In this context, patients with treatment-refractory schizophrenia are among of the most vulnerable patients to be exposed to the debilitating adverse effects from often irrational and high-dose antipsychotic polypharmacy without clinically meaningful benefits. To induce cystitis, rats in the ketamine and norketamine groups were treated with intravesical instillation of ketamine and norketamine by mini-osmotic pump, which was placed in subcutaneous space, daily for 24 h for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, all rats were subjected to bladder functional tests. The bladders were collected for histological and pathological evaluation. Compared to control, ketamine treatment demonstrated an increase in the bladder weight, high bladder/body coefficient, contractive pressure, voiding volume, collagen deposition, reduced smooth muscle content, damaged glycosaminoglycan layer, and low bladder compliance. Compared to ketamine, norketamine treatment showed more severe collagen deposition, smooth muscle loss, damaged glycosaminoglycan layer, and increased residual urine. Intravesical administration of ketamine and norketamine induced cystitis with different urodynamic characteristics. Norketamine treatment caused more severe bladder dysfunction than ketamine treatment. Direct treatment of the bladder with norketamine induced symptoms more consistent with those of bladder outlet obstruction than ketamine cystitis. Detailed studies of cellular mechanisms are required to determine the pathogenesis of ketamine cystitis.The aim of the study was to assess differences in the influence of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) on the skin surface temperature and vein diameter of the lateral fetlock joint region in a group of racehorses with pigmented and non-pigmented skin in the treatment area. Twenty Thoroughbreds were divided into two equal groups pigmented and non-pigmented skin groups. Each horse received the same HILT treatment. Just before and immediately after HILT, thermographic examination was performed to measure the skin surface temperature and ultrasonographic examination assessed the lateral digital palmar vein diameter. After HILT, the pigmented skin surface temperature increased, while the non-pigmented skin surface temperature decreased, and the difference between both groups was significant (p less then 0.001). The vein diameter increased after HILT in horses with pigmented and non-pigmented skin, but the difference between both groups was not significant (p = 0.14). In conclusion, melanin content in the epidermis plays an important role in light energy absorption and photothermal effects. The vein diameter changes after HILT application indicated that the increase in vessel diameter may partly depend on photothermal mechanisms occurring in irradiated tissue. Further research is necessary to describe the physiological and clinical effects of HILT performed on pigmented and non-pigmented skin.Nanosilica produced from physically-processed white rice husk ash agricultural waste can be incorporated into geopolymer cement-based materials to improve the mechanical and micro performance. This study aimed to investigate the effect of natural nanosilica on the mechanical properties and microstructure of geopolymer cement. It examined the mechanical behavior of geopolymer paste reinforced with 2, 3, and 4 wt% nanosilica. The tests of compressive strength, direct tensile strength, three bending tests, Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM/EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) were undertaken to evaluate the effect of nanosilica addition to the geopolymer paste. The addition of 2 wt% nanosilica in the geopolymer paste increased the compressive strength by 22%, flexural strength by 82%, and fracture toughness by 82% but decreased the direct tensile strength by 31%. The microstructure analysis using SEM, XRD, and FTIR showed the formation of calcium alumina-silicate hydrate (C-A-S-H) gel. The SEM images also revealed a compact and cohesive geopolymer matrix, indicating that the mechanical properties of geopolymers with 2 wt% nanosilica were improved. Thus, it is feasible for nanosilica to be used as a binder.

Cardiovascular failure (CVF) may complicate intensive care unit-acquired pneumonia (ICUAP) and radically alters the empirical treatment of this condition. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of CVF on outcome in patients with ICUAP.

A prospective, single-center, observational study was conducted in six medical and surgical ICUs at a University Hospital. CVS was defined as a score of 3 or more on the cardiovascular component of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score. At the onset of ICUAP, CVF was reported as absent, transient (if lasting ≤ 3 days) or persistent (>3 days). The primary outcome was 90-day mortality modelled through a Cox regression analysis. Secondary outcomes were 28-day mortality, hospital mortality, ICU length of stay (LOS) and hospital LOS.

With the model, the influence of vehicle number on the dynamic characteristics of a train-CRTS III slab track-subgrade coupled system with smooth and random track irregularity conditions for conventional and vibration-reduction CRTS III slab tracks are theoretically studied and analyzed. Some conclusions are drawn from the results (1) the largest dynamic responses of the coupled system for all items and cases are no longer changed when the vehicle number exceeds three, and three vehicles are adequate to guarantee the simulation precision to investigate the dynamic responses of the coupled system. (2) The acceleration of the car body has almost no relation with the vehicle number, and only one vehicle is needed to study the vehicle dynamics using the train-CRTS III slab track-subgrade coupled dynamic model. (3) For the conventional CRTS III slab track on a subgrade, the vehicle number has a negligible influence on the accelerations of the rail, slab, and concrete base, the positive and negative bending moments of the rail, the compressive force of the fastener, and the positive bending stress of slab, but it has a large influence on the tension force of the fastener, and the negative bending stresses of the slab and concrete base.
