2 years after IBD diagnosis, and the control group was followed for a median of 15 years after IBD diagnosis to ensure that they did not have AVN. Ten percent of patients with AVN did not have any CS exposure. History of arthropathy or estrogen use in Crohn's disease and use of CS, osteoporosis, and history of arthropathy in ulcerative colitis were significantly associated with AVN.

Most patients with IBD-AVN had multifocal involvement. Most had received CS, but many patients had other risk factors including arthropathy.

Specifically, binary ALHSs that are composed of a fluid donor and acceptor have a simplified composition and high number density of the donor units. However, largely due to the difficulty in obtaining a fluid donor, investigation of these systems is still quite limited, especially for the ionic systems. Herein, we report a new type of binary ALHS using an ionic naphthalimide (NPI) derivative as a donor, which shows greatly improved photoluminescence for its bicontinuous liquid structure. When blending with an acceptor such as rhodamine 6G or trans-4-[4-(dimethylamino)styryl]-methylpyridinium iodide, efficient FRET was confirmed by both experimental results and molecular dynamics simulations, with an energy transfer efficiency up to ∼90%. Tunable color, including white-light emission, was achieved by tuning the acceptor/donor ratio, opening the door for a variety of applications such as light-emitting diodes and photoluminescent inks. The interaction of dimethyl sulfoxide with water has been investigated by Fourier-transform microwave spectroscopy of the 11 complex and its isotopologues, complemented with quantum chemical calculations. The rotational spectra of 34S and 13C isotopologues in natural abundance and the H218O and deuterated water enriched isotopologues have been measured, allowing a partial structure determination and establishing the position of water in the complex. In the most stable conformation water was found to be the donor of a primary OH···OS bond to the oxygen atom of dimethyl sulfoxide and acceptor of two weak CH···OH bonds with the methyl hydrogen atoms of dimethyl sulfoxide. From the structural determination confirmed by quantum chemical calculations, the water molecule lies in the symmetry plane of dimethyl sulfoxide, and the complex has an overall Cs symmetry. The experimental findings are supported by atoms in molecules and symmetry-adapted perturbation theories, which allowed for determining the hydrogen bond and intermolecular interaction energies, respectively.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder with one of the most complex pathogeneses, making effective and clinically actionable decision support difficult. The objective of this study was to develop a novel multimodal deep learning framework to aid medical professionals in AD diagnosis.

We present a Multimodal Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis framework (MADDi) to accurately detect the presence of AD and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from imaging, genetic, and clinical data. MADDi is novel in that we use cross-modal attention, which captures interactions between modalities-a method not previously explored in this domain. We perform multi-class classification, a challenging task considering the strong similarities between MCI and AD. We compare with previous state-of-the-art models, evaluate the importance of attention, and examine the contribution of each modality to the model's performance.

MADDi classifies MCI, AD, and controls with 96.88% accuracy on a held-out test set. When examining the contribution of different attention schemes, we found that the combination of cross-modal attention with self-attention performed the best, and no attention layers in the model performed the worst, with a 7.9% difference in F1-scores.

Our experiments underlined the importance of structured clinical data to help machine learning models contextualize and interpret the remaining modalities. Extensive ablation studies showed that any multimodal mixture of input features without access to structured clinical information suffered marked performance losses.

This study demonstrates the merit of combining multiple input modalities via cross-modal attention to deliver highly accurate AD diagnostic decision support.

Can the embryo tracking system (ETS) increase safety, efficacy and scalability of massively parallel sequencing-based preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)?

Applying ETS-PGT, the chance of sample switching is decreased, while scalability and efficacy could easily be increased substantially.

Although state-of-the-art sequencing-based PGT methods made a paradigm shift in PGT, they still require labor intensive library preparation steps that makes PGT cost prohibitive and poses risks of human errors. To increase the quality assurance, efficiency, robustness and throughput of the sequencing-based assays, barcoded DNA fragments have been used in several aspects of next-generation sequencing (NGS) approach.

