COVID-19 and compare them to the current literature.
This study is a cross-sectional study that surveyed fellowship-trained oral and maxillofacial surgeons in HNORS. This cohort of surgeons was contacted via a generated email list of surgeons enrolled in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons pathology special interest group. An electronic survey contained 16 questions to assess the COVID-19 effect on HNORS practice and capture their practice patterns from mid-March to mid-April 2020. Statistical analysis was performed to analyze counts, percentages, and response rates.
We had a 60% response rate (39 of 64); 72% of our responders worked at academic institutioreatment of patients with head and neck oncology. Most HNORS surgeons are practicing in accordance with recently published literature.
The potential for transmission of pathogenic organisms is a problem inherent to the current reusable duodenoscope design. Recent outbreaks of multidrug-resistant pathogenic organisms transmitted via duodenoscopes has brought to light the urgency of this problem. Microbiologic culturing of duodenoscopes and reprocessing with repeat high-level disinfection (HLD) or liquid chemical sterilization (LCS) have been offered as supplemental measures to enhance duodenoscope reprocessing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This study aims to compare the efficacy of reprocessing duodenoscopes with double HLD (DHLD) versus LCS.
We prospectively evaluated 2 different modalities of duodenoscope reprocessing from October 23, 2017 to September 24, 2018. Eligible duodenoscopes were randomly segregated to be reprocessed by either DHLD or LCS. Duodenoscopes were randomly cultured after reprocessing for surveillance based on an internal protocol.
During the study period, there were 878 post-reprocessing surveillance cultures (453 in the DHLD group and 425 in the LCS group).
