Skin tumors are on the rise in the Nepalese community. The different morphological pattern of skin tumors requires its meticulous categorization for understanding its effect on prognosis and treatment. Our study aimed at studying the prevalence of skin tumors among the skin biopsies performed in the dermatology outpatient department in a tertiary care hospital of Nepal.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was done from skin biopsy samples from 1st January, 2017 to 31st December, 2019, at a tertiary care center. Ethical clearance was taken from the institutional review committee (IRC), Ref No 056-077/078. Convenience sampling was done. A self-designed proforma containing questions on the patients' socio-demographic data and clinical details were used, and a biopsy of those clinically suspected to have skin tumors was done. Skin tumors were classified according to the World Health Organization 2018 classification of skin tumors. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences Version 16. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was done, and frequency and proportion were calculated.

A total of 671 skin biopsies were done during this study, out of which 125 (18.63%) at 95% Confidence Interval (15.68-21.57) were diagnosed with skin tumors. Among them, 77 (61.6%) were female, and 48 (38.4%) were male. Among the diagnosed cases, 105 (84%) were benign, and 20 (16%) were malignant. Females showed preponderance in both benign and malignant tumors.

The findings from our study show the increasing prevalence of skin tumors, and the results were comparable to other similar studies conducted in various parts of Nepal.

The traditional concept of ischemic heart disease as a "man's disease" is debunked. Yentl syndrome is used to describe the underdiagnosis of ischemic heart disease in females and its associated effects. This article reports a 48-year-old female presented to the emergency department with acute epigastric discomfort. Her initial diagnostic tests did not reveal any abnormalities, and she was discharged. Subsequently, after four days, she again visited the emergency department with chest pain, the evaluation of which furthermore revealed no abnormalities. However, we admitted her. After 40 hours of hospitalization, her evaluation revealed anterior wall ST elevation myocardial infarction, and she underwent emergent reperfusion via coronary catheterization. This combination of atypical signs and symptoms and chances of delayed manifestations in the diagnostic investigations provides evidence for a need for thorough assessment in a female with chest pain.

Persistent inflammatory smear is a benign finding on pap test but is associated with premalignant lesion of the cervix. Further evaluation is therefore necessary. This study was done to determine the prevalence of cervical intraepithelial lesions in women with persistent inflammatory smear.

This is descriptive observational study conducted in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of tertiary care centre of Nepal from 15th May 2020 to 14th May 2021 after obtaining ethical clearance from Institutional Review Board (Reference no MEMG/IRC/338/GA). Women with two consecutive pap smear reports showing inflammatory findings were enrolled. Colposcopy was performed and Modified Reid's colposcopic index was used to grade the lesions. Colposcopic guided biopsy was taken and tissue sent for histopathology for abnormal colposcopic lesions. Data analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 21 and frequency and percentages were used to present data. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data.

Among 115 women, 57 (49.5%) at 95% Confidence Interval (40.37-58.63) had Cervical Intraepithelial lesions. Among them 48 (41.7%) had low grade intraepithelial lesions and 9 (7.8%) had high grade lesions on colposcopy.

The prevalence of cervical intraepithelial lesions in women with persistent inflammatory smear on pap was higher in our study compared to other studies.

Here we report a case of a 27 years woman presented to our department with a mass and pus-like discharge coming from her previous Pfannenstiel incision for 1 month. The definitive treatment of such cases is hysterectomy but the case was managed by fistulectomy along with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist.Supraclavicular brachial plexus block is extensively used for primary regional anaesthesia as well as postoperative analgesia for the surgical procedures of the upper limb. The evidence for the use of ultrasound in supraclavicular brachial plexus is growing day by day as it has the advantage of allowing real time visualisation of the plexus, pleura and vessels along with the needle and local anaesthetics spread. Despite this, complications can even arise with ultrasound guided supraclavicular brachial plexus block. Hoarseness of voice due to recurrent laryngeal nerve block is a rare complication of supraclavicular brachial plexus block. There are few reported cases of hoarseness of voice following the right supraclavicular block. There is only one reported case of hoarseness of voice following the left supraclavicular block. Here, we report a case of a 16-year-old boy who developed hoarseness of voice due to left recurrent laryngeal nerve following ultrasound guided left supraclavicular brachial plexus block.Medical science is one of the sectors which has faced rapid advancement in the past few years. selleck chemicals llc But sadly, medical schools are still following the traditional curriculum where a wide gap between the pre-clinical and clinical phases prevails. Early clinical exposure is known to act as a bridge to this gap. It contributes to the overall development of naive medical students enhancing their communication skills, clinical skills, teamwork, empathy development, and motivation towards selfdirected learning and hence making them more competent for clinical years. So, as it reinforces the conventional didactic teaching-learning method it becomes a much-needed part for the students in preclinical years.

