Qualitative data showed PWUD shared health-related information with each other but preferred word of mouth rather than text messages. Participants used smartphones regularly and suggested using Internet advertising for prevention services. Participants expressed enthusiasm for ED-based peer mHealth referral platform to prevention services, as well as referring their peers to proposed services, with monetary incentives.

ED-based peer referral intervention to HIV/HCV testing and naloxone training was viewed favorably by PWUD. Frequent smartphone use among PWUD suggests that the medium could be a promising mode for peer referral.

Although some existing indices quantified the mixture strength of state gun laws, methodological supports are still lacking. The study aimed to build a new state gun law strength (GLS) index, evaluate the contribution of all state gun laws to the new index, and assess the association between the new index and firearm homicide mortality.

This is a population-based ecological study.

We condensed 134 state gun laws into a mixture GLS index at the state level to quantify each state's overall GLS by using the weighted quantile sum regression in each year from 1999 to 2018. The weights of state gun laws in the GLS index revealed their influence on GLS. The model also estimated the association between the GLS index and state-level firearm homicide mortality.

From 1999 to 2018, 15 of 134 (11.19%) state gun laws significantly contributed to the GLS index for firearm homicide every year, five of which related to the minimum age of possessing firearms. The most influential gun law was "no possession of handguns until age 21." The GLS index was significantly and negatively associated with firearm homicide mortality; however, the association gradually diminished over time.

The GLS index has methodological support and can take different gun violence outcomes into account. Future research can adopt the GLS index to conduct additional gun violence research or apply the modeling approach to build new GLS indexes for other gun violence outcomes.

Ligation of the DSBs by end joining (EJ) pathways can restore the broken chromosome, but the repair junctions can have insertion/deletion (indel) mutations. The indel patterns resulting from DSB EJ are likely defined by the initial structure of the DNA ends, how the ends are processed and synapsed prior to ligation, and the factors that mediate the ligation step. In this review, we describe key factors that influence these steps of DSB EJ in mammalian cells, which is significant both for understanding mutagenesis resulting from clastogenic cancer therapeutics, and for developing approaches to manipulating gene editing outcomes.

The Rydel Seiffer tuning fork (RSTF) can be easily applied to evaluate deficits of vibration perception. Standard normative data as stated in textbooks (6/8-thresholds among the "elderly") is not suitable for an informed decision-making process.

To reevaluate the range of vibration detection thresholds (VDT) based on assessments in healthy Caucasians stratified for age and gender using the RSTF and on a short-review of literature on normative data on PubMed.

Monocentric, prospective assessment of VDT at the dorsal 1st metatarsophalangeal joint of both sides in 77 healthy volunteers. Participants were grouped according to age 20-39 years (group I, n=24), 40-59 years (group II, n=29), 60-79 years (group III, n=24). Data was stratified for gender. Means were compared via Mann-Whitney U-test; correlations were rated via Pearson correlation coefficient. A short-review of literature was performed on PubMed.

Aging related to declined vibration perception (r=-0.446, p<0.001). Women aged 60 years and older e propose to consider the limits as reported by Hilz et al. 1998. Furthermore, women at age 60+years presenting with borderline thresholds should be considered for further diagnostic workup.

The current data and literature underline, that higher VDT-limits stratified for age and gender should be considered in a clinical setting. Until further validation within larger samples, we propose to consider the limits as reported by Hilz et al. 1998. Furthermore, women at age 60 + years presenting with borderline thresholds should be considered for further diagnostic workup.Transcription by RNA polymerase II (pol II) is regulated by kinases. In recent years, many selective and potent inhibitors of pol II transcription-associated kinases have been developed, and these molecules have advanced understanding of kinase function in mammalian cells. Here, we focus on chemical inhibitors of the transcription-associated kinases CDK7, CDK8, CDK9, CDK12, CDK13, and CDK19. We provide a brief overview of the function of these kinases and common activation mechanisms. We then highlight the advantages of kinase inhibitors compared with other basic research methods, and describe the caveats associated with non-selective compounds (e.g. flavopiridol). We conclude with strategies and recommendations for implementation of chemical inhibitors for experimental analysis of transcription-associated kinases.

In Germany, oral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) was licensed in 2016. Health insurances have been covering the costs since 09/2019. This study compares the sociodemographic profiles of PrEP users before and after PrEP re-imbursement.

