The adsorption for CV dye followed Freundlich isotherm models and a pseudo second order kinetic model. The negative values of Gipps free energy (ΔG°) and positive value of enthalpy (ΔH°) indicated that the adsorption of CV dye onto the surface of SNPCs was a spontaneous and endothermic process, respectively. Based on the results, the adsorption mechanism of CV dye onto the surface of SNPCs was proposed.International guidelines recommend the use of ultrasound as a surveillance tool for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with cirrhosis, while the role of serum biomarkers is still debated. We investigated serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist II (PIVKA-II) and glypican-3 (GPC-3) diagnostic accuracy for HCC detection and prediction in patients with liver cirrhosis of viral etiology under surveillance. A total of 349 patients (200 cirrhosis and 149 HCC) were enrolled. The 200 patients with cirrhosis consisted of 114 patients still HCC-free after 36 months of follow-up and 86 patients that developed HCC after 13.8 (11.0-19.8) months. AFP, PIVKA-II and GPC-3 were measured in serum samples collected at tumor diagnosis in the 149 patients with HCC, and at the beginning of follow-up in the 200 patients with cirrhosis. The higher performance for HCC detection was observed for PIVKA-II (area under the curve (AUC) = 0.790), followed by AFP (AUC = 0.737) and GPC-3 (AUC = 0.637); the combination of AFP + PIVKA-II improved the diagnostic accuracy to AUC = 0.822. Serum PIVKA-II values, but not AFP and GPC-3, were significantly higher in the 86 cirrhotics that developed HCC compared with the 114 cirrhotics still HCC-free after 36 months of follow-up (p = 0.020). PIVKA-II ≥ 55 mAU/mL allowed to identify patients with cirrhosis at higher risk of HCC development (Log-rank test, p less then 0.001; adjusted Hazard Ratio = 1.99, p = 0.001). In conclusion, the measurement of PIVKA-II in patients with cirrhosis may be useful to tailor personalized surveillance strategies.Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a standard treatment for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this review, we summarize recent updates on the use of TACE for HCC. TACE can be performed using two techniques; conventional TACE (cTACE) and drug-eluting beads using TACE (DEB-TACE). TL13-112 mouse The anti-tumor effect of the two has been reported to be similar; however, DEB-TACE carries a higher risk of hepatic artery and biliary injuries and a relatively lower risk of post-procedural pain than cTACE. TACE can be used for early stage HCC if other curative treatments are not feasible or as a neoadjuvant treatment before liver transplantation. TACE can also be considered for selected patients with limited portal vein thrombosis and preserved liver function. When deciding to repeat TACE, the ART (Assessment for Retreatment with TACE) score and ABCR (AFP, BCLC, Child-Pugh, and Response) score can guide the decision process, and TACE refractoriness needs to be considered. Studies on the combination therapy of TACE with other treatment modalities, such as local ablation, radiation therapy, or systemic therapy, have been actively conducted and are still ongoing. Recently, new prognostic models, including analysis of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, radiomics, and deep learning, have been developed to help predict survival after TACE.Every year, millions of people develop scars due to skin injuries after trauma, surgery, or skin burns. From the beginning of wound healing development, scar hyperplasia, and prolonged healing time in wound healing have been severe problems. Based on the difference between adult and fetal wound healing processes, many promising therapies have been developed to decrease scar formation in skin wounds. Currently, there is no good or reliable therapy to cure or prevent scar formation. This work briefly reviews the engineering methods of scarless wound healing, focusing on regenerative biomaterials and different cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular components in regenerative wound healing to minimize skin damage cell types, and scar formation.Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a public health problem and its prevalence has increased worldwide; patients are commonly unaware of the condition. The present study aimed to investigate whether exhaled breath ammonia via vertical-channel organic semiconductor (V-OSC) sensor measurement could be used for rapid CKD screening. We enrolled 121 CKD stage 1-5 patients, including 19 stage 1 patients, 26 stage 2 patients, 38 stage 3 patients, 21 stage 4 patients, and 17 stage 5 patients, from July 2019 to January 2020. Demographic and laboratory data were recorded. The exhaled ammonia was collected and rapidly measured by the V-OSC sensor to correlate with kidney function. Results showed no significant difference in age, sex, body weight, hemoglobin, albumin level, and comorbidities in different CKD stage patients. Correlation analysis demonstrated a good correlation between breath ammonia and blood urea nitrogen levels, serum creatinine levels, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Breath ammonia concentration was significantly elevated with increased CKD stage compared with the previous stage (CKD stage 1/2/3/4/5 636 ± 94; 1020 ± 120; 1943 ± 326; 4421 ± 1042; 12781 ± 1807 ppb, p less then 0.05). The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.835 (p less then 0.0001) for distinguishing CKD stage 1 from other CKD stages at 974 ppb (sensitivity, 69%; specificity, 95%). The AUC was 0.831 (p less then 0.0001) for distinguishing between patients with/without eGFR less then 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (cutoff 1187 ppb sensitivity, 71%; specificity, 78%). At 886 ppb, the sensitivity increased to 80% but the specificity decreased to 69%. This value is suitable for kidney function screening. Breath ammonia detection with V-OSC is a real time, inexpensive, and easy to administer measurement device for screening CKD with reliable diagnostic accuracy. In this work, SixCoCrNi (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, molar ratio) alloys were designed by introducing elemental Si into CoCrNi, a medium-entropy alloy (MEA). The effects of Si addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-cast SiCoCrNi alloys were investigated. The results suggested that a novel Si-rich face-centred cubic (FCC) phase formed in the Si0.3CoCrNi and Si0.4CoCrNi alloys. The Si-rich FCC phase, which featured high hardness and was located between the dendrites of the matrix FCC phase (with higher phase fraction), significantly increased the yield strength of the Si0.4CoCrNi alloys five times compared with the CoCrNi alloy.