We developed an ETS that substantially alleviates the complexity of the current sequencing-based PGT. With (n = 693) and without (n = 192) ETS, the downstream PGT procedure was performed on both bulk DNA samples (n = 563) and whole-genome amplified (WGAed) few-cell DNA samples (n = 322). Subsequently, weumber of cells as the input. Moreover, ETS-PGT could easily be adapted to any sequencing-based diagnostic method, including PGT for structural rearrangements and aneuploidies by low-pass sequencing as well as non-invasive prenatal testing.

Do women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have a greater risk of adverse pregnancy complications (gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, cesarean section, placental abnormalities) and neonatal outcomes (preterm birth, small for gestational age, prolonged delivery hospitalization) compared to women without a PCOS diagnosis and does this risk vary by BMI, subfertility and fertility treatment utilization?

Deliveries to women with a history of PCOS were at greater risk of complications associated with cardiometabolic function, including gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, as well as preterm birth and prolonged length of delivery hospitalization.

Prior research has suggested that women with PCOS may be at increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, findings have been inconsistent possibly due to lack of consistent adjustment for confounding factors, small samples size and other sources of bias.

Although intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) represents standard-of-care treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in eligible adult patients, definitive evidence-based guidelines and randomized clinical trial data evaluating its safety and efficacy in the pediatric population remain absent from the literature. We aimed to evaluate the utilization and outcomes of IVT for the treatment of pediatric AIS using a large national registry.

Weighted hospitalizations for pediatric (<18 years of age) AIS patients were identified in the National Inpatient Sample during the period of 2001 to 2019. Complex sample statistical methods were performed to assess unadjusted and adjusted outcomes in patients treated with IVT or other medical management.

Among 13,901 pediatric AIS patients, 270 (1.9%) were treated with IVT monotherapy (median age 12.8 years). IVT-treated patients developed any intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) at a rate of 5.6% (n = 15), and 71.9% (n = 194) experienced favorable functional outcomes at discharge (to home or to acute rehabilitation). Following propensity-score adjustment for age, acute stroke severity, infarct location, and etiological/comorbid conditions, IVT was not associated with an increased risk of any ICH (5.6% vs 5.4%, p = 0.931; adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.01, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.48-2.14, p = 0.971), nor with favorable functional outcome (71.9% vs 74.5%, p = 0.489; aOR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.60-1.29, p = 0.511) in comparison with other medical therapy.

Twenty years of population-level data in the United States demonstrate that pediatric AIS patients treated with IVT experienced high rates of favorable outcomes without an increased risk of hemorrhagic transformation.

WHO defined the disease as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 21 July 2022. These data showed that monkeypox is novel global threat.Electrochemically deposited electroactive polymer (EAP) films were investigated for their potential to enhance the performance of ambient ionization mass spectrometry (MS). Several EAPs of varying hydrophobicity were evaluated, including the superhydrophobic polymer poly[3,4-(2-dodecylethylenedioxy)thiophene] (PEDOT-C12). The EAPs were electropolymerized onto indium tin oxide-coated glass, placed in front of the inlet of a mass spectrometer, and charged to 3.5-4.5 kV. Analyte solutions were then applied to the surface, initiating ionization events. Analytes including peptides and small molecule pharmaceuticals were studied in 0.1% formic acid in methanol/water ("spray solvent") as well as in synthetic biological fluid matrices, using both EAP spray ionization (EAPSI) and paper spray ionization (PSI). Each EAPSI analysis required as little as 0.1 μL of solution, and the resulting sprays were stable and reproducible. The sensitivity, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ) were evaluated using bradykinin, cannabinol, and cannabidiol, which were prepared in pure solvents, artificial urine, and artificial saliva. The limits of detection and quantitation for EAPSI were improved relative to PSI by 1-2 orders of magnitude for analytes prepared in methanol/water and on the same order of magnitude as PSI for analytes prepared in artificial saliva and urine. This EAP-based spray ionization technique offers possibilities for rapid MS analysis with small sample sizes, high accuracy, and miniaturization of MS instruments.
