Through collecting the literature data of the needling technique with filiform needle in 20 acupuncture-moxibustion teaching materials in the Republic of China, the manipulation techniques with filiform needle were analyzed, such as the technique of needle insertion, the technique of reinforcing and reducing, and the management of acupuncture abnormal conditions, as well as manual techniques and analgesics methods. It is found that the era of the Republic of China was the transition period of traditional acupuncture techniques to the modern ones in acupuncture-moxibustion teaching materials, in which, the twirling technique was predominated in the technique of needle insertion. In that period, the insertion technique of tube needle had been introduced and simplified, the theory and method of the new-style technique of reinforcing and reducing were emerged and the types of acupuncture abnormal conditions recorded in the teaching materials were different from those at present. Additionally, the applicable manipulation had not been specified nationally. Selleck MG132 There were the highly influential teaching materials, i.e. Advanced Acupuncture and Moxibustion Teaching Materials Science of Acupuncture and Science of Moxibustion, Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Teaching Materials and New Acupuncture and Moxibustion. The acupuncture-moxibustion teaching materials in the Republic of China has been influenced by the transition of acupuncture-moxibustion education modes, the introduction of Chinese-translation version of Japanese acupuncture-moxibustion books, the academic thoughts of acupuncture masters and the manufacturing process of needle devices. The advantages of western medical research were analyzed and the differences between skin nerve stimulation in western medicine and acupuncture-moxibustion in TCM were compared, so as to inspire the scientific researches of acupuncture and moxibustion in China. The related literature was searched and the research basis, content and achievements of the American stimulating peripheral activity to relief condition (SPARC) program were systematically summarized. From the perspectives of theoretical system, stimulation site, stimulation method and mechanism of action, the similarities and differences between skin nerve stimulation in western medicine and acupuncture-moxibustion in TCM were compared. Through comparative analysis, it is found that the systematic construction of SPARC "high-resolution neural circuit map" is essentially the upgraded version of the traditional distribution map of meridians and acupoints in China, which is similar to the research on origin of nervous system and stimulation site of acupuncture-moxibustion of TCM. Under the impact of "localization of traditional Chinese medicine" in other countries, learning from the international advanced research technology, gathering top-level talents, and encouraging openness and innovation will be the necessary pathway to improve the quality of acupuncture-moxibustion research and master the power of knowledge initiative."Sasa zhenhan" is a word describing the syndrome of cold sensation, which is one of the foot-yangming stomach-meridian syndromes. The lesions of stomach and yangming meridian could cause changes of yang qi and superficial symptoms of the interior syndrome, leading to "sasa zhenhan". In this study, the specific manifestation of the "sasa zhenhan" is analyzed from the aspect of word meaning, and the relationship between the "sasa zhenhan" and stomach is further discussed through the perspectives of yang qi and the exterior-interior relationship. In addition, combined with typical clinical case, it is suggested that attention should be paid on the relationship between exterior and interior syndromes, and the clinical application of tongfu and tongyang method (activating yang qi and promoting qi circulation of fu organs) should be strengthened, which could expand the new thinking of clinical treatments for viscera diseases through acupuncture and moxibustion.College education is the main mode of modern acupuncture-moxibustion talent training in China. In this paper, the acupuncture-moxibstion education modes in the early years after the founding of the Peoples' Republic of China, dominated as the Chinese medicine advanced school and the training course of Chinese medicine for the western medicine physicians, were collected as well as the transformation into normalized institution education ones. As a result, the formation and the improvement process of modern acupuncture-moxibustion education mode are reflected and their significance on the discipline development is explored.Dysosmia affects not only odour identification, but also memory, appetite, immunity and affection. Moreover, it suggests the occurrence of some diseases. The etiology of dysosmia is various and the treatment with western medicine is limited. In this paper, by analyzing the relevant research articles on olfactory disorders treatment with acupuncture and moxibustion, the clinical application of acupuncture and moxibustion, the thought of its diagnosis and treatment as well as relevant effect mechanism were explored. It is anticipated to provide the clinical physicians with the references to the treatment of dysosmia.Professor CHEN Ri-xin's academic idea of "pain in joint and disorder in tendon region of meridian" was explored in this paper. According to the particular characteristics of the occurrence and development of the disease, knee arthralgia is divided into 4 stages, named tendon spasm, tendon blockage, tendon contraction and tendon atrophy. It is proposed that "tendon disorder results in bone disorder", implying the relationship between the disorders of tendon and bone. It is pointed that yang qi insufficiency occurs throughout knee arthralgia. "The tendon disorder should be treated at the first-line procedure for the bone disorder, and the tendon softening benefits the recovery of knee joints". The treatment principle includes "removing obstruction from meridian, eliminating pathogen, warming up yang and softening tendon". In clinical application, the heat-sensitive moxibustion is predominated. The various regimens are developed align with the pathogenesis characteristics of the disease at different stages.
