Our primary goal was to measure the NO (A) photoproduct appearance energy and ground-state dissociation energy of the N2-NO complex. We recorded velocity map ion images of NO photofragments resulting from the dissociation of the N2-NO complex excited between ∼225.8 and 224.0 nm, which ranged from the photodissociation threshold to about 342 cm-1 above the threshold. In the experiment, one photon dissociated the complex through the N2 (X 1Σg+)-NO (A 2Σ+) ← N2 (X 1Σg+)-NO (X 2Π) transition, and a second photon nonresonantly ionized the NO (A) photoproduct. The lowest-energy photons near 225.8 nm did not have sufficient energy to photodissociate the lowest excited state of the complex; however, dissociation was observed with increasing photon energy. On the basis of the experiments, we determined the appearance energy for the NO (A) photoproduct to be 44 284.7 ± 2.8 cm-1. From the appearance energy and the NO A ← X origin band transition, we determined a ground-state dissociation energy of 85.8 ± 2.8 cm-1. As we increased the photon energy, the excess energy was partitioned into rotational modes of the diatomic products as well as product translational energy. We found good agreement between the average fraction of rotational energy and the predictions of a simple pseudo three atom impulsive model. Finally, at all photon energies, we observed some contribution from internally excited complexes in the resulting P(ET). The maximum internal energy of these complexes was consistent with the ground-state dissociation energy.Hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of aqueous interfaces at the molecular level results from a subtle balance in the water-water and water-surface interactions. This is characterized here via density functional theory-molecular dynamics (DFT-MD) coupled with vibrational sum frequency generation (SFG) and THz-IR absorption spectroscopies. We show that water at the interface with a series of weakly interacting materials is organized into a two-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network (2D-HB-network), which is also found above some macroscopically hydrophilic silica and alumina surfaces. These results are rationalized through a descriptor that measures the number of "vertical" and "horizontal" hydrogen bonds formed by interfacial water, quantifying the competition between water-surface and water-water interactions. The 2D-HB-network is directly revealed by THz-IR absorption spectroscopy, while the competition of water-water and water-surface interactions is quantified from SFG markers. The combination of SFG and THz-IR spectroscopies is thus found to be a compelling tool to characterize the finest details of molecular hydrophobicity at aqueous interfaces. The straightforward synthesis of α-fluoro-β-arylalkenyl sulfones under transition-metal- and base-free conditions has been described, which displays broad functional group compatibility and high stereoselectivity. In particular, the strategy is also applied to the late-stage modification of complex natural products and drugs. In general, two-dimensional semiconductor-based van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) can be modulated to achieve the transition of band alignments (type-I, type-II, and type-III), which can be applied in different applications. However, it is rare in three-dimensional perovskite-based vdWHs, and it is challenging to achieve the tunable band alignments for a single perovskite-based heterostructure. Here, we systematically investigate the electronic and optical properties of all-inorganic perovskite vdWHs CsSnBr3/WS2(1-x)Se2x based on density functional theory (DFT) calculation. Omaveloxolone cost The calculated results show that the transitions of band alignment from type-II to type-I and type-III to type-II are achieved by modulating the doping ratio of the Se atom in the WS2(1-x)Se2x monolayer for SnBr2/WS2(1-x)Se2x and CsBr/WS2(1-x)Se2x heterostructures, respectively, in which the CsBr and SnBr2 represent two different terminated surfaces of CsSnBr3. The change of band alignments can be attributed to the conduction band minimum (CBM) transforming from the W 5d to Sn 5p orbital in SnBr2/WS2(1-x)Se2x vdWHs, and the valence band maximum (VBM) and CBM change from an overlapped state to a separated one in CsBr/WS2(1-x)Se2x vdWHs. This work can provide a theoretical basis for the dynamic modulation of band alignments in perovskite-based vdWHs.We report the synthesis of Rh nanocrystals with different shapes by controlling the kinetics involved in the growth of preformed Rh cubic seeds. Specifically, Rh nanocrystals with cubic, cuboctahedral, and octahedral shapes can all be obtained from the same cubic seeds under suitable reduction kinetics for the precursor. The success of such a synthesis also relies on the use of a halide-free precursor to avoid oxidative etching, as well as the involvement of a sufficiently high temperature to remove Br- ions from the seeds while ensuring adequate surface diffusion. The availability of Rh nanocrystals with cubic and octahedral shapes allows for an evaluation of the facet dependences of their thermal and catalytic properties. The data from in situ electron microscopy studies indicate that the cubic and octahedral Rh nanocrystals can keep their original shapes up to 700 and 500 °C, respectively. When tested as catalysts for hydrazine decomposition, the octahedral nanocrystals exhibit almost 4-fold enhancement in terms of H2 selectivity relative to the cubic counterpart. As for ethanol oxidation, the order is reversed, with the cubic nanocrystals being about three times more active than the octahedral sample.Intramolecular amination of organoboronates occurs with a 1,2-metalate shift of an aminoboron "ate" complex to form azetidines, pyrrolidines, and piperidines. Bis(boronates) undergo site-selective amination to form