Childhood obesity, caused due to excessive fat accumulation, is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths associated with several non-communicable diseases. In Nepal, there is limited data available on the status of overweight and obesity among school children. The objective of this study was to find out the prevalence of childhood overnutrition among school going children in a municipality.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2019 to July 2019, in four schools of a municipality selected by simple random sampling. Ethical approval was obtained from Nepal Health Research Council (Registration number 380/2019). Data was collected using census sampling from children aged 5-18 years through self-administered questionnaires to the children's parents. The data was entered into the Statistical Package for Social Sciences for analysis. Point estimate at 95% confidence interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binarydata.

Out of 379 school children, the prevalence of overnutrition was found to be 38 (10.03%) (95% Confidence Interval= 7.01-13.05). Prevalence of overnutrition was highest in children of age group 10-13 years 23 (60.5%), in females 27 (71.1%), those consuming junk food 4-6 times weekly 14 (36.8%) and those performing daily physical activity less than 60 minutes 24 (63.2%).

The prevalence of childhood overnutrition is similar in comparison to other studies done in similar settings.

Gallbladder diseases are prevalent worldwide and present with a diverse histopathological spectrum. Mucosal irritation and chronic inflammation is considered as an important etiological factor for the mechanical or functional dysfunction of emptying of the gallbladder. This study aims to find the prevalence of non-neoplastic lesions of gallbladder among cholecystectomy specimens of a tertiary care center.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Pathology, of a tertiary care center from January 2005 to December 2020. Ethical approval was taken from the Institutional Review Committee. All the patients who had undergone cholecystectomy procedures which showed non-neoplastic lesions were enrolled in the study. Convenient sampling was done. Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 21 and Microsoft Excel were used for data analysis. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data.

Out of 4914 cholecystectomy specimens, 4852 (98.73%) (95% Confidence Interval= 98.42- 99.04) were non-neoplastic lesions. There were 1252 (25.8%) males and 3600 (74.2%) females with a male to female ratio of 12.87. Age ranged from 2 to 89 years with a mean age of 45±14.48 years. Gallbladder lesions were observed maximum in age group 41-50 years with 1200 (24.7%) cases. Among the non-neoplastic lesions, cholecystitis without any specific finding was the most common finding with 3028 (62.4%) cases followed by cholelithiasis with 1478 (30.5%) cases.

The prevalence of non-neoplastic lesions of gallbladder is similar to other studies donein similar setings. Female predominance was noted in non-neoplastic lesions.

Irreversible mental retardation and brain damage in children are the devastating disorders lead by iodine deficiency. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to find out the prevalence of insufficient iodine level among the children of a secondary school. Methods This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in urine from April 2019 to July 2019 after obtaining ethical approval from Nepal Health Research Council (Registration number 802/2018). Forty-six urine samples were collected from school children for iodine estimation. Convenience sampling was done. Data were entered into Statistical Package for the Social Science version 21 and descriptive analyses were done. Point estimate at 95% confidence interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data. Results Among the 46 students, majority 36 (78.30%) (95% Confidence Interval= 66.30-90.21) of the school children had insufficient urine iodine level. Among 36 salt samples collected from school children with low urine iodine level, 8 (22.2%) salt samples had iodine less than 15ppm. Conclusions Iodine estimation revealed a very high percentage of urine samples containing insufficient levels of iodine is similar as compared to studies done in similar settings. Hence, the school children were at risk of iodine deficiency disorders. Iodine deficiency disorders prevention programs should be priority intervention based on available evidence.
