Northeastern Thailand relies on agriculture as a major economic activity, and has used high levels of agrochemicals due to low facility, and salty sandy soil. To support soil recovery and sustainable agriculture, local farmers have used organic fertilizers from farmed animal feces. However, knowledge about these animal fecal manures remains minimal restricting their optimal use. Specifically, while bacteria are important for soil and plant growth, an abundance and a diversity of bacterial composition in these animal fecal manures have not been reported to allow selection and adjustment for a more effective organic fertilizer. This study thereby utilized metagenomics combined with 16S rRNA gene quantitative PCR (qPCR) and sequencing to analyze quantitative microbiota profiles in association with nutrients (N, P, K), organic matters, and the other physiochemical properties, of the commonly used earthworm manure and other manures from livestock animals (including breed and feeding diet variations) in the region. Unlike the other manures, the earthworm manure demonstrated more favorable nutrient profiles and physiochemical properties for forming fertile soil. Despite low total microbial biomass, the microbiota were enriched with maximal OTUs and Chao richness, and no plant pathogenic bacteria were found based on the VFDB database. The microbial metabolic potentials supported functions to promote crop growth, such as C, N and P cyclings, xenobiotic degradation, and synthesis of bioactive compounds. Pearson's correlation analyses indicated that the quantitative microbiota of the earthworm manure were clustered in the same direction as N, and conductivity, salinity, and water content were essential to control the microbiota of animal manures.Metal pollution in drinking water source has been under scrutiny as it seriously affects human health. This work examined 12 dissolved metals in the surface and overlying water of the Xiangjiang River, an important drinking water source in southern China, and characterized their distribution, identified their possible sources, assessed their toxicity load, and determined their potential ecological and health risk. No significant difference was found in the metal concentration between surface and overlying water. The average metal concentration fell in the order of Mg > Mn > Ba > Fe > Zn > As > Sb > Ni > Cd > V > Cr > Co, and all was lower than the safety threshold in the drinking water guideline of China. Anthropogenic activities were found to be the main source of metals from correlation analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), and cluster analysis (CA). According to the total heavy metal toxicity load (HMTL), 98.20%, 71.54%, 68.88%, and 7.97% of As, Cd, Sb, and Mn should be removed from the surface water to ensure safety. click here Most water samples from the surveyed area were found to have high ecological risk as was measured by the ecological risk index (RI). Health risk assessment showed that children are more susceptible than adults to the non-carcinogenic risk of dissolved metals, and the potential carcinogenic risk (CR) of As and Cd should be addressed. The results provide guidance for controlling the metal pollution of the Xiangjiang River and improving its quality as a drinking water source. The localization of partial discharge (PD) sources is of importance for the monitoring and maintenance of power transformers. Time difference of arrival (TDoA) based methods are widely adopted in the literature for the localization of PDs. Recently, time reversal (TR) was suggested as an efficient means to locate PD sources. As opposed to TDoA, which needs at least 4 sensors, TR is able to locate PD sources in power transformers with only one sensor. Moreover, it needs neither line-of-sight wave propagation from the PD sources to the sensor nor time synchronization. In this study, we present for the first time an experimental demonstration of the ability of the TR process to locate PD sources. A typical TR process includes three steps (1) recording the PD-emitted field by a sensor, (2) time reversing and back injecting the signal into the medium, (3) using a proper criterion to obtain the focusing point which corresponds to the location of the PD source. In this work, we present a laboratory setup in which steps one and two are performed experimentally, both in the frequency and in the time domain. The obtained peak electric field value is used as a criterion in the third step. It is found that the accuracy of the proposed method is better than 2.5 cm in a transformer tank model with dimensions 73 × 73 × 103 cm3. The effects of the presence of scatterers such as transformer windings are also investigated experimentally and found not to affect the location accuracy of the method. This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effects of different whole body vibration (WBV) frequencies on concentric and eccentric leg muscle strength, bone turnover and walking endurance after stroke. The study involved eighty-four individuals with chronic stroke (mean age = 59.7 years, SD = 6.5) with mild to moderate motor impairment (Fugl-Meyer Assessment lower limb motor score mean = 24.0, SD = 3.5) randomly assigned to either a 20 Hz or 30 Hz WBV intervention program. Both programs involved 3 training sessions per week for 8 weeks. Isokinetic knee concentric and eccentric extension strength, serum level of cross-linked N-telopeptides of type I collagen (NTx), and walking endurance (6-min walk test; 6MWT) were assessed at baseline and post-intervention. An intention-to-treat analysis revealed a significant time effect for all muscle strength outcomes and NTx, but not for 6MWT. The time-by-group interaction was only significant for the paretic eccentric knee extensor work, with a medium effect size (0.44; 95% CI 0.01, 0.87). Both WBV protocols were effective in improving leg muscle strength and reducing bone resorption. Comparatively greater improvement in paretic eccentric leg strength was observed for the 30 Hz protocol.Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and the abnormal differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells. An increasing number of researches have demonstrated that microRNAs play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes. Herein, we aimed to identify novel potential microRNAs bound up with the diagnosis and prognosis of MDS. MiRNA microarray analysis was used to screen deregulated microRNAs in the bone marrow of MDS patients. qRT-PCR was employed to confirm the microarray results. All members of miR-320 family (miR-320a, miR-320b, miR-320c, miR-320d, and miR-320e) were significantly increased in MDS patients compared to normal control. Although we found no correlation between miR-320 family and most clinical characteristics, high miR-320c and miR-320d expression seemed to be associated with high numbers of bone marrow (BM) blasts and worse karyotype. High expression of all the members of the miR-320 family seemed to be associated with a high prognostic score based on International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS).