boronate-containing azacycles. Enantiomerically enriched azacycles are formed with high stereospecificity. The Th17 pathway has been implicated in autoimmune diseases. The retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor C2 (RORγt) is a master regulator of Th17 cells and controls the expression of IL-17A. RORγt is expressed primarily in IL-17A-producing lymphoid cells. Here we describe a virtual screen of the ligand-binding pocket and subsequent screen in a binding assay that identified the 1-benzyl-4',5'-dihydrospiro[piperidine-4,7'-thieno[2,3-c]pyran]-2'-carboxamide scaffold as a starting point for optimization of binding affinity and functional activity guided by structure-based design. Compound 12 demonstrated activity in a mouse PK/PD model and efficacy in an inflammatory arthritis mouse model that were used to define the level and duration of target engagement required for efficacy in vivo. Further optimization to improve ADME and physicochemical properties with guidance from simulations and modeling provided compound 22, which is projected to achieve the level and duration of target engagement required for efficacy in the clinic. We describe the motion of a droplet on a textured ratchet track using a nonlinear resonator model. A textured ratchet track is composed of a semicircular pillar array that induces a net surface tension local gradient on a droplet placed on it. When a vertical vibration is applied, hysteresis is overcome, and the droplet moves toward the local lower energy barrier; however, due to the repetitive structure of texture, it keeps moving until the end of the track. The droplet motion depends on the amplitude and frequency of the vertical oscillation, and this dependence is nonlinear. Therefore, finding a fully analytic solution to represent this motion is not trivial. Consequently, the droplet motion remains poorly understood. In this study, we elaborate on the utility of a double pendulum as a basis for modeling the droplet motion on surfaces inducing asymmetric force. Similar to the droplet motion, resonators, such as a double pendulum, are simple, yet nonlinear systems. Moreover, an inverted double pendulum motion has key characteristics such as the two-phase motion and the double peak motion, which are also observed in the droplet motion. We use various data-processing methods to highlight the similarity between these two systems both qualitatively and quantitatively. After establishing this comparison, we propose a model that utilizes an inverted double pendulum mounted on a moving cart to successfully simulate the motion of a droplet on a ratchet track. This methodology will lead to the development of an accurate droplet-motion modeling approach, and we believe that it will be useful to understand droplet dynamics more deeply. The first Ge(0)-Ge(II) germylone-germylene-paired Ge2 complex (LSi)2Ge2 (4) and the molecular Ge4 cluster (LSi)2Ge4 (5) supported by the chelating carbanionic ortho-C,C'-dicarborandiyl-silylene ligand LSi [L = C,C'-C2B10H10, Si = PhC(tBuN)2Si] have been synthesized and isolated via reduction of the corresponding precursors chlorogermyl-germyliumylidene chloride (2), [(LSi)2Ge(Cl)Ge]+Cl-, and (LSi)2Ge4Cl4 (3) with C8K, respectively. The latter precursors were obtained from the unexpected outcome of the reaction of the ortho-C,C'-dicarborandiyl phosphine-silylene ligand PLSi (1) P = P[N(tBu)CH2]2 and GeCl2·dioxane. Compound 2 is formed in higher yields (65% yields) by the salt metathesis reaction of the C-lithium dicarborandiyl-C'-silylene salt LiLSi (6) [Li = Li(OEt2)2] with GeCl2·dioxane. The molecular structures of all these species (1-6) have been established and confirmed spectroscopically and crystallographically. The electronic structures of 4 and 5 were elucidated by density functional theory calculations. While 4 possesses a localized dative Ge(0)→Ge(II) bond, the Ge-Ge σ bonds in 5 are delocalized in the Ge4 cluster core. Featuring a donor-acceptor interaction between two chelating silylenes and the Ge4 core, compound 5 represents a unique molecular model for a Ge4 cluster. The gram-scale synthesis of 5,6-, 6,7-, and 7,8-chromene/chromane-type aryne precursors and their applications in regioselective transformation to other functional derivatives is reported. Chromene/chromane-type arynes are generated under mild conditions, which can further undergo [2 + 2], [3 + 2], and [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions, nucleophilic addition reactions, and σ-insertion reactions to produce structurally novel substituted chromenes and chromanes. The excellent regioselectivity of the reaction is facilitated by the oxygen-containing guiding groups at the ortho-position of the triple bond, which can be removed or switched to other functional groups including alkenyl, aryl, heteroaryl, and arylamino groups. The effect of pressure on the structural reorganization of ferrocene, Fc = (C5H5)2Fe, is studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations assisted by evolutionary crystal structure prediction algorithms based on USPEX code. Pressure brings the individual molecules in close contact, and above 220 GPa, the 18-electron closed-shell molecular unit undergoes polymerization through the formation of quasi-one-dimensional (1D) chains, [(C5H5)2Fe]∞, termed as polyferrocene (p-Fc). Pressure induced polymerization (PIP) of Fc causes significant deviations from the 5-fold symmetry of the cyclopentadiene (Cp, C5H5 rings) and loss of planarity due to the onset of envelope-like distortions. This triggers distortions within the multidecker sandwich structures and σ(C-C) bond formation between the otherwise weak noncovalently interacting Cp rings in Fc crystals. Pressure gradually reduces the band gap of Fc, and for p-Fc, metallic states are found due to increased electronic coupling between the covalently linked Cp rings.