Participants were recruited in a cross-sectoral sexual health centre in Germany. baseline data were compared for 139 vs 138 individuals starting PrEP from 10/2017-12/2018 (pre-reimbursement cohort) and 09/2019-3/2020; respectively. The pre-reimbursement cohort was further analysed with respect to sexual behaviour and incident sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

There were no significant differences in the sociodemographic characteristics between the two cohorts. Almost all PrEP users were men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM). Before reimbursement, fewer individuals used PrEP on a daily base, and more had used PrEP prior to enrolment. During follow-up (pre-reimbursement cohort), the number of sexual and condomless intercourse partners increased, so did the proportion engaging in Chemsex. Incidences of infections with C.trachomatis, N.gonorrhoeae, M.genitalium, and T.pallidum were 45.2; 36.8; 30.1; and 9.2, respectively, per 100 person-years.

The goal to make PrEP available to a broader range of people with the covering of costs was only partially reached. Medically supervised use is important to detect and treat STIs.

This study aimed to investigate the thoughts of preschool children and their mothers about COVID-19.

This qualitative study was descriptive phenomenology design. Data were collected and analyzed through individual interviews from 26 people (13 mothers and 13 children) using a Personal Information Form and an Interview Form. After the thematic analysis, four main themes were created for the children and their mothers.

The main themes created for mothers and children were "Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic process, Protection, Family relations, Perspective of healthcare staff". The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the physical, psycho-social, and economic health, spirituality and family relationships of mothers. It became evident that children knew the terms related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Children dreamt of activities they missed and stated that at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, they would go to the park, the pool, shopping centers, to school, and on vacation. Most of the mothers and children followed the rules of protection. In addition, mothers and children stated that their perspectives on healthcarestaff changed positively after the pandemic started.

Considering that COVID-19 affects individuals bio-psycho-socially, it is crucial for health professionals to know the thoughts of individuals, families and children about COVID-19 to increase their awareness of potential problems.

Different from discrete delays and time-dependent delays which can be well estimated over time, the information of state-dependent delays is usually hard to be estimated, especially when states are unknown or unmeasurable. To guarantee the stability of state-dependent delayed systems in the framework of finite time, a Razumikhin-type inequality is used, following which estimations on the settling time and the region of attraction are proposed. Moreover, the relationship between the variation speed of state-dependent delays and the size of the region of attraction is proposed. Then as an application of the theoretical result, finite-time stabilization is studied for a set of nonlinear coupled neural networks involving state-dependent transmission delay, where the design of memoryless finite-time controllers is addressed. Two numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is among the most prevalent lymphomas worldwide. PAX5 has a great value in separating this entity from other T cell lymphoma; however, it is weakly expressed in neoplastic cells. Polyclonal PAX8 was positive in a variety of lymphoid neoplasms in several previous studies and the staining paralleled that of PAX5 but monoclonal PAX8 was negative in the same neoplasms. The aim of this study was to compare immunohistochemical patterns of monoclonal PAX8 with PAX5 in Classical and NLPHL samples.

This retrospective study was conducted on 89 formalin-fixed paraffin embedded blocks from HL patients (69 Classical and 20 NLPHL) admitted to Imam Khomeini and Dr. Shariati hospitals, Tehran, Iran during 2016-2020. Diagnoses were confirmed by reviewing previous immunohistochemistry (IHC) studies, including PAX5. All samples were stained for PAX8 (clone MRQ-50). Expression intensity scoring was made for both antibodies in neoplastic and background cells based on nuclear staining percentage.

PAX8 this marker can be utilized as a valuable alternative for PAX5 in differentiating HL from other T cell lymphoma in challenging cases. In this work, a novel silver ion (Ag+)-regulated ratiometric fluorescence method for the effective and sensitive determination of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was established based on carbon dots (CDs) and o-phenylenediamine (OPD). OPD can be oxidized by Ag+ to generate fluorescent 2, 3-diaminophenazine (DAP). Thus, based on inner-filter effect (IFE) or/and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between CDs and DAP, the CDs-Ag+-OPD system can generate dual-emission at 454 nm and 570 nm respectively when excited at 360 nm. The introduction of ascorbic acid (AA) can react with Ag+ to produce dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA), which inhibits the generation of DAP, resulting in the fluorescence decrease at 570 nm and fluorescence recovery of CDs at 454 nm. Meanwhile, DHAA can react with OPD to generate quoxaline (QX), which emits strong blue fluorescence at 440 nm, further inhibiting the IFE or/and FRET between CDs and DAP. An obvious ratiometric fluorescence response was observed with the increase of the concentration of AA introduced.
