While there is limited evidence of stronger outcomes from targeted interventions with cohorts of gender and sexuality diverse communities, compared with the use of mainstream or untailored interventions, there is stronger evidence that targeted interventions are more acceptable to these communities and may be more feasible in some contexts. Thus, there is benefit in understanding what targeting entails in these interventions, and to understand what influences acceptability, to inform the design and delivery of such interventions.We performed two meta-analyses to estimate the effects of lifestyle intervention during pregnancy and after delivery on the risk of postpartum diabetes among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). We searched the major databases to retrieve articles published in English or Chinese before 15 December 2019. The inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of diet, physical activity or both, conducted during or after pregnancy among women with GDM. The exclusion criteria were (1) having type 1 or type 2 diabetes before the intervention and (2) without postpartum diabetes documented. Fixed-effects model analysis was used to obtain the pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of lifestyle intervention for diabetes in women with GDM. Four RCTs were identified to have implemented the intervention during pregnancy (n = 2883) and 10 to have conducted it within 3 years after delivery (n = 1733). Lifestyle intervention during pregnancy was not effective at reducing the risk of postpartum diabetes (RR 0.91, 95%CI 0.66-1.25). However, lifestyle intervention initiated within 3 years after delivery was highly effective in reducing the risk of postpartum diabetes (pooled RR 0.57, 95% CI 0.42-0.78). In conclusion, our findings support the early initiation of lifestyle intervention in women with GDM for the prevention of diabetes.

This feasibility study explored older adults' use of a nutrition app called Appetitus (https//apps.apple.com/us/app/appetitt/id1001936854?ign-mpt=uo%3D2; https//play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=no.nr.appetitt&hl=e) and addressed their engagement in technology-mediated self-monitoring of diet. Undernutrition is a significant challenge among older adults and is associated with poorer health experiences. Digital health for self-monitoring of diet has the potential to increase awareness of personal nutrition, and the scarcity of research reporting older adults' ability and willingness to engage in technology-mediated dietary self-monitoring warranted this study.

An explorative mixed-methods design combining descriptive analysis of log data with qualitative analysis of interviews with Appetitus users was implemented.

Twenty-five older adults self-monitored their diet using Appetitus over an 8-week trial period. Eighty percent of the participants used the app regularly in the trial period. Case 1 was a 36-year-old woman without any clinical history. Case 2 was a 76-year-old man with an implanted pacemaker for complete atrioventricular block. Case 3 was a 45-year-old man with a history of first-degree AV block and sinus bradycardia. Microscopically, all three cases showed the bilayered structure of tumor glands and corpora amylacea in the glandular lumens. Immunohistochemically, the inner cells of the tumor glands were positive for cytokeratin CAM5.2, CEA, EMA, olfactomedin-4 and alpha-methylacyl-coenzyme A racemase; the outer cells were positive for p63 and cytokeratin high molecular weight. In Case 1, androgen receptor and estrogen receptor were negative; progesterone receptor was focally positive in both the inner and outer cells. In Case 2, androgen receptor showed intermediate positivity in the inner cells; estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor were positive in the outer cells. Positive expression of both prostate-specific antigen and prostate-specific acid phosphate were found in the inner cells of both male cases. Mechanistically, S12 phosphorylation enhances the nuclear localization of the mutant protein and also reduces its cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)2/CDK1 inhibition activity. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of quantitative phosphorylation of a p27Kip1 variant on a physiologically unmodified residue associated with the loss of several tumor suppressor activities. In addition, our findings demonstrate that haploinsufficiency might be due to unpredictable post-translational modifications due to generation of novel consensus sequences by cancer-associated missense mutations.

Risk constructs based on psychological risk factors (eg, pain catastrophizing, PC) and sensitization risk factors (eg, pressure pain threshold, PPT) are important in research and clinical practice. Most research looks at individual constructs but does not consider how different constructs might interact within the same individual. An evaluation of the cumulative impact of psychological and sensitization risk factors on pain-related outcomes may help guide us in the risk assessment of patients with pain conditions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the cumulative impact of these psychological (PC) and sensitization (PPT) risk factors on pain-related outcomes (activity avoidance, pain severity, and disability) considering covariates.

We included 109 participants (70.60% women; mean±SD age 53.6±12.3years) with chronic musculoskeletal pain for data analysis, who completed all measures of this study. Participants completed a single testing session that included measures of risk factors (PC and PPT) and painr in functional avoidance (task-related outcome). A clinical presentation with high-PC (one dimension of risk) is not associated with high-PPT (another dimension of risk). This finding has important clinical and theoretical implications.

In the medical field, data can be split into two categories medical images and other data. For brevity, our review deals with any kind of medical data excluding images. In this article, we offer a discussion around four supervised machine learning approaches information-based, similarity-based, probability-based and error-based approaches. Each method is illustrated with detailed cardiovascular and nuclear medicine examples. Our review shows that model ensemble (ME) and support vector machine (SVM) methods are the most popular. SVM, ME and artificial neural networks often lead to better results than those given by other algorithms. In the coming years, more studies, more data, more tools and more methods will, for sure, be proposed.Like many institutions around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted us to shift our summer 2020 in-person undergraduate experiential learning program to a remote, virtual format. Here, we present our observations, summarized in 10 best practices, for moving a STEM-focused research experience for undergraduates, experiential learning program or research-based course online. We will also discuss how our program was originally designed and implemented, and how we adapted our activities to deliver an at-home research experience that maintained student engagement, mentorship, and a shared sense of community.
