The behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) is the second most common cause of dementia for individuals less then 65 years old, but accurate diagnosis is often delayed for several years. While previous criteria have increased the ability of diagnosticians to distinguish between bvFTD and other neurocognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, distinguishing bvFTD from a primary psychiatric disorder (PPD) has been more challenging. In early 2020, the Neuropsychiatric International Consortium for Frontotemporal Dementia published the first consensus recommendations to help clinicians distinguish between bvFTD and PPD. These recommendations were produced by a consortium of 45 scientists and clinicians from more than 15 different countries, who explored aspects of history taking, neuropsychological assessments, clinical scales, neuroimaging, CSF and serum biomarkers, and genetics. A multidisciplinary approach is encouraged throughout. In this article, the authors also review those consensus recommendations and highlight use of novel tests and techniques. Additionally, they indicate where further research is needed, including methods to assess the dissemination and implementation of these recommendations. In this way, future efforts by clinicians and researchers alike to improve accurate recognition of bvFTD are encouraged, thereby expanding opportunities for improved guidance and management.
The investigators sought to evaluate the independent and interactive associations between mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) characteristics and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms with regard to postconcussive symptoms and cognition among treatment-seeking veterans of the U.S. conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sixty-seven Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who had a history of mTBI and comorbid PTSD were grouped based on injury mechanism (blast versus nonblast) and number of lifetime mTBIs (one to two versus three or more). Independent associations between mTBI characteristics and PTSD symptom clusters were evaluated with regard to cognition and postconcussive symptoms. Follow-up analyses were conducted to determine any interactive associations between TBI characteristics and PTSD symptom clusters.
Higher PTSD symptoms, particularly hyperarousal, were associated with poorer executive functioning and higher postconcussive symptoms. No direct relationships were observed between PTSD symptom clustereen injury characteristics and cognition chronically following mTBI. However, these results support synergistic effects of specific PTSD symptom clusters and TBI characteristics.

The aim of the current review is to analyze the current data on the use of coenzyme Q10 in the management of COPD and frequently encountered comorbidities.Chongqing coptis (Coptis chinensis Franchet) industry produces more than 60% of the Chinese coptis crop, and has been exported to many countries and regions. Since 2008, root rot has become a serious and widespread disease on coptis plants in Shizhu county with an average incidence of 40%, and yield losses up to 67%. Symptomatic coptis plants showed stunted growth, with the fibrous roots and main roots having brown or black, rotten, necrotic lesions. To our knowledge, Fusarium solani, F. carminascens, F. oxysporum and F. tricinctum have been previously reported as pathogens of coptis root rot (Luo et al. 2014; Cheng et al. 2020; Wu et al. 2020), but non Fusarium pathogens has not been reported yet. In order to identify new pathogens, 33 diseased roots were collected from Shizhu (30°18'N, 108°30'E) in October 2019. Small samples (0.5 cm in length) were cut from the border between diseased and healthy tissue, and then put on PDA after surface sterilization. Cultures were incubated at 25°C in dark until fungal crecovered from symptomatic roots and identified based on morphology. To our knowledge, this is the first report of D. eres causing root rot of coptis not only in China but anywhere in the world.
